How long does it take you to get ready in the mornings?

Don't have any kids to get ready, just myself. I find that it's taking me around 50 minutes and I'd like to reduce it. I get up, have a quick breakfast, then shower (wash my hair pretty much every day because it's short and gets greasy easily) shave my legs every day, etc.
Then towel dry my hair, don't put any make up on but put SPF on, then checking I've got everything and somehow that always takes me at least 50 minutes. I don't know why.
Interested to hear how long it takes others.

About 20 minutes- shower, wash hair every day, only use moisturiser on face, dry hair roughly then get dressed, lipstick on and out. Don’t eat breakfast before I leave for work though so that cuts time

TammyJones · 12/07/2023 07:11

I think 50 mins is good.
Takes me about an hour.
I don't wash hair or shave legs.

Too much rushing around first thing can set you up for a stressful day

Pumpkinbumkin200 · 12/07/2023 07:13

10 mins max. But I don't was my hair in the morning I do that in the evenings and do above kids so need to be quick!

Pumpkinbumkin200 · 12/07/2023 07:13

Sorry for the typos 🤦🏼‍♀️ *do have kids

Worldgonecrazy · 12/07/2023 07:14

20 minutes- shower, make up and hair. I don’t wash my hair every day though - that would add 5 minutes as I always dry naturally as I have curly hair. Shaving legs would add another 2 minutes.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 12/07/2023 07:16

Not very long once I have stopped scrolling through mumsnet with coffee.

Takes me very little time to get ready of a morning. I do not wash my hair every day so a quick body shower, hair done and makeup done in under ten mins and then just throw on an outfit. I tan and shave at weekends and very fair haired so only need to shave once a week and my nails get done every few weeks so it really is just shower/face/hair and go. I do not eat breakfast.

Zola1 · 12/07/2023 07:16

I get up at 5 and leave at 815... but in there I go to the gym. Once I'm back from the gym actually getting myself ready takes 20 min

Zippedydodah · 12/07/2023 07:16

20 -30 minutes maximum, I don’t eat breakfast, just have a coffee , shower, hair wash, little makeup.
I get everything laid out the night before ready to go.

thirtyfivethirtyeight · 12/07/2023 07:16

About 30-40 minutes if I'm focused!
1.Quick shower/wash hair (only shave legs if legs are going to be on display)

  1. Blow dry hair and sometimes curl or straighten it
  2. Light makeup (foundation, mascara, blusher)
  3. Have already decided the night before what I'm going to wear so that's ready and easy to grab

In a real squeeze I've been known to do it in 20 minutes but I wont curl/straighten hair on those days.

Hellomaisie · 12/07/2023 07:16

It takes me about 50mins too. I wish it we’d shorter! I don’t know how to make it less time though. Envious of DH who is about 20 mins.

lalaloopyhead · 12/07/2023 07:17

On a work day about an 45 minutes that includes showering, then breakfast and a scroll on Mumsnet while my hair air dries a bit then upstairs to get dressed, dry hair, makeup etc. Days that I don't wash my hair just involve more scrolling.
Oh also iron whatever wearing and make DD packed lunch ...that comes between shower and breakfast.

Scarfweather · 12/07/2023 07:17

Generally an hour, but could shorten it if needed. I like to not be rushed on a morning - getting ready and putting on makeup is a way of waking myself up and clearing my thoughts.
I have long hair and wash it every other day, but spray down and dry it on the days I don’t.
I do have children but it’s ‘my time’ and I need it!

WandaWonder · 12/07/2023 07:19

If I have clothes ready the night before maybe 5mins or so, shower a few mins, teeth 2 mins and then put deodorant on and brush my hair, put clothes on and job done

I wash y had about 2/3 times a week and let is dry naturally

ChocBananaSmoothie · 12/07/2023 07:20

If you don't count the coffee while I read stuff online, half an hour once I'm up. If you want to cut it back I'd stop shaving your legs every day as the first thing. I probably do that twice a year. haha

TrueScrumptious · 12/07/2023 07:23

Depends what you mean by “get ready”. Generally five to ten minutes -up, quick shower -I don’t wash my hair in the mornings - dressed, brush hair, teeth. No makeup. Only moisturiser.
I work from home, so all I need to do is turn on computer.

Whatwaste · 12/07/2023 07:25

My previous job started at 5am

So up at 4.30am, breakfast, teeth, get dressed, brush hair, use bathroom, 11 minutes. Then out the door no later than 4.41am and a 15 minute walk to work to arrive at 4.56am.

I'd shower the night before and get clothes ready etc.

It took a while to get that efficient though.

finewelshcheese · 12/07/2023 07:25

I've never timed myself but definitely less than half an hour.

If I'm in a rush I shower first then leave my hair wrapped in a towel to eat breakfast.

What do you have for breakfast? Could you prep something like overnight oats to save a bit of time? Do you need to shave your legs daily?!

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 12/07/2023 07:25

About 15 minutes. I don't shower in the mornings though as I work a physical outdoors job so I do that when I get home instead.

I give myself an hour from waking up to leaving the house, but that includes sorting out three cats and a dog, making breakfast, washing up, vacuuming etc.

Regholdsworthswaterbed · 12/07/2023 07:28

About an hour including shower and hair wash and make up. My husband makes me a tea every morning and DCs packed lunches and I eat breakfast at work

Buildingthefuture · 12/07/2023 07:28

30 minutes to include shower, hair, makeup, dressed and out the door. I don’t wash my hair everyday though (try dry shampoo, it’s an actual god send!) or shave my legs (I wax). If I wash my hair, it’s more like 45 mins.

peskypanda · 12/07/2023 07:29

I would think 50mins including breakfast and a shower is pretty good but some suggestions could be:

  • prepping breakfast the night before to take to work (like overnight oats or boiled eggs)
  • using dry shampoo every second morning instead of washing hair
  • getting laser on your legs so you never have to shave (costly but an absolute game changer!)
Namechangenoo · 12/07/2023 07:41

I get up about 6 (because that's when my son gets up) and have to get to school for 8.45

Sometimes I literally clean my teeth, wipe my face with a baby wipe, spray deodorant get dressed and put my hair in a mum bun, then come home to shower and tidy up. Other mornings I will shower and shave and put makeup on, and do all the washing up/tidying up before the school run. It really varies!

babbscrabbs · 12/07/2023 07:43

I think 50 mins for what's essentially a shower and breakfast is really long! Funny that others think it's good.

Shower itself shouldn't take longer than 10 minutes max especially with short hair.

Breakfast - allow 15 minutes

I do everything in about 25-30 minutes including shower, wash and dry hair, get dressed, v quick make up, breakfast and coffee.

gingercat02 · 12/07/2023 07:48

About 40-60 mins. Up at 7:35, shower (hair 3/5), face, teeth. Breakfast with DH and SM catch up. Make up, hair dry and straightener if needed. Out the door between 8:20 and 8:40 depending on where I'm working.
Teen sorts himself.
