Teacher and sports coach swearing at children

If a sports coach swore at children in a threatening manner, ie “fucking little shits” fuck off you are fucking useless, or called one a wanker , what would you expect the sporting body to do about it. If this sports coach was also a teacher what would you expect the school to do about it? Bearing in mind it happened outside of school. Thoughts please

I would re[port them to their governing body, Id also find out what the sport’s team safeguarding policy is. They should be dismissed from coaching immediately!

I agree with this. Definitely.

All the best op

Vincent05 · 09/07/2023 21:18

We reported them to their governing body and some of the evidence including a text message calling a child an obscenity disappeared along with a personal statement from a child describing the coach swearing at her. I guess we need to take it up to Sport England maybe

Is this the Pony Club?

Mrr1970 · 09/07/2023 21:37

There was something about this on local bbc in shropshire. Sounds like something similar, people covering stuff up.

Vincent05 · 09/07/2023 21:40

Yes it’s PC they are notorious for cover ups. Rules don’t apply to them apparently

“fucking little shits”

Sound like descriptive language used about rather than directly to someone.

FYI, its not unusual for teachers to describe children as fucking little shits (or similar). But this would absolutely not be done within earshot of children or parents.

Mrr1970 · 09/07/2023 21:47

Not surprised at all. Have heard so many bad things and rumors about some of the coaches. That one of these is an actual teacher belies belief but explains why they want to protect them.

Vincent05 · 09/07/2023 21:50

The coach lost her temper and screamed at the children you fucking little shits. So said at them not about them

Sounded to me that this coach said this directly to the children?

Vincent05 · 09/07/2023 21:53

Yes directly at the children. It was very frightening. One of the witnesses was under 10 and very panicky because of it

Saw someone showed earlier today that the coach swearing at children at pony club is actually a teacher at a private school in shrewsbury. Why was it taken down? I didn't realise it was ok for private school teachers to behave differently to state school. I was sent a Fbook post that a parent put up with the language used and it was horrendous.

NameChange1019 · 17/11/2023 17:34

Have you complained direct to the organisation she works for? What does their safeguarding policy say? Do they have a coaches code of conduct.

I would contact the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) or contact the Active Partnership in your area. You could try British Equestrian too.

Mrr1970 · 17/11/2023 18:24

Here it is. It was posted by someone from their actual branch who had to remove their child from it. I can totally see why the question whether a school teacher who swears at kids she coaches outside of school should be doing so is asked. Local BBC even covered it. Maybe how a teacher can behave to kids is different between private and normal school teachers.

Private school teachers appear to be able to do what they like. There are lots of incidences of abuse reported and the main thing seems to be to protect the reputation of the school at all costs

Without an independent ombudsman for sport there is no one independent and fair to report things to

Same as the pony club it seems. Nothing to see here. We've seen what happens when this was allowed in gymnastics, rowing, scouts etc....

BB114 · 17/11/2023 19:02

I'm genuinely shocked that a teacher has been allowed to 'get away' with this.
Have the pont club and her school done nothing about this?

Mrr1970 · 17/11/2023 19:39

Just covered there own backsides it seems.

Vincent05 · 17/11/2023 21:25

Can’t see a state school teacher getting away with this

Is there not a standard set of behaviour rules/code of conduct for all teachers set by government? It doesn't seem correct there are different standards depending on the sector.

Vincent05 · 18/11/2023 18:22

I’m not sure there is, there have been several articles in The Guardian recently about private school teachers and abuse

OP posts:
Vincent05 · 18/11/2023 18:24

They do have a coaches code of conduct but it isn’t adhered to, it seems to be the only important thing is to protect the coach. It’s a bit like the British Gymnastics scandal. There are policies they aren’t followed

OP posts:
Vincent05 · 18/11/2023 18:27

Pony club did nothing. To be fair to the school they reported her to the LADO and prevented any contact between the children she’d allegedly bullied and the teacher
