Teacher and sports coach swearing at children

If a sports coach swore at children in a threatening manner, ie “fucking little shits” fuck off you are fucking useless, or called one a wanker , what would you expect the sporting body to do about it. If this sports coach was also a teacher what would you expect the school to do about it? Bearing in mind it happened outside of school. Thoughts please

If an adult screamed at my child that they’re a fucking little shit, and my child felt afraid, I’d report it to the police as the criminal offence of verbal assault. And then I would notify the school / supervising body that I had done so. If I really disliked the adult / thought it was part of an ongoing behaviour involving other children, I’d email the local newspaper “Local parents forced to call police over abusive teacher who screams and
swears at young children”

Fortunately I have never yet met an adult who speaks to children like that.

Kwer I’m guessing you’ve never been to pony club!!!. I know the parents of the child involved, the investigation into the bullying was bizarre with none of the children or the key firsthand witness who wasn’t related to the trainer interviewed. Pony club didn’t see a problem with her swearing at children

@TwoShades1 yes I wouldn’t have an issue at the odd swear word coming out around a child. It was swearing at children in an aggressive manner. It’s to do with the abuse of a position of power

I can't say I'm surprised unfortunately.

Mrr1970 · 24/11/2023 13:07

The pony club seems to breed mini Hitlers who would never be allowed to be in charge of anything else, and wouldn't get away with some of their behaviour in any other walk of life.

That this one is not only a teacher, but that she has got away with this is just wrong.

Jean77 · 25/11/2023 16:39

Yup. The woman should have been thrown out of the Pony Club altogether and certainly sacked from being a teacher.

Mrr1970 · 25/11/2023 19:26

The school really should have sacked her. No question. Seems she is no longer a coach at that pony club branch.

Jean77 · 27/11/2023 12:28

She's no longer on the contacts page of the Wheatland but her name does appear on other pages so who knows.

People who swear at and abuse children should have no place in coaching or teaching. It's just not acceptable.

twistyizzy · 27/11/2023 12:36

Whilst I never condone swearing at kids, riding is a high risk sport and it is sometimes necessary to raise a voice at kids if they aren't listening because if they continue to not listen then the results can be fatal.
DD is at a brilliant riding school and PC with excellent teachers but they do have to raise their voices at times if the kids are bumbling along in their own little worlds.
Being a private school teacher has nothing to do with this issue, the teacher wasn't at school when this happened. It is a PC matter and should be dealt with as such eg the culture of that PC.

Mrr1970 · 27/11/2023 12:47

Totally disagree. Raising your voice is one thing, calling children 'fucking little shits' and 'fucking useless' over a period of time is just not acceptable. To do this in public, at shows in front of the public when you are a teacher really is relevant.

If you are a teacher, there are standards to uphold whether you are in school or not.

That's why I said I don't condone swearing, of course that isn't acceptable. Raising your voice so kids follow your instructions whilst doing a high risk activity is acceptable.
She probably isn't a great teacher no but honestly I don't expect teachers/police/nurses/doctors not to swear outside of their jobs, they are human beings. Obviously what she did wasn't acceptable but I view it as her individual failing and the culture of that PC. To me her day job is irrelevant.

Vincent05 · 27/11/2023 16:17

@twistyizzy raising your voice is perfectly acceptable especially in an outdoor sport. Losing your temper and screaming you’re fucking little shits isn’t, or fuck off you’re fucking useless, I have lots of friends who are teachers and they don’t speak to their own children like this let alone pupils either inside or outside of school

@Vincent05 and that's why I've said that what she did isn't appropriate.

Jean77 · 27/11/2023 19:45

The article talked about children self-harming as well as the teacher swearing at them. This was clearly more than a coach raising their voice.

Mrr1970 · 29/11/2023 11:34

Anyone swearing at children while in a role as coach or teacher should not be in that role. If that person causes a child to self-harm, they should never be allowed to coach or teach children ever again. It really should be that simple.

Jean77 · 29/11/2023 19:27

I agree with you completely on that.
