To think that Mn is wrongly described as a stronghold

Keep seeing mumsnet being described (usually by men) as Prosecco Stormfront, the worst hotbed of sexism and transphobia, full of white, middle aged, middle class right wing women - is this true! 😮

I wouldn’t get your opinions from Twitter, if I were you, OP.

CaroleSinger · 30/06/2023 21:37

Well it's certainly a stronghold for nastiness yes.

SigourneyHoward · 30/06/2023 21:39

What nastiness are you thinking of @CaroleSinger

user6482957 · 30/06/2023 21:39

MN is rather left wing.

Screamingabdabz · 30/06/2023 21:40

I tick a fair few of those boxes I’ll admit!

pinguins · 30/06/2023 21:41

How many MN bashing threads can be started in one evening? 🧐

Saywhatevernow · 30/06/2023 21:42

Mn is so far left that they couldn’t be more wrong. Basically hung for earning above NMW. Earn 50k? You should pay it all on tax to fund everyone else and have nothing. If you earn 100k? Then you should give up your 1st born too.

Lentilweaver · 30/06/2023 21:42

I am not white or right wing. I am GC, though, and yelling transphobia won't make me change my mind. Men can't be mothers. He can dress in a skirt if he wants, but he can't be a mother.

EmmaPaella · 30/06/2023 21:42

What is a Prosecco stormfront? Can I join it?

determinedtomakethiswork · 30/06/2023 21:43

Trad wife? When LTB is one of its most commonly used expressions?

Ikeasucks · 30/06/2023 21:43

Not on Mn much anymore - was when my kids were young. Tbh i think it’s one of the tamest, most vanilla and less unpleasant sites on the internet - especially in comparison to Twitter where these people who slate Mn seem perfectly happy to hang out

I think it’s a reference to women on mumsnet being of the nazi persuasion

I saw the threads this numpty is talking about, and they've got it arse backwards. Mumsnetters were taking the piss out of a bloke doing performative washing up in order to demonstrate his feminine bona fides. Also the fact he put a dish bowl full of clothes in the washer while getting paid as an environmental economist. Also him cosplaying a struggling mum while being presumably very well paid.

Weddingpuzzle · 30/06/2023 21:56

Mumsnet is used heavily (but not exclusively) by mothers and females. It is always going to attract hate because people love putting the boot into and blaming women and mothers. The whole trans/GC is just an excuse to validate their hate - they couldn't give a fuck about trans people or those who hold GC views. It's a dog whistle.

Twitter is a bin fire - the fact they are trying to paint this site as somehow worse and linking fascist language to it is laughable. I am not a MN fan girl at all but if you were going to thematically analyse and count prevalence of inflammatory, divisive language/hate speech quantitatively, Twitter would whip MN arse. The are much darker online forums around and Twitter is one of them.

MN is rather left wing.

Definitely! The Tories and their supporters are regularly bashed. It may be many things but it's far from a right wing bastion.

You can't really describe mumsnet as a stronghold, it quite clearly consists of a massive variety of people.

Also I wouldn't put any store by some random on Twitter who thinks the man on ITV with long hair in a dress is a woman just because he says he is. You follow that to its conclusion and you end up with school kids believing they're cats. And you can bet that same person on Twitter will have been decrying Rachel Dolezal and won't support her 'right' to identify as what she pleases. There's never any logic in their magical thinking. Just as there isn't any truth in the ideal that knowing biological truth is transphobic.

Bromptotoo · 30/06/2023 22:01

What's shocked me is the prevalence of Gender Critical Feminists/TERFs with the accompanying lack of understanding ot trans issues.

Are these people in the UK or is it an American thing?

These people? You mean people with a grip on reality and human biology? Those people? 🙄

Weddingpuzzle · 30/06/2023 22:05

What, in the understanding of trans issues, is lacking exactly? What are these 'trans issues' and what are people missing?

Bromptotoo · 30/06/2023 22:06

OK, but where in the world/what nationality are you?

RoseslnTheHospital · 30/06/2023 22:08

Of course it's not true. And no, posters are not all based in the US.

Certain types of men get very very aerated about women being allowed to freely associate and talk as and how they like. Reddit and Twitter are cesspits compared to the civil and interesting conversations that often happen here. Don't see little Owen Jones complaining about them.

The "Marissa" commentator has completely got the points being made about the ITV interviewee utterly arse about face. Almost as if they hadn't actually read any of the posts and were jumping to sexist conclusions.

itsmylife7 · 30/06/2023 22:10

I find it very strange these people love to talk about the evil Women of mumsnet but never mention that "fruit farm place "
That place is 👺

Lack of understanding of trans issues

Tell me more. I'm open to being educated about why understanding there are only two sexes; men and women, and in some areas of life that matters is bigoted.

I love the way the TRA's misrepresent the argument. People objected to the person talking about the COL crisis because they were male and described themselves as a mother, not because they were trans. A mother is a female parent, men cannot be mothers.

Why are you confused?

JayAlfredPrufrock · 30/06/2023 22:12

I tick most of those boxes and @Bromptotoo where are you?
