50th-Glastonbury, USA road trip or Hawaii?

I’m 45 but planning now šŸ˜…

Which would you choose out of the three?
Our daughter will be with us and will be 10/11 by then.

Glastonbury: Never been before, always wanted to go, have been to many other festivals, adore music. We’d combine this with a trip to Europe somewhere-one of the lakes in Italy maybe or Iceland.

USA-California, L.A fly drive-never been before, only New York. Would love to have adventures, road tripping and visit where they filmed E.T šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜‚

Hawaii: Dh surfs, we’ve always wanted to go-extended trip-3 plus weeks, total chill in a quieter area, swimming and surfing.

I have zero money for any of this šŸ˜‚but plan on saving…which would you choose out of these three?

And what would be your ultimate 50th celebration?

Could I easily combine the LA road trip
with Hawaii? How much time would we need to take in total to really enjoy it all?

Mine would be China and Hong Kong

UpdownUpdownAltogetherNow · 26/06/2023 18:54

Road trip! Love LA and the surrounding area. Plenty of surfing and lovely relaxing places to be found in the beach cities.

RosaSkye · 26/06/2023 18:55

Totally agree with the first answer on here- Hawaii via California. Option A would be a blast but not on the same level, I think that’s something you could do another year

SmartHome · 26/06/2023 18:55

Ive been to all 3 and I'd choose Hawaii like a shot! Island hop and don't miss Maui.

RosaSkye · 26/06/2023 18:56

And I think mine would probably be either Borneo or possibly a very luxurious amalfi coast trip

SmartHome · 26/06/2023 18:57

Could easily do a week in California before or after if you're doing 2 weeks as well.

SmartHome · 26/06/2023 18:58

3 weeks I mean

whoruntheworldgirls · 26/06/2023 18:59

Hawaii, it's amazing!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 26/06/2023 19:00

Hawaii. She'll have plenty of opportunity to get shitfaced in a field and have somebody piss over her tent as a teenager - but to travel to Hawaii? That's far less likely.

Chardonnay73 · 26/06/2023 19:02

I’m literally packing for LA for my 50th! LA, Vegas, San Francisco and the mountains near LA. It’s a once in a lifetime thing as all our other family holidays are fly and flop affairs. Which I think Hawaii would be ? Even if you island hopped? Glastonbury not my thing so wouldn’t even consider that tbh.

MagpiePi · 26/06/2023 19:02

I’d go to Hawaii, you and your daughter could learn to surf!

Road trips always sound good but you need to plan realistically so you’re not spending 80% of your time driving. Eg. A 4 hour trip according to Google maps will actually take all day once you’ve factored in packing up, food and toilet breaks, stopping for supplies and setting up at your destination.

I’d be too scared of getting shot by a random gun carrier to go to the USA. (Highly irrational I know!)

MissConductUS · 26/06/2023 19:03

A week in CA, then two in Hawaii. Skip San Francisco, it's pretty dire these days.

Another vote for Hawaiian island hopping.

duallie · 26/06/2023 19:04

Hawaii would be mine but biased as I lived there! Have also road tripped along the west coast which was also amazing. It may come down to budget and how much you can save. Don't underestimate how expensive Hawaii is. Everything from accommodation to car hire to food, and that's even before you do any excursions. West coast road trip would be much more affordable and there are amazing places to visit whether it's wineries, national parks, river rafting, etc.

fourlambbhunas · 26/06/2023 19:10

I would vote Hawaii. The idea of a road trip sounds awful to me though I hate being stuck in a hot cramped car 🤣

livingonpurpose · 26/06/2023 19:12

I did a 3 week trip combining Hawaii (Kauai) and Southern California (San Diego and LA). Flew in to SD, spent a bit of time there, drove up to LA and flew to Kauai for just over a week, then back to LA to spend a bit of time there, before heading home. Was an amazing trip, and definitely recommend it for a 50th trip of a lifetime. My ds was 6.5 at the time and he loved it, so it would be perfect with a 10/11 yo.

Why would it be hot and cramped? šŸ¤”

salamanderdinosaur · 26/06/2023 19:16

I’ve done Hawaii via California. As others have suggested I would recommend that!

OohThatCat · 26/06/2023 19:24

I just spent my 40th with three weeks in Hawaii - it was amazing! Feel free to PM me with any tips or travel suggestions šŸ˜€

For my 50th I’d love to go all out luxe at a Four Seasons in Bali!

SunshinyDay1 · 26/06/2023 19:25

@livingonpurpose what did your ds particularly love about it..

lionsleepstonight · 26/06/2023 19:27

100% Hawaii.

Glastonbury is no place for a 10/11 year old. Unless you want them to grow up very quickly or be stuck in the family areas.
