To think that if you pay for a paper bag in a shop it should be unbranded?

Given how much money shops charge for a paper bag when you buy things from shops?

QueenoftheNimbleFlyingCat · 23/06/2023 07:40

Why?

Ginmonkeyagain · 23/06/2023 07:41

Huh? What difference does it make if the bag has a logo on it?

Take your bags if it bothers you. I always take a couple of cloth bags with me for any shopping expedition.

mondaytosunday · 23/06/2023 07:42

No. They want to advertise their shop. Plastic bags you pay for are branded too. It's not like your paying that much for the bag.

BoohooWoohoo · 23/06/2023 07:42

Aren't paper bags free in England Eg Primark ?

Come on, let’s have your reasons whilst I’m warming up my, “batshit” response…

heldinadream · 23/06/2023 07:45

Everything you buy is branded though, from cornflakes to televisions. Not sure why paper

heldinadream · 23/06/2023 07:45

Oops. Oh well. No.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 23/06/2023 07:45

You shouldn't be charged for a paper bag.

GulesMeansRed · 23/06/2023 07:46

All bags are charged for in Scotland. Even the paper ones from Primark or McDonald's. All have the shop's logo on.

If you don't want to pay, bring your own.

The fact that Primark gives customers bags for free, does not mean that all companies are required to do the same...

ODFODeary · 23/06/2023 07:48

How does that work @GulesMeansRed ? here McDonald's automatically put it in a paper bag, they don't ask you

RedVanYellowVan · 23/06/2023 07:48

If companies want me to do their advertising for them they need to pay me. For that reason I always take my own fabric bags with me.

The same with clothes, I would never wear anything with the brand or logo emblazoned on it. Labels should be on the inside.

Peimark giving away paper bags isn't a universal indicator of shop policy 😂

Maybe the IOP inst even in England

Mercurial123 · 23/06/2023 07:50

Just bring your own bags if you object.

cuckyplunt · 23/06/2023 07:53

ABSOLUTELY!
This is absolutely the hill I will die on!

WHO’S WITH ME?

ThinWomansBrain · 23/06/2023 07:53

I have no recollection of being charged for a paper bag, only plastic.
Rarely buy bags, nearly always have bags of my own with me - although sometimes it's nice to have an upmarket shopping bag - I do try and resist the urge when offered one though.

the point of charging for bags is to reduce one off use bags because of the resources expended in producing them - take your own with you.

cuckyplunt · 23/06/2023 07:55

Just be a dickhead and ostentatiously turn the bag inside out, in the shop, before you use it. If you can hold up a queue all the better!
That’ll larn’em!

ODFODeary · 23/06/2023 07:48

They ask you if you want a bag - at the drive through obviously you do - and they charge you an extra 5p.

HerVagestyTheQueef · 23/06/2023 07:57

As a lowly shop assistant in 1989 a man told me there shouldn't be shop branding on the plastic bag I'd given him. Why should he wander around giving us free advertising? The bags were fucking FREE then. And I had less than zero influence in the branch I worked in, let alone on the policies of the big chain-store company as a whole. Idiot.

Paying for a branded bag? Well, it's a choice isn't it? You don't have to buy anything you don't want to.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/06/2023 07:58

I bought my DD a pair of branded jeans and bought the branded paper bag because I knew she'd rather stroll about with this than put them in one of my shopping bags .

Maybe I'm old and shallow but I miss the days when shopping meant coming home with shop brand bags

So in answer to your question, ...no!

BarbaraofSeville · 23/06/2023 08:00

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 23/06/2023 07:45

You shouldn't be charged for a paper bag.

Yes you should. Paper production uses a lot of materials, even if recycled and energy, chemicals and water and free bags means that people don't value them or reuse them, so leads to a lot of wasted resources.

People should be taking their own reusable bags when they go shopping if they don't want to pay for new ones from the shop, whether or not they are branded.

NoSquirrels · 23/06/2023 08:01

Why?

Boots charged me a fortune for a paper bag which ripped straight away. Also Morrisons

Ardiaei · 23/06/2023 08:03

Why would you even think about this? A paper bag is a paper bag.

LlynTegid · 23/06/2023 08:05

Bring your own bag if it concerns you. If you shop at Primark your lack of taste should be advertised.
