Supermarket delivery early Sunday AM

Perry13579 · 18/06/2023 08:06

My neighbours get their groceries delivered between 7am and 8am on Sunday mornings. It's a terraced street with narrow houses so effectively the van is parked right under my window (which of course last night was open due to the heat). Ten minute of noisy shuffling crates around wakes the whole house up every time and it royally pisses me off. AIBU?

Getting groceries delivered is just a part of modern life. Use ear plugs.

YABU

Well it’s a bugger, but I would get up, make a cup of tea and some toast and take it back to bed, by which time the van will have gone. Better still get someone else to make the tea and toast.

OrwellianTimes · 18/06/2023 08:51

Get a grip.

Mylobsterteapot · 18/06/2023 08:52

For me, it’s either that sort of time at the weekend, or 8pm during the week. It’s 10 minutes, at a time when lots of people are awake. YAB a bit U.

Promdressproblem · 18/06/2023 08:52

Lol my neighbours delivery is here right now , under my window . Every Sunday morning altho it did used to be earlier. Its sooooo annoying especially when tesco and iceland is on my street. Tesco doors are a 2 min walk and the neighbour drives !!
Why sooooo early ?!

cocksstrideintheevening · 18/06/2023 08:53

Yabu

Weal · 18/06/2023 08:53

YANBU to be annoyed but it is just life so it’s one of those things I’d be quietly annoyed about.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 18/06/2023 08:54

Ask them if there’s any chance they can change their delivery time. They might not realise it’s disturbing you. We are up early with the kids so we’re booking a deliver early on a Saturday morning. Our neighbours have older kids so weren’t up at the crack of dawn. They asked if we wouldn’t mind shifting the delivery a bit later as the van noises would always wake them up. I hadn’t realised how noisy it was because I was already awake so not as disturbing.

TenTenby · 18/06/2023 08:55

YANBU OP. It's antisocial and selfish. I wouldn't want a neighbour to do that to me, so I wouldn't do it to a neighbour. Other slots are available!

heldinadream · 18/06/2023 08:55

Cheaper delivery slots and good time to guarantee that recipient will be at home.

I agree. We quite often get an early slot, but I wouldn't if someone asked me not to. We also sometimes go for the very last slot of the day (9-10pm), but again if that specifically bothered someone I wouldn't.

I know it's not the MN way to just talk to someone rather than seethe, but it might work!

WeightInLine · 18/06/2023 08:57

YABU. Anti-social hours are 10pm to 7am. Outside that people just have to get on with their lives.

And Sunday isn’t really a thing for lots of people who work shifts etc.

The absolute audacity of asking someone to change their delivery time, what even is that?!

Delivery slots first thing in the morning and slightly cheaper than later times. For example, if I book a Saver Slot on Sainsbury’s for any time between 6am-10am it’ll cost £1. If I move the time to anywhere between 8am-12am, it costs £3.

I never book for an early time because I rather take the shopping in when my whole household is awake but you can’t really ask them to change the delivery time. You have no clue if they have plans later on in the morning or what!

I say this as someone who lives in a block of flats which has 6 floors. People are bound to do shit you don’t agree with. I don’t think they’re doing anything wrong so YABU

YABU! Jeez 🙄

HunterHearstHelmsley · 18/06/2023 09:02

I hate it when my neighbour gets deliveries during the day. The driver always blocks the drive (tbf, he has to. If he didn't, he'd have to park opposite and block the street). I'm in and out all day and it drives me nuts! I'd much prefer she ordered it early at the weekend instead, or in the evening.

MoserRothOrangeandAlmond · 18/06/2023 09:03

@WeightInLine I agree. A lot of people work shifts so your 'annoyance' on a Sunday is my 'annoyance' on a Tuesday morning as I've been at work all weekend.
Or when everyone is cutting their grass and I'm trying to sleep for night shift.
It's part in parcel of living next to people.
It's 10mins on a Sunday morning for people getting FOOD delivered.

Diddykong · 18/06/2023 09:06

20 years ago it'd have been the milkman in a noisy electric cart.

FredaFox · 18/06/2023 09:07

YABU don't live on a terraced street if you don't want noise
Your neighbours could be shift workers, or the time suits them, they could be going out for the day once it's put away.

I live in a city centre so expect noise, at times I hear groups of drunk people shouting and laughing with each other, I ignore it. Last night at 9pm a group of kids were playing and squealing outside the restaurant opposite for 20 minutes while their parents chatted and ignored them, that squealing was more annoying and louder than any drunk person I usually hear, did I do anything? No I live on a street where noise is expected, it's communal living. Want silence, move to a village though you'd probably then moan about the wildlife being noisy at 5am

cantcopenow · 18/06/2023 09:10

It’s extremely annoying but I think it’s just part of modern life. We live in a 24/7 world.

I’d still argue that mowing the lawn at that time is unreasonable though!

Peterpauls · 18/06/2023 09:14

I would be annoyed by this, even more so before we had kids. I could sleep in till 9/10am and bloody loved it.

Since having kids I don’t really get to sleep in but if it was that rare occasion the kids have gone past 7am and everyone’s still asleep I would be fuming.

Sleep is very precious to me so I get where you’re coming from. I wouldn’t find it nice for a neighbour to cut grass at 7am for 15mins either

towriteyoumustlive · 18/06/2023 09:24

Only 7am?

There are some rather loud and inconsiderate birds that chirp really loudly at around 4.30am in the bush outside my window. I've tried having a word but to no avail, so I just resorted to earplugs.

YABU. It's a good time to get shopping delivered. Get up and about early on a weekend!

Mushroo · 18/06/2023 09:28

I would be annoyed as well - I love a lie in! If you’re friendly with them you could politely ask if they could shift it later, but I they’re well within their rights to refuse.

Theyre not being unreasonable but it would really put a dampener on my week!

Maybe get ear plugs for a Saturday night?

red78hot · 18/06/2023 09:30

Milkmen used to wake us up but no one complained ffs.
I get my shopping delivered between 7 and 9 on a Saturday, this week due to an event I had it was delivered this morning at 8am, I couldn't give two hoots what the neighbours think after their 3 and 4 year old were running around the house and garden screaming and jumping til gone 11pm and then their parents listing to Asian music in the bedroom til after midnight. I think supermarket delivery is small fry compared to that.

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 18/06/2023 09:31

Slots that early are usually cheaper.
