Supermarket delivery early Sunday AM

Perry13579 · 18/06/2023 08:06

My neighbours get their groceries delivered between 7am and 8am on Sunday mornings. It's a terraced street with narrow houses so effectively the van is parked right under my window (which of course last night was open due to the heat). Ten minute of noisy shuffling crates around wakes the whole house up every time and it royally pisses me off. AIBU?

I'd ask them v politely if they could ask the delivery driver to park somewhere else.

Theoldgreygoose · 18/06/2023 09:35

Honestly, talk about first world problems!! Get over yourself.

missv556 · 18/06/2023 09:37

YANBU to be annoyed by the noise I guess. But it would be unreasonable to say anything about it or even have the nerve to ask them to change the slot tbh. You don't know the reasons for picking it. I get my shopping delivered between 7 and 8am because its one of the cheapest slots and it's at a time that my DS isn't napping so I can get it in and packed away. I'm not going to inconvenience myself just in case a couple minutes of noise might upset the neighbours. Can't really dictate to people what they do and when they do it

MrsCarson · 18/06/2023 09:42

Once in a while is ok, but week after week, I'd be annoyed too. Although after years and years of babies toddlers and general kid stuff, my lie in never gets past 8 as I'm wide awake.

Mumofsend · 18/06/2023 09:50

Mine comes 8am on a Sunday and I wouldn't move it if asked. It takes about 4 minutes.

FlowerTink · 18/06/2023 09:51

Mine used to come early on a weekend so it was in and done before I was out for the day, and the slots were cheaper.

tiredmama23 · 18/06/2023 10:22

I think YABU but I have a toddler who gets up at 6am every morning without fail anyway so I'm probably just bitter that I don't get to lie in on Sundays anymore 😂

He is hardly going to park up the street and carry all the groceries to the neighbour just to appease the OP! If you live in a terrace house you have to accept next doors deliveries might affect you in some way.

LillyoftheMountain · 18/06/2023 11:03

You really shouldn’t have moved into a terraced house if you’re this sort of person. Your poor neighbours.

Vintagejazzing · 18/06/2023 11:08

YANBU, I wouldn't dream of doing that to my neighbours and I don't know anyone who would get shopping delivered at that time. But judging by some of the posts on here for some people it's all about what's convenient for them and to hell with everyone else.
I am quite sure they'd be the first ones complaining if it was happening to them.

ChickenSoupAndLokshen · 18/06/2023 11:17

The driver could park the other side of the person receiving deliveries. Perhaps the other owner won’t mind.

WonderingWanda · 18/06/2023 11:17

Mine came at 7 this morning. I don't feel too bad because my neighbours milkman comes at 1 am and wakes me up. Terraced streets are ways noisy anyway because the sound echoes.

towriteyoumustlive · 18/06/2023 09:24

Only 7am?

There are some rather loud and inconsiderate birds that chirp really loudly at around 4.30am in the bush outside my window. I've tried having a word but to no avail, so I just resorted to earplugs.

YABU. It's a good time to get shopping delivered. Get up and about early on a weekend!

😂😂

MintsPi · 18/06/2023 11:23

Yanbu to be annoyed but you won't get any sympathy here as everyone seems to get up at the crack of dawn. God forbid anyone wants a lie in on one of the days they don't have to get up early.

I work weekends and do the school run during the week so live for bank holidays/weekends off. You can guarantee though that someone will be mowing their lawn at 8am to wake me up on the first Sunday I've had off in months though!

WetBandits · 18/06/2023 11:23

“AIBU to move into a terraced house and then be aghast when my neighbours are going about their normal lives?”

Yep. Perhaps your neighbours like an early morning delivery on a Sunday so they can get out and enjoy the day instead of lounging around in bed 😉

Sewingdufus · 18/06/2023 11:29

7am on a Sunday is too early for me. Maybe a quiet word to ask them if they could move it later? Or can you park where the delivery van does, so that it doesn’t disturb you in the same way?

zingally · 18/06/2023 11:55

Cost of living in the modern world I'm afraid. YABU.

IamnotSethRogan · 18/06/2023 11:55

My neighbours do this on a Saturday and it is very loud and annoying. They have younger kids then us so are awake and we (after years of early mornings) aren't up at the crack of dawn anymore and Saturday is the only day we don't have work/activities meaning we potentially have the chance to sleep a little extra.

However, even though all the crashing and banging is very loud, I imagine if they're out and about at the weekend, it makes sense for them to get it early so they can get on with their weekend so I'm just getting on with it, but I really sympathise with you, it's crazy how loud it is when it's under your window!

Diddykong · 18/06/2023 09:06

20 years ago it'd have been the milkman in a noisy electric cart.

We still have a milkman. He delivers at 6am (though not on a Sunday).

Maloneyb · 18/06/2023 11:58

I understand it’s annoying for you but it’s probably convenient for them.

We’re actually moving because of how annoying and rude the streets bin men are, and the general noisiness of the area. (Not the only reasons but play a good part).

I think this is something you cannot control but you could change your circumstances

ps, I love a lie in. I get the rage. But we are the unreasonable ones in this situ

Murdoch1949 · 19/06/2023 05:23

Ten minutes maximum of delivery noise. Actually less than that as most of the delivery time is not clanging crates, but driver noiselessly carrying crates, them.being unloaded at door etc. You need to lighten up, be a better neighbour and stop finding fault where none exists.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 19/06/2023 05:24

Yabu.

I know it's not the MN way to just talk to someone rather than seethe, but it might work!
The problem is in real life if you let someone know you have a problem like this, they might change it to some other time to keep the peace even if it ends up being a day/time that doesn’t suit them as much or even though they just don’t want to!

EmeraldFox · 19/06/2023 05:38

YABU, 7am is not antisocial hours.
