Would you go to cinema alone?

Sad as it might sound, I seriously have nobody to go with. Not in the sense no-one wants to see or fancies the films I want to see, the fact I have nobody to ask. I have no friends and DH and DP really do not want to come and see Barbie with me. I really don't think I'd have a problem going alone but they're making fun of me wanting to go alone.
I'm comfortable going for a coffee or lunch out alone and wouldn't "interact" while watching a movie anyway so don't see the problem going alone anyway.
Would you go alone?

Yes, I love going on my own. Its a proper treat, I buy the ridiculously expensive ice cream too which I never do if I have the kids with me.

CharlotteRumpling · 17/06/2023 08:36

I guess all the people who see me travelling on my own think 'SAD". Or more likely they are worrying about the CoL or how to lose weight.

Thirty5 · 17/06/2023 08:37

I love going alone to the cinema, it’s joyful bro not be spoken to for a couple of hours 😃

SallyWD · 17/06/2023 08:37

Yes I do and I really don't see what's sad about it. I find it more sad if people are too uncomfortable to do things alone. I often go to the cinema, gigs, lunch alone. I do have friends but like my own company.

TheHandbag · 17/06/2023 08:41

I do and I love it, it's the only time I have to myself without dealing with other people. Enjoy!

Oblomov23 · 17/06/2023 08:42

Yes. Why not?

DappledThings · 17/06/2023 08:44

Yes. And have never thought twice about it.

Hbh17 · 17/06/2023 08:45

Of course - why not? I go alone 90% of the time, to see films that don't interest partner/friends. It's a perfectly standard thing to do.

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 17/06/2023 08:46

I have many times and I often do. Nothing 'sad' about it.

RoseDeWittBukatter · 17/06/2023 08:47

Why is it sad? Of course I would and I have. You're not there to have a conversation with anyone, you're there to watch a film in silence. Why would you need to be accompanied by someone?

Pineappletart7 · 17/06/2023 08:50

Yes I’ve done it loads of times. I’ve even had the whole cinema to myself before when I’ve got at quiet times

BrandyandGinger · 17/06/2023 08:51

I often go to the cinema by myself. I would have gone last night if there was anything I'd fancied. It's very relaxing.

phoenixrosehere · 17/06/2023 08:52

Yes, love when I go to the theatres where they have the couple seats and I can sit there with my snacks and watch a movie alone. Whether you are with someone or not, you’re not really going to be talking to them during the movie.

springtome · 17/06/2023 08:54

I (and my DH), go to the cinema alone all the time. We enjoy differ films and sometimes it's nice to see it on the big screen rather than wait.

We usually go to a quieter showing though and are often the only one in the screen 😂

BarelyLiterate · 17/06/2023 08:55

Yes, of course. I do stuff on my own all the time. It’s quite normal for me because I used to travel a lot for work which meant travelling, staying in hotels, eating in restaurants, going to the cinema etc etc on my own.

Runningonjammiedodgers · 17/06/2023 08:57

Do it! I wanted to see a film post divorce and had no one who wanted to go with me. I took in a couple of cans of g and t, treated my self to an ice cream and had a great time!

TrashPanda · 17/06/2023 08:57

Yeah absolutely, I love the cinema alone. Before Fantastic Beasts came out our local cinema showed the Harry Potter films in order, one a week. DS came to the first 2 and then decided they were too scary so I went to the rest alone. Monday this week I went to see Gods Own Country, which nobody else wanted to see, Cineworld is doing some pride month showings and it's one of my favourite films. 2 hours to myself with popcorn & a massive drink, love it.

Philandbill · 17/06/2023 08:59

I do if DH doesn't want to see the film and friends are busy. It's a great treat, I sneak in a packet of minstrels (best cinema sweet ever ) and buy myself a nice coffee before I go in. Wonderful.

grunttheterrible · 17/06/2023 09:01

Yeah, I always used to when I was young and single. It was fine!

Sarvanga38 · 17/06/2023 09:01

I regularly go to the cinema alone when it's a film that won't really float my husband's boat.

Some friends are mortified at the thought, but I do think that perhaps this kind of thing has different connotations when it's an active and willing choice (as it is for me), as opposed to when people feel that it's that or nothing because no-one would be willing to come with them. I get that it might feel 'sad' then.

It is honestly absolutely fine though. Happy to go with husband if it's something we both want to see, but I am also very happy to go and curl up in our wonderful cinema's big seats with my punnet of grapes LOL. 😆

You won't be alone either, see a good number of folk on their own when you actually look for it.

cartagenagina · 17/06/2023 09:04

Yes I often go to cinema or theatre alone. Also go on holiday alone sometimes. I am just very happy in my own company.

I actually can’t wait to see the Barbie film!!!

willow7612 · 17/06/2023 09:05

Yes, why wouldn't you? I have friends who think it's weird but I often go to the cinema or theatre on my own. It's not really a social activity anyway.

sevenhusbands · 17/06/2023 09:05

Yes, wouldn't think twice about it. I actually prefer it to going with someone else. Enjoy :)

putthatdownsteve · 17/06/2023 09:06

Yes!

I don’t have anyone to go with. It’s absolutely fine. I used to pop into the local pub for a couple of drinks alone too and lunch out. If I didn’t do those things alone, I’d never do them.

Anapana · 17/06/2023 08:04

Course I would and gave! It’s a great pleasure - enjoy it

God it's the ultimate bloody indulgence for me, cinema alone with drink and snacks, bloody heaven!! 😄😄 Sad that I never get the chance to do it!!
