Crater-like wound on my leg turning black - what the hell is this (see pic)

Just as the title suggests! I got bitten last week, have no idea by what but it was itchy and the first day my leg was swollen and quite hard. Well now it’s turned into a small crater-like wound that feels really deep. It looks like a dark brown/black scab on it but I’ve tried lifting it a little and it’s like stuck in my leg, it looks hard but I’m sure it’s not actually a scab. When I tried to lift it (unsuccessfully) the skin around the wound peeled off. I have never had a bite end up like this! Any thoughts on what this is and whether it’s something that’ll heal on its own? Don’t want to bother the GP if it’s nothing!

Excuse the hairy legs and tattoo :D

You need to get that looked at sooner rather than later. Does it feel hot? Do you feel generally unwell?

whoactuallyreallycares · 14/06/2023 23:15

Is it a tick ?

justanothermanicmonday1 · 14/06/2023 23:16

I think that's a tic. You need to go to a&e asap!

Clarich007 · 14/06/2023 23:16

Looks nasty. I think you need some advice.

Bitworriedtbh · 14/06/2023 23:17

Are you sure? I didn’t see a tic or anything when it first started itching!

ermmmm I have got no idea but I would seriously be getting that looked at first thing.

Draw around the perimeter of the skin colour change tonight with a sharpie to monitor spread, photograph as well. Maybe balance a 5p for scale near the crater.

You poor thing. I don't like the look of that wound at all.

endofthelinefinally · 14/06/2023 23:17

I am wondering if it could be a tick. Have you been out in long grass/woodland?

Redraddisho27 · 14/06/2023 23:17

I'd honestly go to A & E you don't want to end up with sepsis....that is not normal at all...

ArgosKettle · 14/06/2023 23:18

Is the discolouration on your skin bruising or a tattoo?

TheChosenTwo · 14/06/2023 23:18

If it’s a tic (and it does look like it might be 🤢) you can buy a tool for removal but that looks like it needs looking at by someone more specialist than me, 2 vodkas and 2 glasses of wine down!

ToBeOrNotToBee · 14/06/2023 23:18

Get to A&E now.

That needs antibiotics now, not tomorrow, now.

Bitworriedtbh · 14/06/2023 23:19

Yes I have been feeling unwell the past two days but I just thought it was the heat. Very tired and feeling like I’ve got a cold coming on

Whatever it is, I think you’ve gone way beyond‘bothering the GP for nothing’ 😆 - that needed looking at urgently some days ago!

NineOfNine · 14/06/2023 23:19

I have no idea what’s going on with that, but it looks nasty.

I’d get that checked out asap.

Hugasauras · 14/06/2023 23:19

I think (hope!) the skin discolouration is a tattoo. Without that it doesn't look as dramatic.

HashBrownandBeans · 14/06/2023 23:19

That’s definitely not a tick but I’d be concerned it’s ulcerating. It runs in my family, all the women have ended up with leg ulcers from random things like a bramble scratch, and I had a bug bite almost turn a few years ago on my calf. Got a lovely scar now!

Ignore. I thought the black was veins and sepsis rather than tattoo.

EatYourVegetables · 14/06/2023 23:19

I can’t see the photo properly but a tick would be very obvious, both now and when it first bit. A bug whose head is in your body but its body, with eight legs, is outside. No crater.

I would get this looked at asap.

TheChosenTwo · 14/06/2023 23:20

Oh wait just saw the mention of a tattoo! If the black marks on your skin are tattoo then just get the tic removal tool and you’ll probably be okay!!

MrTiddlesTheCat · 14/06/2023 23:20

Ticks are like lumps not indentations. Whatever it is you need it checked out.

Bitworriedtbh · 14/06/2023 23:20

It’s actually on a the edge of the tattoo a very lightly shaded bit and the wound is a lot darker!

That looks nasty and worth an immediate medical opinion/ treatment.

I've known wounds get infected and necrotic before and they can be nasty and stubborn to recover.

BlameItOnTheGoose · 14/06/2023 23:21

My DH had a very similar looking thing. We were on holiday in Spain and had to rush around to find an English speaking doctor who would prescribe antibiotics urgently.

Black flesh isn't good..

baffledcoconut · 14/06/2023 23:21

If you’re beginning to not feel well then perhaps yoh should visit A&E sooner rather than later. It doesn’t look great and it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Dotcheck · 14/06/2023 23:21

Omg- get that checked!!
