To think that 5/6 year old little girls don’t need to wear shorts under dresses to “protect their modesty”

Just what the subject like says really. I’d be interested to know other parents thoughts. I’m not a weirdo, this request has been made of my daughters from school and it makes me feel a bit icky.

Skirts and underpants are perfectly ordinary clothes for a female child to wear. If adults can’t handle it, perhaps they should stop normalising the idea that little girls were dresses (while boys wear trousers) or producing such skimpy underwear for girls compared to boys (I personally find it so bloody weird when I see the difference between the underwear for girls and boys in the shops). Body shaming and sexualising girls, policing the way they sit, making them wear multiple different types of clothing against their wishes, and generally making them feel they have to cover themselves up in case something might accidentally slip and expose a small part of their perfectly ordinary and natural body, all in the name of making adults more comfortable is NOT the way to go. I’m appalled by this thread tbh.

I also feel so conflicted about this. My two 4yo girls hate wearing shorts, and do not understand at all why its weird for someone to see their underwear. They wear bathing suits around these same kids in the summer, so underwear feel the same to them. I have shorts available and if they ever felt embarrassed I would encourage them to wear them, but they feel so much more comfortable without them.
