Considering Cam girl work when I can't work traditionally

metintheclass · 09/06/2023 23:45

Hear me out

I am a FT carer and need to catch up on some sleep whilst my DC is at school.

That leaves, roughly, 3 or 4 hours a day for a job of any sort.

Ideally it'll be something self employed because my DC has a lot of medical appointments sometimes and this is tricky when a job is already term time only in a school, which I've left before as it was getting a bit silly with the time off

I've looked into those remote live chat jobs - an example is something like Argos or whatever, you click on chat to an agent and someone helps you. That sort of thing. But I've found 0

I'm thinking Cam work might work? Or at least worth trying? I'm not bothered about showing myself... my flesh is mine to keep. Nobody is touching me.

I have even thought of taking in ironing but there are companies who are big around here who already provide this service. The same goes for dog walking

I live in the countryside sort of semi rural and there is a local dog walker and doggy daycare type of place that provides safe open fields and stuff for dogs! So you would have ridiculous competition

Any advice and help would be appreciated

Before caring, I was a secretary in a hospital

My DC is 8 and in a special needs school so low chance of anyone recognising me there!

I'd also wear a wig I think, and do make up differently. Use a different name

Do it!!

Life is short...and expensive.

humblemeep · 10/06/2023 00:00

Apparently selling worn shoes and underwear is lucrative too.

NeverendingCircus · 10/06/2023 00:01

If you were a secretary before, could you offer your services as a virtual PA?

Cam work is degrading to you and encourages men to objectify women and not relate properly to us. Look for other options if you can. If it's not something you'd feel happy and proud of your daughter doing, don't do it yourself.

Yes I’ve heard about that but never found where/how to sell them, in my desperate earlier years

Problem with virtual PA work is needing to be available more than the 3 or 4 hour window I can currently offer clients

Yes I do see what you're saying. I get it. I wouldn't be thrilled if my DD did it but sometimes needs must, it feels like

I suppose the main reason I'd even think of doing it is because it can be accessible (I did it for a few months in my late teens before deciding it wasn't right. My new partner at the time was quite a religious Jew so I stopped without telling him I'd even done it)

I think you should do a bit of research first, it is such a competitive and saturated market.

You don't just log on and get men throwing money at you.

It takes such a long time to develop a following, you need excellent camera and lighting equipment, different outfits/toys etc.

You have to master editing, marketing, advertising etc. And even then you can walk away making a pittence.

Lots of people (MN) assume that camming is some fall back option that you can just hop into if needs must, I promise you it isn't easy at all.

However, some practical tips for you....

Adultwork is the biggest UK site with most paid traffic, ugly interface but does the trick.
Record a few short clips introducing yourself that you upload for free.
Then record any shows you do and upload them for a set fee - useful for generating passive income when you're not online.

Come up with a niche suited to you, doesn't matter what it is, and stick to it. You cannot be jack of all trades, you'll alienate too many potential users. Weird ones might get less interest overall, but those that are into it will pay more for it.

You can sell used items on Adultwork too. Do a show, offer the underwear you wore for a price (primark is your friend here)

Phoneline is least lucrative, textchat is practically dead and only really used for punters to organise meet ups with the escorts on there.

There is a very active forum for the girls to chat and support each other, get involved you can get a lot of excellent advice.

Don't forget, with any cam site you get paid into your bank account or online wallet so it is traceable and the tax man will want his share too.
It will also show on your bank statements if you have need to show anyone (I.e mortgage applications).

Catsmere · 10/06/2023 00:18

Being a cam girl is opening yourself to abuse and trauma. It’s online prostitution, pornography, however much anyone pretends otherwise. Don’t do it, the price you pay will be far too high.

Simianwalk · 10/06/2023 00:26

Tbh it's makes far far more sense to use the time building up skills and experience you can use in the future when you have more time. Maybe start cleaning or doing gardening with the aim of running a cleaning/gardening company. Or book keeping. Do a course in it and offer cheap rates.

This was banned on eBay ages ago! I suspect we could all clear out the shoe cupboard anyway and have a good few hundred sitting there Grin

Unless there is something niche about your content and you are willing to go extreme and dedicate a lot of time engaging with your audience and promoting yourself to new ones on social media you won't make much money. It pays pennies and there is lots of competition. You would make more money as an offline prostitute but it's less safe obviously.
Make up and wig won't hide much, you will still be recognised possibly by men in your social circle or in your local area.
I think you need to see what the top cam models look like and what they are doing. The average looking ones are doing more extreme and skirting legality with public nudity, there is this one online prostitute for example who flashes in public libraries and shopping centres, puts on a show while parked in her own car. Another woman chats so much with her viewers she ends up sharing her life story and it's easy to find her because as she's talking (engaging) she ended up giving so many details about where she lives and her other job.
You can easily acquire a stalker that way.
Many of them are constantly spamming insta, reddit and twitter with their work as well as engaging on snapchat and tiktok. You say you live rurally, is your internet even good enough?
Cos horny men won't have the patience to wait while your stream lags and cuts off.
It's not going to be fake orgasm for an hour and you get a hundred quids.
There will be people stealing and reposting your content. Once it's out there it's out there and you never know what sort of job or qualification you might want in the future, if you do it it will always be there to haunt you even if your feelings change about it, the internet won't forget it. I don't personally recommend it.

QueefQueen80s · 10/06/2023 09:45

Don't do it, it eats away at you. Keep your dignity and self respect

CeciliaMars · 10/06/2023 09:52

My neighbour has just started a job where she does a few hours here and there doing jobs and admin for elderly people. It's not care work - she helps them with online stuff, picks up prescriptions, a bit of light housework, some shopping etc...maybe something to think about?
I have nothing against people who do sex or cam work, but couldn't do it myself.

Mylifeislikeaboatrace · 10/06/2023 10:04

It's your body and your choice but I personally think it demeans the woman who does it. The punters are paying you and you become an object to wank over, which in turns reenforces women as objects and not people.

humblemeep · 10/06/2023 10:09

Yes, banned on eBay, but people find ways around that, plus there's social media.

Caffeineislife · 10/06/2023 10:37

I too would look at something other than cam work. It is very exploitative and pays very little unless you are willing to fill a niche and spend hours at it.

You said that ironing or dog walking wouldn't work as there are companies around you doing this. However I wouldn't rule it out, there are people who don't want to use a company for various reasons. I would explore PA or home assistance for the elderly as PP has suggested (especially as you are rural). There are quite a few elderly people who don't need personal care but could really do with an extra pair of hands a few hours a week (usually daytime in school hours) which as a family with young DC, animals, full time work we are struggling to help with on a regular enough basis for her. GMIL wants someone to come in the daytime morning/ afternoon Mon-Fri, she is a creature of habit and wants the same day every week and same time. GMIL is currently needing something like an assistant (not a carer, she is adamant she does not need a carer). She needs help with things like beds changing, someone to take her to the shops, push the trolley when it's heavy, load it into the car and put the heavy stuff away - she will not accept an online shop (too many substitutions in covid put her off). She needs ironing doing but the ironing companies around us do 1 basket for £20, 1 basket and half for £30 or items priced individually. She does not have a basket of washing every week - she washes a few items daily and even if she saves them up because she lives alone it's half a basket. She will not pay £20 for a full basket and the ironing companies charge per item if not a full basket. We have found a local mum on Facebook who does half a basket for £10 and will pick up and drop off on her way to the school run. GMIL needs someone to collect the prescriptions, take her to the bank/ post office every so often ( she loves banking in person and won't even accept the ATM machine). Post letters/ cards for her if she can't walk very far that day due to health reasons. All in all it's about 4 hours work a week, it's 4 hours as a wider family we are struggling to find at the times she wants and there is a niche there. She is not the only one looking for this, lots of her friends at the pop in shop are in the same situation. I would explore that. If you have a local magazine I would pop an advert in there for your services and see how you do.

catslovelife · 10/06/2023 10:39

I don't think cam work earns much money as there are so many women doing it. The successful women are those who have a niche, and usually they have to put a lot of effort into marketing themselves.

admireme.vip has an online shop where you can sell these items. So long as it's legal you can list it.

JandalsAlways · 10/06/2023 11:12

Do whatever works best for you, but also work out the worst case scenario. Your pictures go public etc and what that could mean in the future for you and your DC

DressDilemma · 10/06/2023 11:15

Think carefully about your DCs and how they will deal with this when they are older. Your pics could go public and be discovered by friends and family. Are you alright dealing with these consequences?

ArcticSkewer · 10/06/2023 11:19

Do you think you'd be any good at it?

I wouldn't know where to start!

BigCheekBitch · 10/06/2023 11:32

Doesn't sound like you're fully into it. Due to the huge rise of Only Fans and the recession we're about to get into there's going to be massive competition - meaning you could show a lot and gain a little. And as said up thread, the internet is forever.

Could you try reselling clothes? Wash, iron, post better pics - scour local charity shops. Get a little machine that de-pills clothes.

I'd be quite happy to donate clothes to someone local - shoes that need a bit of mud scraped off etc, who wanted to make a bit of money in this tight economy. Be very handy if you could drive and pick up or drop off. Some people don't mind who gets items they post for free - others are scathing so making sure you have a nice message you copy and paste that says something about how your child has a disability, you just want a little extra cash and you will pick up and drop off when you say you will etc so they have the option to say no.

allabouttheboy · 10/06/2023 13:00

Realistically you have to do pretty sexually degrading things and offer free content. You don't just flash a boob and vagina.
And if you get enough men watching to make much money, word will get around.

allabouttheboy · 10/06/2023 13:01

Also a lot of cam filming is semi professionally produced now.
