Correct way to eat toast

SlimPig · 06/06/2023 09:14

AIBU to think that the correct way to eat toast is to eat the crusts on 3 sides, then the best, middle bit, then the last crust?

I swing between thinking hot melted buttery toast is best vs cold toast with unmelted butter, variously too.

If I had any pearls I would be clutching them in horror at the very thought of dunking buttered toast in my tea!

I butter hot toast straight from the toaster, fold in half and eat round the edges before devouring the middle bit, which is the best. If marmite is also applied, the toast must be eaten super fast as marmite is grim eaten cold.

If I had any to loan you, I would! 😀

Soundsthesame · 06/06/2023 12:08

I really want toast now.
Hot, cut in triangles, salty butter.

Emmaaa1990 · 06/06/2023 12:10

Sorry why is this even a question? Are you that bored you need to ask strangers the correct way to eat toast 😂🙈 wow.

Yes. And then I scoop them out with a spoon and eat them.

The crusts are the best bit so you leave them till last.

Jewelanemone · 06/06/2023 12:24

Cold, with a layer of salted butter so thick you leave tooth marks in it.

RightWhereYouLeftMe · 06/06/2023 12:39

Whole slice, eat the crusts, save the middle for the last mouthful.

DH and I are complete opposites when it comes to toast, he is in the put butter on straight away and eat hot camp, whereas I am in the leave it to cool right down and then put butter on camp.

I'm in both camps, butter it while it's hot and top it up when it's cooled down a bit.

Deadringer · 06/06/2023 13:04

I am eating toast now. I eat the slice whole, in no particular order, but I keep a centre bit for the last bite.

Deadringer · 06/06/2023 13:05

Oh and I butter and eat it while it's still hot/warm.

This is the only way I will accept;

buttered straight out of the toaster with a good butter- none of this 'tastes like butter' stuff, real butter with a light touch. Don't crush the toast.

Leave it whole

nibble all 4 crusts off

Now you'll want take that middle bit and pull apart the soft, squishy buttered layer from the crunchy non-buttered layer.

Eat the crunchy bit, dip in your tea if you're feeling fancy.

And you have the final, most delicious piece left. The soft, buttery layer of the middle area.

You're all welcome.

10000% this. I didn't think anyone else did this so I am thrilled

tootyflooty · 06/06/2023 13:11

slightly cool, with thick slab of butter on so it doesn't all melt into the bread, in triangles if I want to dip it in my cup of tea. Ok I'm a slob, but just drooling thinking about that right now!!!

I thought this was a good-natured thread until I saw your post, OP.

SlimPig · 06/06/2023 14:27

It is, but eating toast crumbs from tea with a spoon is a going a bit far.

I won’t eat toast that’s warm or too toasted. I like it very lightly toasted and then left to cool propped up so it stays crispy and doesn’t get all disgusting wet condensation underneath. Toast sweat 🤢
Then a liberal application of proper salted butter (absolutely nothing spreadable from a plastic tub) and cut in half. Begrudgingly eat the crusts but if there’s one left at the end it goes to the chickens.

It's hardly a good-natured thread. But you keep telling yourself that it is.

Whatevergetsyouthroughthenight · 06/06/2023 14:41

Move aside everyone, I have just eaten a slice of toast so am clearly an expert.

  1. Toast must be as hot as possible. Add toppings quickly. I recommend spread (oh, butter, I miss you since my lactose intolerance developed) and marmite OR homemade jam OR marmalade.
  2. Toast must ALWAYS be accompanied by a Nice Cup of Tea, to be dipped in between bites, so get the kettle on.
  3. Cut prepared toast in two. You can change it up by going diagonally, vertically or horizontally.
  4. Eat crust of first half, then savour lovely middle.
  5. Repeat step 4 with other half of toast.
  6. Make second slice as first slice was so gorgeous.

Remove crusts, eat toast, give crusts to Golden Retriever who is staring at you

Replace retriever with Labrador and that is exactly how all toast is eaten in our house.

GoodnightJude1 · 06/06/2023 14:46

Surely you CANNOT eat 3 sides??? The middle bit must go floppy and you’d have to contort you face to get the correct angle to catch the middle part?? Madness!

You quite obviously should take the toast out of the toaster straight away, butter it and cut diagonally. Then eat each half from one end to the other. Thus giving you the stability of the crust in each bite and no chance of a saggy middle.

xogossipgirlxo · 06/06/2023 14:47

I just eat evenly, don't like eating crust and being left with soft bit. I like variety 😂 Oh and last bits of crust are for cats.

GoodChat · 06/06/2023 15:49

Yes. And then I scoop them out with a spoon and eat them.

The police are on their way

DemonicCaveMaggot · 06/06/2023 15:55

Make the toast, let it go cold, butter it, eat it.

Anything else is just self indulgence.
