Correct way to eat toast

SlimPig · 06/06/2023 09:14

AIBU to think that the correct way to eat toast is to eat the crusts on 3 sides, then the best, middle bit, then the last crust?

I swing between thinking hot melted buttery toast is best vs cold toast with unmelted butter, variously too.

No no NO.

Hot from toaster (why would you grill it are you mad!)
Coat in butter.
Cut in half (rectangles)
Fold the half over and stuff in face

There isn't a 'right way' to eat toast...
That's the beauty of it. You can eat it at any time and any way you prefer.

Hidinginaonesie · 06/06/2023 10:53

Thank you all for messing up my 16/8 fast. Wasn’t supposed to eat until 12.00. Have just had two pieces of hot melted buttery toast, not cut, crusts first except for a corner to hold, middle last, corner crusts ‘accidentally’ dropped on floor to be sneakily filched by dog.

This is MN, of course there's a right way to eat toast.

I forgot to mention earlier that one slice feeds my family for a month. And we don't eat for two months after that.

Cut it in half across the diagonal. If it's soldiers, eat the ones with more crust first and leave the best bits till last.

whatwasIgoingtosay · 06/06/2023 11:03

I have discovered the Kingsmill crustless loaf. Brilliant for toast, and for sandwiches.

bluechameleon · 06/06/2023 11:05

No. Because obviously you have cut your toast in half before eating it, therefore there are only 3 crusts. Or 2 if you're being fancy and cutting diagonally. But it is correct to eat the crusts before the middle.

Panda89 · 06/06/2023 11:06

I’m a cold toast covered in salted lurpak kinda girl.
Always eaten whole, never cut the toast (no idea why)

motherofawhirlwind · 06/06/2023 11:09

Right, so, toast out of toaster as soon as popped and stood up like a tent for 30 seconds. This allows the outsides to cool whilst keeping the inside warm. Butter to colder sides so butter melts a little, but not enough to make the toast soggy and disgusting. Butter thickly enough to be able to see teeth marks when you bite. Cut into triangles. Bite a corner off, then the middle bit next to it, the crust bit next to that, then the right angled corner. Finish middle bits up to the crust. Eat the final corner, then throw the remaining crust bit to the dog.

lostinfusion · 06/06/2023 11:13

with OP - 3 crusts first but leaving a crust corner handle that you hold to eat the middle bit.

Very very best of all though is the whole crust at the ends of the bread

cunningartificer · 06/06/2023 11:15

Hot, buttered, triangles (of course), held by the crust and eaten from the lovely soft point down (with big toast can be folded but must always be held by crust). Crusts eaten with second cup of tea. Variations of delight are proper marmalade (on top of butter not instead of) and in winter dipping buttery toast points into hot chocolate (this May be frowned on by purists but is utterly delicious)...

Everydayimhuffling · 06/06/2023 11:18

I had no idea there were so many wrong-headed people eating cold toast!

Out of the toaster, butter immediately making sure you get butter one every bit, cut into triangles if feeling fancy, eat the crusts and finish with the last delicious buttery bite.

CatsOnTheChair · 06/06/2023 11:18

Hot toast ( I agree grilled is superior to toaster, IF you don't burn it) loads of proper, salted, butter (I don't understand the concept of too much butter, who suggested that is possible?)
Maybe a dash of bovril on there.
Crusts eaten first. Then the middle. Why cut it??

CurlewKate · 06/06/2023 11:20

Two words. Aga toast.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 06/06/2023 11:24

Thick freshly cut slice of bread toasted on one side only with plenty of good butter with salt crystals melting into it. Excuse me i need to go make a loaf.

orangegato · 06/06/2023 11:24

SuperbSummer2023 · 06/06/2023 10:28

@orangegato well, how else would you make triangles?

I meant the toast is a triangle, and you eat corner to corner (starting at a pointy one). That was very unclear!

DCINightingale · 06/06/2023 11:26

@motherofawhirlwind I do the toast teepee too. DH will mock, but he still obliges to form the toast tent if he is making me toast.

I also nearly always nibble crusts off first and then peel the two layers apart. Crunchy dry eaten next and then lovely buttery treat as the finale.

And always triangles, buttered when tepid so you can still see your teeth marks in the butter when you eat it.

catin8oots · 06/06/2023 11:27

DS1 (23) eats his whole but UPSIDE DOWN so the tastiest bit goes on his taste buds. He does the same with pizza.

Florissante · 06/06/2023 11:34

You're all monsters. The best way to eat toast is to dip it in tea.

MarkWithaC · 06/06/2023 11:35

I've never heard of this dipping toast in tea business before. I am an enthusiastic biscuit-dunker, but toast into tea is depraved.

GoodChat · 06/06/2023 11:42

So much psychopathy in one thread.

You cut it in half - rectangles - then eat each half in 4 bites. Every mouthful has bread and crust. The texture combination is best that way.

And obviously you always eat it hot with melted butter.

Don't you get crumbs in your tea?

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 06/06/2023 11:49

If I had any pearls I would be clutching them in horror at the very thought of dunking buttered toast in my tea!

I butter hot toast straight from the toaster, fold in half and eat round the edges before devouring the middle bit, which is the best. If marmite is also applied, the toast must be eaten super fast as marmite is grim eaten cold.

PurpleParrotfish · 06/06/2023 12:06

Why faff around cutting it? A normal size slice of toast can be picked up just fine in one hand.
And hot toast with melted butter definitely, that’s the whole point! Crusts wouldn’t taste so good if separated, they need to be eaten with the rest of the toast to add a bit of crunch…
And I want toast now. I wonder how many calories have been consumed by MN users as a direct result of this thread.

Florissante · 06/06/2023 12:08

GoodChat · 06/06/2023 11:42

Yes. And then I scoop them out with a spoon and eat them.
