Correct way to eat toast

SlimPig · 06/06/2023 09:14

AIBU to think that the correct way to eat toast is to eat the crusts on 3 sides, then the best, middle bit, then the last crust?

I swing between thinking hot melted buttery toast is best vs cold toast with unmelted butter, variously too.

Toast must never be dipped in tea. That's disgusting.

@stopringingme 🙌
But I don't care if anyone is watching 😂

kingtamponthefurred · 06/06/2023 09:59

If you leave it to cool down, you are missing the whole point of toast.

I shovel it in cookie monster style

Spreading your toppings all across your toast is definitely not the thing to do. This is how toast should be eaten:

My 3rd dc has to have basically bread that has been in toaster but not toasted and then left to cool so he can see the butter on the 'pretend toast that is really bread' if it is actually toasted, he won't eat it and say its burnt

mrsbyers · 06/06/2023 10:03

Crust inwards , preferring cold toast these days with a nice cold coating of butter and then maldon sprinkled on

UncleHerbie · 06/06/2023 10:04

I never cut toast as it cools too quickly. Toast racks are the most pointless pieces of kitchenalia ever designed (in my opinion)

Seasonofthewitch83 · 06/06/2023 10:04

What an outrageously offensive post.

Hot, butter, triangles, discard crusts.

toomuchlaundry · 06/06/2023 10:06

@Hankunamatata your 3rd DC could be me!

BonnieGlasses · 06/06/2023 09:17

You're so wrong. The correct way to eat toast is to eat your way around the crust first and then finish with the middle bit. Who wants to end with a mouthful of crust?! Confused

Agreed! Also hot toast and melted butter, cold toast is odd.

fancyfrogs · 06/06/2023 10:09

In rectangles and just eat from one side to the other. Hot and buttered so it melts. The weirdest part of this thread os seeing people say they don't cut their toast at all!

WeRateSquirrels · 06/06/2023 10:12

Hot from toaster, loads of real butter, eat in one piece. Faffing around cutting it up would cool it down to much.

I'm lucky hisnolder brother adores toast so eats all the 'burnt' slices

Oysterbabe · 06/06/2023 10:19

Crusts are the best bit.
Butter, cut in half, just work from one side to the other ending with a crust corner.

mastertomsmum · 06/06/2023 10:23

.Toast it but not too much
.Butter it before it cools and - again - not too much
.Cut it in half
.Eat middle, edge, middle edge
.Leave last crust corner of too hard

Before you start, make sure you have proper bread not sliced unless off bakery counter

Drosselmeyer · 06/06/2023 10:25

I swing between thinking hot melted buttery toast is best vs cold toast with unmelted butter, variously too.

Nigella suggests double-buttering- you butter the toast when it's hot so the butter melts then wait until it's cooled a bit and butter it again with butter that doesn't melt. Best of both worlds, maybe don't tell your doctor.

OliveHenry · 06/06/2023 10:26

What about toasted teacakes which don't have an edge crust, and can't be triangled?

SuperbSummer2023 · 06/06/2023 10:28

orangegato · 06/06/2023 09:31

Triangles, corner to corner.

@orangegato well, how else would you make triangles?

evtheria · 06/06/2023 10:29

I eat from a corner, then totally haphazardly until I am left holding about an inch across of crust. Which I always leave.

RicherThanYews · 06/06/2023 10:29

@TroysMammy is correct. I hate booby bits! Triangles surely is the only way to avoid heartburn though.

BobShark · 06/06/2023 10:33

Fresh bakery sourdough, toasted but not burnt, real butter applied immediately, followed by a sprinkle of maldon salt.

Eat the bottom of the loaf crust first, then most of the top, then the soft buttery salty middle part.

What is all this dipping in tea nonsense? Don't you end up with crumbs at the end of the tea? Or are you all leaving the last 20% of tea in the cup?

RagingWoke · 06/06/2023 10:34

OliveHenry · 06/06/2023 10:26

Nibble the edges, then peel off the outer crust (the non-buttery side) and eat that. Then finish with the tasty middle part.

Oh maybe pick out a few raisins as you go too.

No, no no. Toast from a gas grill is the best toast. Toaster toast is shit.

Toast triangles just don't taste as good as toast rectangles. Tastes too pointy.
