To wear my dress this way?

Violaofviterbo · 29/05/2023 08:50

I have a lovely blue dress that has a large cut out tear drop in the back. Till now I’ve worn a black or cream vest underneath the dress to cover the back of my bra as the cut out shows the whole of my back bra strap. But the fabric of the dress is light- it’s a summer dress - and the vest feels like an additional layer I would rather do without!

I’ve treated myself to some lovely new colourful bras recently from Lemonade Dolls and Lounge and have been toying with the idea of losing the vest and leaving my back bra strap on show. Would this look cheap and tacky or OK?

This is one of the bras

The other one is red.

Advice please!

Totally fine!

Ifulikepinacoladas · 29/05/2023 08:53

I think that would look lovely. I wld get that bra too and display it...if I didn't need underwired!

Doggymummar · 29/05/2023 08:53

I've just bought some bright crop top bralettes for just the same reason. Being a 34 hh I can't go braless and waist fastening ones aren't up to the job.

Ponoka7 · 29/05/2023 08:53

This is why bralette style bras/tops came out. They are fine to be on show. Also, generally people aren't paying that much attention, it's only those who leave the house to judge, who are.

Itsanotherhreatday · 29/05/2023 08:53

Asda do them much cheaper and this has been a trend for a years - it’s not new!!

Doggymummar · 29/05/2023 08:53

So yes, I think it's totally fine

GenXtra · 29/05/2023 08:54

Totally fine.

Elphame · 29/05/2023 08:56

I wouldn't do it.

It seems to be pretty acceptable nowadays though so if you want to then go ahead. I doubt anyone will take that much notice one way or the other.

I need that size; can I please ask where you got them from? Are they ok and supportive?

Sigmama · 29/05/2023 09:04

That bra looks gorgeous

Violaofviterbo · 29/05/2023 09:15

Thanks everyone!!

Also I am a 38E and find the Lemonade Dolls one supportive enough. Obviously there is a little more movement and I wouldn’t go running in it but it feels great so I’d totally recommend.

I know it is acceptable these days, but I'm just not keen on the look.

Would something like this work? Or this?

Oysterbabe · 29/05/2023 09:21

Do you work for that company? Watch out, looks like it's a subscription site.

RampantIvy · 29/05/2023 09:23

I don't work for any lingerie companies. I just did a quick google.

Another request for information for supportive ones in this kind of size please

This feels like an ad... why would you ask if its ok to wear a bra with a dress? 🤨

Justforkitchencorner · 29/05/2023 09:41

Was also coming on to say bralette. Then there is no fastening at the back so it doesn't look bra-ish

whiteroseredrose · 29/05/2023 09:41

I wouldn't as the point of the ope back is to show off skin, not a bra strap. I know lots of people do it so obviously your choice.

I would buy a backless bra for the times I wore this. I also once saw a front fastener bra with the back strap made out of clear plastic that would have done. Slightly visible but didn't draw attention to itself.

It's an open back dress

LlynTegid · 29/05/2023 09:52

Not sure red and blue would go together.

SmileyClare · 29/05/2023 09:52

I think it ruins the look of a backless dress.

There’s also usually some fleshy overspill at the back from any type of bra (especially if a large 38E ) and the teardrop cut out will just draw the eye to that.

I don’t think it’s cheap or “tacky” though.

Just a bit “messy” and thrown together.

Its a no from me. Sorry you did ask for opinions!

Mirabai · 29/05/2023 09:57

I would at least do a bra in the same colour as the dress.

Also I agree with pp that at a the bra size, bras tend to cut into back fat, so I would check it in the mirror first.

Fighterofthenightman1 · 29/05/2023 10:07

I personally think backless dreses look nicer without any sort of bra strap at the back.

ReformedWaywardTeen · 29/05/2023 10:08

I used to deliberately wear backless or low backed tops and dresses with a pretty bra on show. Way back in the late 90s!
