To wear my dress this way?

I have a lovely blue dress that has a large cut out tear drop in the back. Till now I’ve worn a black or cream vest underneath the dress to cover the back of my bra as the cut out shows the whole of my back bra strap. But the fabric of the dress is light- it’s a summer dress - and the vest feels like an additional layer I would rather do without!

I’ve treated myself to some lovely new colourful bras recently from Lemonade Dolls and Lounge and have been toying with the idea of losing the vest and leaving my back bra strap on show. Would this look cheap and tacky or OK?

This is one of the bras

The other one is red.

Advice please!

The Synergy Bralette, Emerald & Baby Pink - Lemonade Dolls

Bold and sexy, the Synergy Bralette combines our delicate, soft stretch lace with super supportive semi-sheer power mesh.

Agreed. Way too many dresses where the above applies. In my view if a dress is going to need a specialist bra then it should be built into the dress. Would save so much hassle

I think it depends what color your skin is. I wouldn't wear a pink strap with light skin. It might look like you were trying to camo it but not succeeding. If you're going to show your back then I would go for something which looks like you intended it, so either complementary colours very obvious T back shape like a PP above.

That should say: if you're going to show your back STRAP then make it look intentional.

Thanks everyone!!

Also I am a 38E and find the Lemonade Dolls one supportive enough. Obviously there is a little more movement and I wouldn’t go running in it but it feels great so I’d totally recommend.

No, I wouldn’t do this if I had a 38 inch back. I don’t think it would look very flattering.

No... don't think it's a good look. The dress is designed to show skin not a bra/ bralette of any colour.

FabFitFifties · 29/05/2023 16:30

I wouldn't, I think it looks naff. If you must, I'd match the colour in. I went without in my youth, but I couldn't now. At the end of the day, you do you, if you can do so without worrying what others think.

I agree. Sorry.

Bra straps look a bit tacky showing on open back dresses imo

That abielle bralette thing is ugly, but each to their own😑
