To feel depressed when the weather gets warmer

milkydress · 18/05/2023 15:57

Just that really. I feel so low and crap about myself in the summer especially. I hate going out when it's warm / hot outside.
I hate summer clothes and sandals. I feel bloated and fat as soon as it starts getting warm. I feel really exposed and not able to focus on anything positive. Does anybody else experience this? If so, is there anything that helps?

I'm.with you op I'm also fat and bloated and constantly too warm and a horrible sweaty mess. I also feel worse about my lack of motivation to do anything.

bluebeck · 18/05/2023 16:01

Gosh, I am the total opposite, despite being a couple of stone overweight.

Do you feel you are overweight in general, or is there a specific body part that you feel unhappy about exposing in the warmer weather?

I never wear anything sleeveless because I don’t like upper arms for example, but that doesn’t make me hate summer.

I think poster’s would be better able to help if you can be more focused on exactly what the problem is. Do you sweat a lot? I think Botox can help with that?

LongLiveGoblingKing · 18/05/2023 16:05

Yes I hate being sweaty and red and sticky. Summer clothes are ugly. Sandals are uncomfortable. Wasps are the worst. I'm generally grumpy until Autumn.

milkydress · 18/05/2023 16:07

No I don't sweat a lot and I am bit overweight either. It's just something about it being hot and very bright - it just makes my mood drop.
I have always felt like this. I think the issue may be deeper and about how I feel about exposing my body but I also think it has something to do with chemicals / hormones that this weather produces. I don't know 🤷‍♂️

I meant I am not overweight

I hate the summer, I hate not being able to cool down I always feel like I'm suffocating and I end up in a really depressed state from lack of sleep and severe anxiety.

the80sweregreat · 18/05/2023 16:10

I hate hot weather too. The UK isn't really designed for it and we can't afford air con to be fitted.
Makes me feel worried and dreading another heatwave this year , although it probably will be as the temperatures rise

Notimeforaname · 18/05/2023 16:10

You dont have to show your body off. Wear long trousers and skirts. Loose fitting, light clothes.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/05/2023 16:11

I am the same,I hate the brightness and being hot. I like a spring day with a good breeze or a lovely frosty winters day.

Lcb123 · 18/05/2023 16:12

Gosh I’m the opposite. Having more daylight just really cheers me up, makes the day feel so much longer and can get outside more. Not bothered when it’s very hot tho!

I have summer seasonal affective disorder (summer SAD). Sounds like you might have it too?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 18/05/2023 16:14

I’m the total opposite - it massively cheers me up! The cold, miserable weather depresses me though.

Bookist · 18/05/2023 16:16

I have found my people. I really dislike hot weather. I don't like it when the temperature goes much above 25 if I'm honest. I sweat a lot on my face and it spoils any make up I try to wear and makes my skin sore. I was designed for chilly, overcast weather with a hint of frost.

This
It's actually better to wear loose fitting light clothes in the heat such as cotton shirts and loose trousers/ skirts and light colours that don't attract the sun. Also get a good fitting pair of sandals not cheapy flip flops or sandals that rub your feet.

fatsdominospizza · 18/05/2023 16:24

I absolutely hate the summer. I adore Winter.

Blondey2023 · 18/05/2023 16:27

Yup, my mood takes a huge nose dive from spring until end of summer. Getting too hot and bothered, light evenings and morning so kids don't sleep, deciding what to wear that keeps me cool but is flattering, and so many more reasons. I've been so happy May has been below average temperature, so console myself with the fact that in 3 months it will start to cool down and get darker wahoo!!

Paperlate · 18/05/2023 16:28

LittleLegsKeepGoing · 18/05/2023 16:37

As May progresses I invariably start getting really anxious about the warmer months. I hate being hot, I hate bright sunshine the whole thing makes me miserable.

I don't start feeling myself again until mid-September normally.

My mother is the complete opposite and now is the time she starts feeling normal. I'd love to know why some of us are pre-disposed to summer and others against it.

TwoFluffyDogsOnMyBed · 18/05/2023 16:47

I don’t like temperatures over 23C but I’d say I don’t become really stressed until they hit maybe 27C. I do like the weather today because my body feels more relaxed and I love sunshine. But I hired an Airbnb with air conditioning for two nights during the last heatwave so that’s how much I hate heat.

I don’t much like winter either though except for beautiful frosty, sunny days. A lot of that is because I have to walk my dogs and I can’t wear gloves and manage the leads.

I imagine that any extreme temperature is going to cause anxiety for a sensitive person. I guess that although we know on a rational level that the temperature won’t kill us, our body doesn’t so it starts producing stress hormones.

Naimee87 · 18/05/2023 16:50

Yep! I’m with you i hate the heat/summer. So much pressure to be out and about and doing things. Anything over 25 and i’ll not be able to function, love autumn the most

winter can be alright as well because i love wrapping up.

Snoken · 18/05/2023 16:59

I quite like summer normally but I really didn't like it much when I lived in the UK. It's just far too humid and I felt constantly sticky. I don't mind dry heat though.

Yvetty · 18/05/2023 17:00

I’m similar but find anything over 20 degrees too much! Unfortunately, I’m a sweaty person (not overweight) with rosy cheeks anyway so I hate going out in the heat. The exception is when I’m on holiday - but I’d avoid anywhere super hot.

I hate the expectation that everyone is meant to enjoy the summer - and be happy that’s it’s hot. Plus all the comments that 25 degrees (or whatever) isn’t hot, you see it on here all the time. It is to me!!

much prefer autumn.

Sissynova · 18/05/2023 17:00

I wait all winter to be able to wear summer clothes! I love sandals, dresses, jeans and floaty floral tops etc.

Personally I think most people look better in summer clothes regardless of their weight.

Alwaysworryingoversomething · 18/05/2023 17:02

Yes I really dislike hot weather and the light evenings. I mush prefer it when it gets dark early. I think I've always been like that.
I also don't like having to justify this feeling and people thinking I'm a misery - which I'm not at all!

God yes don't they! Just because, shock horror, we all like different things, people make out you're a misery for not being a sun worshipper like it's a competition!
