To be fed up about weather forecast for holiday

PeacheyPeach · 12/05/2023 11:09

Have booked to go to South of France in 10 days. Have checked weather forecast and its raining virtually every day!
Now I just feel like I can't be bothered to go!
It's the only holiday we will have this year and I feel so disappointed that its going to rubbish weather.
I know I need to get over it but am I wrong to wish we could cancel it!!

It's hard isn't it? Hopefully the forecast is overly pessimistic.

Banditdog · 12/05/2023 11:15

I think you are a bit early, the weather forecast will change over the next ten days.

SuperABunDance · 12/05/2023 11:15

It's unlikely to be raining continuously though. Pack a decent raincoat and waterproof trainers and you'll be fine. You'll probably find that tourist places aren't too overcrowded as the local and day trip visitors won't bother to go if there's a threat of rain!

AnyFucker · 12/05/2023 11:18

There may be showers or some overnight rain but it isn’t going to rain 24/7 for the duration. Also, isn’t 10 days hence a bit early to make any accurate forecasts ?

PeacheyPeach · 12/05/2023 11:47

I really wouldn't mind if it rained overnight but by the looks of it it's going to all day 😭
I just feel so disappointed I know that the kids can swim in the pool still as it is heated , I just wanted to feel some heat on my bones!
It's been a long winter 😪

Can you cancel without it costing you? If the answer to that is no then you have no alternative. You'll have to make the most of it (or suck up the cost)

If you can cancel the next question is would you cancel?

Would you rebook for the summer / try a different destination if you can find anything at such short notice.

I know its frustrating (I did a long haul trip many years ago when it rained 11 out of 14 days and we had to cancel most of our excursions, which were the main reason for the trip!! Oh and this rain was also totally "out of season" and we'd gone in dry season) but hold tight.

OMalleysAlley · 12/05/2023 12:05

I'm on holiday abroad now, when I checked the forecast at home a couple weeks ago it said 22 degrees and cloudy with drizzle.

It's actually been 25-27 and hot sun every day.

BashfulClam · 12/05/2023 12:06

On my k lol set holiday I went to New York. The weather said rain and cold, they had a heatwave!

SVRT19674 · 12/05/2023 12:07

Typical of France. Whenever I´ve been it has rained, but not solidly, but you do need to pack a mack and umbrella.

Chanelsunnies · 12/05/2023 12:11

I’d say not to worry too much yet as a lot can change in 10 days.

We went abroad the other week and 10 days before it said two of the 7 days were going to be rain and it was going fo be highs of 23 all week. By the time we got there, there wasn’t a drop of rain in sight and it was 26/27 all week.

Id also check out the ‘chance of rain’ if you’re on the BBC app. (Will say % underneath each day/ temp) as it may have a rain symbol for that day but it could be only 28% chance for instance, so unlikely.

I know exactly what you mean though and YANBU, fingers crossed for you!

maddiemookins16mum · 12/05/2023 12:36

10 days time…yabu.
We went to Holland 3 weeks ago, I was obsessed with checking the weather as it forecast rain the whole weekend. Lo and behold 3 days before we went it changed and then again the day before, we had lovely sunshine.
It would be unusual for the South of France to rain for 10 days towards the end of May.

MissingMoominMamma · 12/05/2023 12:38

You might have thunderstorms, but I’d be extremely surprised if it rained constantly!

harriethoyle · 12/05/2023 12:38

We were in Greece last week - forecast for torrential rain and thunderstorms for 4 of the 5 days we planned to laze at our hotel sunbathing... In the end one day and night of rain and the rest was glorious to the extent I got sunburn! So don't despair just yet...

CornishGem1975 · 12/05/2023 12:46

It's far too early to pay attention to the weather forecast. I looked at tomorrow's earlier today and it's different again now!

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 12/05/2023 12:48

They, and many other places in Europe, suffered a really bad drought.

Rain is badly needed.

Delatron · 12/05/2023 13:00

There’s no way that forecast is accurate 10 days in advance. And it could be the odd shower.

However, it’s France in May? If you wanted guaranteed warm weather that’s not the time of year or place to book. I stopped going to France as we had a run of cold/bad weather for years even in August.

Spain/Greece is a better bet and even then in May there’s no guarantee- it’s too early in the year.

FairAcre · 12/05/2023 13:03

Try Accuweather.com. It is by far the best weather app in my opinion. Probably because it is always the most optimistic!

SeatonCarew · 12/05/2023 13:04

I have noticed for some time that they all tend to put the worst possible symbol against each day's forecast.

LadyJ2023 · 12/05/2023 13:04

We are currently starting our 2nd week away and we've had one day out rain rain and more rain we are actually considering going home as now its getting plain boring with 4 kids and so far all we had planned we couldn't do because of weather

Where are you? Sounds rubbish but it is May…

usernotfound0000 · 12/05/2023 13:07

Same here. We are going to Italy in 2 weeks and it is currently raining every day and not much improvement for when we go. I was so looking forward to it but just feel meh about it now. Crossing everything that it improves!

Cheeseandlobster · 12/05/2023 13:09

Same. I am going to Spain and the forecast is miserable

Moredarkchocolateplease · 12/05/2023 13:09

Ditto. Menorca at half term. But I'm hoping it will feel warmer than the forecast 22 deg...

vivainsomnia · 12/05/2023 13:10

Where in South of France? Limoges? Not impossible. Med coast, that would be an exceptional phenomenon that it would rain for 7 days in a row.

Alexandra2001 · 12/05/2023 13:12

Your starting your hols in 10 days?

There is no way they can give an accurate hour by hour forecast BUT going on Accuweather for Nice, from 24/5 to the 4/6, give really nice weather, not scorchio & very little rain.

But i understand your concerns, so i will have your holiday and you can stay in England?
