To be fed up about weather forecast for holiday

PeacheyPeach · 12/05/2023 11:09

Have booked to go to South of France in 10 days. Have checked weather forecast and its raining virtually every day!
Now I just feel like I can't be bothered to go!
It's the only holiday we will have this year and I feel so disappointed that its going to rubbish weather.
I know I need to get over it but am I wrong to wish we could cancel it!!

I went to Crete last month and the forecast said 16° with drizzle up until the day we flew. It was blue skies and sunshine for the whole week and DH got sunburnt 🤣 fingers crossed for you!

minipie · 12/05/2023 13:15

I’m in the same position. Accuweather forecast looks rubbish.

But then I tried some other forecasts and they looked much better! which a) cheered me up and b) made me realise that nobody really knows what the weather will be.

You might have to plan a slightly different sort of holiday - more day trips less sunbathing - but I’m sure you’ll still have a lovely time.

RavenclawDiadem · 12/05/2023 13:21

And on the flip side, bbc weather today says that we should be having sunny intervals in Glasgow today. We're definitely not.

10 days out is far too long to be accurate.

MarkWithaC · 12/05/2023 13:23

I was recently on hols in Cornwall and even on the actual day, the forecast was saying rain and cloud while the weather was in fact sunny! Plus it's 10 days away; a lot can change in that time. Have faith, OP.

StuffyHuffyPuffy · 12/05/2023 13:32

I remember checking in advance for Paris around this time of year. It'd be rainy, then cloudy, then sunny. It then stabilised, so that the first part was rainy but we'd have a good 2 days of sun. Actually ended up with a sunny and hot 3 days, and then rain for the last day.

No way will all 10 days be crap.

deplorabelle · 12/05/2023 13:35

This is NUTS especially the person who's spent a week doing nothing because there's water falling out of the sky. Anyone would think that rain peeled the skin off you and central heating had never been invented.

I have been prevented from doing some activities by the weather (an island I wanted to visit cut off by fog, a cable car stopped for high winds) but I've never not had a good time because it's raining.

This cold may is probably being made worse by climate breakdown (Jetstream weakened by a rapidly warming Arctic) but even before that happened you couldn't expect unbroken sunny weather in May. What else are you hoping for from your holiday, apart from sunshine?

Work2live · 12/05/2023 13:46

Honestly, please don’t read too much into it!

We visited Croatia recently and it forecast rain every day - we had two short showers in 9 days. Otherwise blue skies. Just make sure to pack some wet weather gear just in case!

notimagain · 12/05/2023 13:52

We're in south west France and FWIW for us May historically was often the wettest months of the year, often very showery and not certainly not always warm..

Looking out of the window right now at the rain I'd say it looks like we've returned to the norm after a few unusually dry springs .....I know that's not great for holidays but the garden and trees appreciate it.

Read the room. People cant afford heating bills and put food on the table. First world problem I think. x

Oh fgs , do you write that on every thread cos let's face it you could apply that to pretty much everything. As for reading the room....only you mentioned it...

This IS the room for this thread Grin Read another thread if you don't like this one?

I’ve never known it rain that much in the south. Even if you get days of bad weather it’s still warmer and the sun when it pokes out is much hotter than here.
Definitely don’t waste time and money cancelling.

Radiatorvalves · 12/05/2023 14:34

Just looked at the forecast for Marseilles and it doesn’t look that bad. I’m sure you’ll see some sun, although agree with a pp that May is strangely unreliable in south of France. Hope you have fun!

Mutabiliss · 12/05/2023 14:45

It's unlikely to rain all day every day in the south of France. Anyway, it will feel different - the air is different, the humidity. We're just back from Menorca and although the weather said it was 20-22 degrees with some rain expected and a lot of cloud, we actually had mostly hot sun, some cloud and about two showers. It was short sleeve/dress and sandals weather even in the rain, and beach weather in the sun.

Plus you're somewhere different - that's as much of a holiday as the weather, surely?

GMsAWinner · 12/05/2023 14:53

The weather forecast could well change in the meantime and some of the rain forecast could be late evening, night-time or early morning. If I could swap with you, I wouldn't mind 10 days in the south of France. Hope it works out for you.

SisterSister23 · 12/05/2023 14:56

The weather still has time to change
Imagine if you didn't go then the weather turned out to be fine!
The forecast 2 days before my wedding was terrible, I wanted to cancel, turned out to be warm and sunny! And that was north of England, so south of France you have a good chance of at least some sun!

Supernova23 · 12/05/2023 15:04

I almost always do somewhere in Europe in May every year. It can be hit or miss given the time of year. I very much doubt it will rain for the duration. It will rain for a bit but it still be warm and you will almost certainly see sun, too. You don't go to Europe in May and expect wall to wall sunshine.

Waves from soggy SW France!

We've had a lot of rain but interspersed with lovely sunshine and temperatures in the mid-twenties.

Bit surprised that the heating kicked in this morning. Thermostat is set at 13 degrees :-(

Humphriescushion · 12/05/2023 15:05

Where in the South? It’s been very windy where I am but this is forecast to be the last day. Thunderstorm at the moment but just been 40 minutes away in the sun. Don’t usually put much store in forecasts so far in advance and I then use météo France.

FFs there's always one isn't there. People can't afford heating therefore no one can ever moan about anything ever again.

purpleboy · 12/05/2023 15:16

Where are you going exactly op?
My daughter is currently living in Antibes and they have had good weather recently even though the weather forecast is saying rain. There may be hope yet!!

PeacheyPeach · 12/05/2023 15:16

Thanks everyone ☺️ you all sound much more reasonable than me!! I'm guessing it's also the reason I got such cheap flights because its not the sunniest time to go 😅
I'm just going to keep off the weather forecast sites there's no point in looking I can't control it, I just need to make sure I pop an umbrella into my case!! The rosè is still going to taste the same no matter what the weather is!!!

I don't think it's worth getting worried this far ahead . Forecasts past the next 7 days invariably change by the time the days actually approach .
