To think I can't wear the clothes I want because of a fat stomach?

I've always put weight on around my middle. I'm a size 10/12 and quite slim everywhere else but my stomach just looks huge.

When I wear jeans and a top I can't tuck it in because it makes me look pregnant.

I've ended up just wearing baggy jumpers and tops all the time, which I feel rubbish in.

Does anyone have any advice on what to wear?

How could you be unreasonable? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Following with interest as I’m the same

Americano75 · 29/04/2023 18:09

I feel your pain, except my issue is back fat. 🤢

CindersAgain · 29/04/2023 18:10

Tops that are skimming and short enough to not need tucking in, but long enough to cover your tummy.

NightIsYoungSoAreWe · 29/04/2023 18:10

Have you tried spanx/hold me in knickers? High waisted versions I've found can keep it all contained and makes a big difference.
Primark do good ones.

I just feel I shouldn't be so concerned about it. But, when I see myself in photos I just cringe.

I have the same issue. Now I just wear big pants and get on with it and i actually feel good and confident now. Regret wasting good years of my life hiding myself. but it’s very hard so not minimising that for you!

HoneyIShrunkThePizza · 29/04/2023 18:13

Have you had children? Could you have diastasis recti possibly?

Sparkop · 29/04/2023 18:13

As for what to wear, I have a small waist and actually found confidence in high waisted trousers, that emphasised my waist rather than my stomach and a tight top. Also skater dresses and anything with a belt around the waist.

Yes, I used to live in peplum tops, but I feel they're very dated now! Desperately seeking an alternative!

I know what you mean. I wish I could just not care about it.

I mean this sort of length. Possibly a bit less voluminous if you want though! You need to keep an eye out. They are there.

I have been pregnant a few times, but no children unfortunately.

I am a similar size to you, and normally my stomach isn’t too bad (bigger than I’d like 😂), however when I go drinking I get really bloated really fast, so have to think on about not wearing clingy clothes. I have a couple of nice long sleeved tops which skim rather than cling, from Vera moda, which look good with jeans. Hush is also really good for skimming tops and dresses. I think that’s the secret, you don’t want to go out looking like you’re wearing a tent, but for me I choose skimming items and never tuck anything in!

RubbishClaimsToFame · 29/04/2023 18:29

Also worth giving stitch fix a go if you’re stuck in a bit of a rut. I’ve had some lovely things from there which I’d have never chosen myself if I saw them in a shop, but actually look really good on me. You do a style quiz so they know what kind of things you do or don’t like, and can set your budget, as well as leave a note for the stylist to explain any issues you have or special events coming up. I have this problem and I’m tall so tops don’t even cover me properly.

Shirt dresses tend to be really flattering with a tie waist, try and draw attention to your waist or arms.

Yellowrosesmakemehappy · 29/04/2023 18:32

Also long black vest top with jeans and a lighter blazer if you still want some colour.

Ghostdreammove · 29/04/2023 18:37

I have a similar issue and have recently just started sizing up - so buying the 12 not the 10 - things just seem to look a bit better . Roman do some nice trousers etc which I’ve also been happier tucking things in to as they have a higher waist

Needathickskin · 29/04/2023 18:38

Re diastasis recti - I have the same problem as the OP but I had my last child 3 years ago, so assumed that wouldn't be the case.

yumscrumfatbum · 29/04/2023 18:40

Try layering a longer vest under your top. I find this draws the eye away from my rounded middle!

Sorry to say - I’m still suffering with an awful stomach due to diastatic recti that developed 10 years ago! I don’t think it goes away. My pysio friend recently confirmed they are still very much seperated. Despite my efforts!
