To think I can't wear the clothes I want because of a fat stomach?

I've always put weight on around my middle. I'm a size 10/12 and quite slim everywhere else but my stomach just looks huge.

When I wear jeans and a top I can't tuck it in because it makes me look pregnant.

I've ended up just wearing baggy jumpers and tops all the time, which I feel rubbish in.

Does anyone have any advice on what to wear?

Have you tried spanx/hold me in knickers? High waisted versions I've found can keep it all contained and makes a big difference.
Primark do good ones.

How do you breathe, eat or digest anything in those things? And they just make your middle look like a solid barrel.

I like that one! Is that from m&s too?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, nice to know I'm not alone!

I’m the same shape as you and find dresses tend to be more flattering on me than tops with jeans. If I wear jeans/trousers/skirts then high-waisted ones suit me more. I find I can tuck things into high-waisted clothes without feeling like my belly looks too big whereas I look pregnant if I try to do the same with lower waisted items.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 29/04/2023 19:10

I have a big bust as well as a big belly, so tops that skim just make me look huge! I bought this recently from Sosander and have had lots of compliments. It comes in different plain colours too.

Picture didn't attach... I'll try again...

Where is this photo/top from please?

Xrays · 29/04/2023 20:06

I’m the same. I look like Mrs Potatohead with two twiggy legs sticking out the bottom. I know a lot of it with me is separated stomach muscles that I can’t fix and eating too much in all honesty. Not a helpful reply I know but you’re not alone.

Shein I’m afraid.

Minniem2020 · 29/04/2023 20:09

I have this problem too. I had my 3rd baby a year ago but my stomach still looks like I'm pregnant. I'm just making myself look frumpy with baggy tops and jumpers and wondering what I'm going to wear if the weather ever gets warmer.

OwlsDance · 29/04/2023 20:11

Have a look at this video, she does some other ones about different body shapes

unvillage · 29/04/2023 20:49

Honestly no one is looking at your stomach. I'm a size 22 with a large belly and even at that weight I just can't live my life trying to hide it all the time. At size 10 no one remotely cares, please stop worrying.

Cooknook · 29/04/2023 20:52

Every body type has clothes that suit and don't suit their shape. Of course this doesn't mean that people shouldn't wear these things if they want to, but if you're not comfortable then makes sense to find stuff that does flatter and makes you feel good!

Would something that goes in at your waist be comfortable? Wrap dresses etc?

OP, try not to care. It’s easier said than done, I know, as it’s taken me a long time to reach this stage.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting clothes that are flattering to your figure. But you say you feel rubbish in the clothes you use to hide your tummy anyway.
When I think about the people that love me, my husband, my friends, my son, none of them love me any less when I’m bloated, or when my arms wobble a little, or when the skin on my thighs dimple with cellulite. I find reminding myself of this is really helpful when I start to self deprecate. At a size 10/12 you’re clearly not hugely overweight and I can bet that no one else even notices your tummy.

AllotmentTime · 30/04/2023 08:13

Same OP. Not helped by small boobs which do nothing to de-emphasise the big tum. So it sticks out even more by proportion and I basically look pregnant. Have been asked before if I was (thanks MIL).

Following for ideas!! Anyone got any recommendations of the pants which hold it all in?

Zanatdy · 30/04/2023 08:16

I’m the same. In covid lockdown 1 and 2 I lost nearly 2 stone and felt great. Trying to get back down (as I regained it). I am living in leggings at the moment and some of my work shirts don’t make my stomach look too bad. It’s horrible when all your weight goes to your stomach, my mums the same. She weighs 7.5 stone or less but has a huge stomach

Ilkleymoor · 30/04/2023 08:30

Try shirt dresses and loose jumpsuits like monki.

ProseccoOnIce · 30/04/2023 08:47

Same here - post-menopausal & I look pregnant & don't have decent arms/ legs either - am short & have big boobs with slim calves - I feel like like a barrel.

I have found midi dresses help, and wear high rise magic slim jeans from M&S. V-neck tops too.

pumpkintits · 30/04/2023 08:54

I feel the same however for me it's my upper arms, they are hideous. 8 am overweight but even when I was a healthy weight they were huge, the type where you see massive Fat overhang from the elbow upwards.

I don't wear anything sleeveless, and the sleeve has to be down to the elbow at least. I am dreading our foreign holiday (first one in 11 years!) because I can't find anything to wear!!

CornishGem1975 · 30/04/2023 08:56

I have the same issue, the tops tucked in look ridiculous and most tops aren't long enough to hang as I want them to go over my crotch area.

Hedjwitch · 30/04/2023 09:03

I have a fat middle but even bigger boobs,so things that skim just hang off my boobs and make me look even bigger!
