Any bread type healthy bake I can replace my morning staple of white bread and butter? I go through weeks on bran flakes but always return to toast. Anything delicious that wouldn't feel like second prize?x

A bit of toast for breakfast isn’t particularly bad is it?
A healthier alternative could be toasted granary with mashed avocado or a thin spread of peanut butter?
I don’t think toast needs to be demonised!

purplecorkheart · 13/04/2023 20:11

I cannot see the hard of a couple of slices of bread with butter. Personally I would go for toasted soda bread or toasted sour dough purely because it is yum and butter is a hell of a lot less processed than most butter replacement. Wholemeal bread is also another good option. Assuming your diet is healthy I would enjoy your toast.

coodawoodashooda · 13/04/2023 20:20

Oh. I hadn't at all expected support for the toast. Okay then. Think I will continue to enjoy it. Thanks!

Stick with the toast.

Frenchfancy · 13/04/2023 20:27

Toast is the food of the Gods.

SophieJo · 13/04/2023 20:27

Smothered in crunchy peanut butter!

stairgates · 13/04/2023 20:27

Im the same, toast every morning and it sets me up for a day of bingeing on crap as it bloats me and then I keep eating to comfort myself. But it tastes so nice.

cocksstrideintheevening · 13/04/2023 20:30

I skip breakfast means I'm not hungry until later in the afternoon. If I eat toast for breakfast I'm hungry again by 10am

noworklifebalance · 13/04/2023 20:31

I bloody love toast with lashings of butter and marmite. I can imagine when I am in my 70’s I will be eating toast for 3 meals-a-day and will be completely malnourished

Smothered in crunchy peanut butter!

Someone's been eating my crunchy peanut butter.
I must order some more.

God I love toast.

coodawoodashooda · 13/04/2023 20:45

I'm amazed. I thought youd all be slating me for a lack of wholesome food. I used to eat brown bread but now just can't help but buy white. It's too delicious.

I would say one slice of toast with lashings of butter is better for you than two with a bit of butter. So maybe start there.

Shekissedagirlandshelikedit · 13/04/2023 21:07

Oh stick with the toast, op. I too love white toast but have managed to wean myself onto Jacksons Bloomin' both which is lovely. I have marmite on weekdays and baked beans or scrambled egg on toast at the weekends.

Who remembers this classic

Life without toast is no life at all!

Tabitha888 · 13/04/2023 21:17

Oh girl don't give up the toast! Cashew nut butter for me ladies

Luredbyapomegranate · 13/04/2023 21:46

There’s nothing wrong with a bit of toast

You could always go whole meal Monday to Friday if you want

Lcb123 · 13/04/2023 21:46

not being rude but sliced bread is so ultra processed. I’d switch to porridge or yogurt and fruit, or scrambled egg and mushrooms

Screwedupworld · 13/04/2023 21:50

Stick with the toast. Personally I hate white bread so have brown. When I lived alone, toast was my go too meal morning noon and night some days 😅

Why not just better quality bread?? The OP likes Toast.

snowlady4 · 13/04/2023 21:52

Could you reduce to one slice (I'm presuming you have 2 slices?,)and have a bowl of fruit/yogurt with it.
Or maybe a crumpet?

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 13/04/2023 21:53

Get a bread maker.

make your own bread.

Feel virtuous and eat all the toast.

ask the ‘it’s so ultra processed’ people if they bake their own bread.

Feel superior and eat more toast.

You need to try Aldi's malted bloomer. It can soak up more butter than other breads.

Glorianna · 13/04/2023 21:57

I low carb so haven’t had toast since last year!

I have full fat Greek yoghurt with raspberries almonds, or poached eggs with avocado and mushrooms.

Jellybean23 · 13/04/2023 21:58

You could try the 'best of both' type loaf - tastes like white but has added fibre. Yum.

SunscreenCentral · 13/04/2023 22:04

The problem with toast is that it's so moreish and my impulse control in the morning is poor, so I don't have any.

Sometimes at the weekend, with lime & cardamom marmalade & black coffee.
