To be annoyed about Wet Wipes ban

I have never put them down the toilet, but because too many stupid people do, I will no longer be able to clean my bum hole properly!
And don't have a large bathroom so there's no space for a bidet, before anyone suggests it.

Why are some on here ranting as if wet wipes are going to cease to exist entirely??

As I understand it only those which include plastic in the wipes are being banned, or have I got it wrong?

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 06/04/2023 09:31

Because they don't read beyond the headlines BMW6, and the headlines don't go into the nuances.

@GeneHuntsCowboyBoots i think I’d like to try this as I’ve been thinking what a waste TP is of resources. I use A LOT due to IBS

can I just ask, how do you position yourself that poop water doesn’t drip to lady parts? That’s my only concern.

You just aim for where you want it and squeeze the water out at bit at a time so even if it wasn’t in the quite the right place the first time you just adjust. Some people use them after childbirth and do use it in the perineal area too.

If you’re just aiming at your bottom it will just go straight in the loo with no cross contamination. And even if you were using it for your vaginal area, it would hit there first and flow down, if that makes sense.

I initially used it for mobility but I also have IBS and it’s an absolute godsend for that, especially when I go through bouts of diarrhoea.

You used cloth nappies, but didn't wash them in a washing machine?

I washed them in the washing machine after sanitising them in a bucket with napisan.

It was hard work to be honest, you'd better believe I switched to disposibles after a few weeks with twins....But I did try!

I do my bit, I recycle, I don't own a car, but we have one life and I will not walk around with a shite encrusted anus to SAve ThE PLAneT....

@HairyMcHairyFace oh gosh ,your poor bottom ,sounds awful .Big sympathy .FlowersDaffodilFlowers

rileynexttime · 06/04/2023 11:16

And much the same to carers .Cleaning up poo is no fun ,especially if it's someone you are or were close to .Top tip I was given was that humming can help if the aroma is particularly pungent .

The planets dying but my convenience takes absolute priority

PlantTrees21 · 06/04/2023 11:32

You dont have a clue, you are using single use plastics contributing the destruction of nature to benefit yourself just a minutiae. These do not get recycled, at best they go to landfill, worst they end up in the sea. We need to stop consuming so much crap that benefits ourselves at the expense of the world we live in and wet wipes are an awful example of humans refusing to think of anyrhjng but our convenience.

Make my life as a carer even harder?? Well fuck you then i shall down tools and social care can do it.

Be careful what you wish for.

Wonder how well this news would have gone down three years ago during Covid paranoia. And the hard left eco warriors were some of the biggest mask zealots. Anyone remember how disposable masks littered everywhere and got tangled round wildlife? Course you dont. Cos you dont want to!!!!

Fair point, I didn't like that either and used washable masks

Thank you. It's not much fun! It's pretty well controlled these days thanks to medication and diet and I haven't shat myself in public for years so it's mainly ok.

I have a bowel condition. I normally just use loo paper but if I'm having a flare up and doing upwards of 15 shits a day I need something softer. When you're basically just shitting acid and your hole is so sore it's cracked and bleeding paper just exacerbates the pain. I have vomited from the pain of wiping on more than one occasion. I prefer to use reusable wipes personally then pat dry with a soft towel but I know other people with bowel conditions who use water or disposable wipes.
Not to mention the people for whom this is religious or cultural.

I suffer from severe bile acid malabsorption. I hear you. I don't usually use wipes though, but something softer would definitely make life easier.

Sometimes I poo so hard it literally bursts a blood vessel, and it bleeds 😧(been checked out) or the repeated wiping with dry loo roll makes my hole bleed too. Trust me, the pain at times like this the bloody (no pun intended) is the least of your goddamn worries.....

Maple2023 · 07/04/2023 16:58

@allmyliesaretrue try hydromol ointment on toilet roll, it's fine to wash with or use as an emollient and you don't need much at all
Amazon sells it

Twillow · 07/04/2023 17:02

You are being ridiculous. So many other possible options given here. What's so special about your bumhole that ordinary toilet paper is insufficient anyway? Personally I'm irate it's taken so long to do something about them.

Thank you, I I will definitely try that. I also have lichen sclerosis so it's all a bit yuck downstairs! I already wash with Dermol and get it on prescription - maybe it would work on loo roll too?

Problem is they can't get rid of them totally as they're used for care, and often bought by the family due to funding etc
Some people would use toilet roll first but often people are cleaned fully with wipes as the family don't want the washing from flannels etc or don't have a machine at home

Maple2023 · 07/04/2023 17:06

@allmyliesaretrue I don't see why not! Anything that's safe to use as an emollient. Baby lotion is ok but a bit runny Grin
I have hydromol as I get a split at the very top of my bum/bottom of my back and it solves that

rileynexttime · 07/04/2023 17:54

hydromol ointment on toilet roll this is also what I do .

HumanBurrito · 07/04/2023 18:00

fucking hell we are all going to die in a climate apocalypse in twenty years because people can't fucking face giving up fucking wet fucking wipes

JenniferBooth · 07/04/2023 18:18

People do not give a fuck about how womens parts are affected By anything.
I started a thread about Sylk lube being recalled and i got one reply.

LuvSmallDogs · 07/04/2023 18:21

I remember finding it a bit weird when Andrex wipes and those frog mascot toilet training wipes (can't remember the name) became a thing and you started seeing them around in people's toilets - why? We'd been fine with baby wipes for nappies then toilet roll for potty/toilet until big companies told us we weren't!

I have read PP about disabled people and get why they need them, but I suspect most purchasers would be fine using bog roll.

And no, it's not like wiping shit off your arm with paper - your bits and butt are covered with underwear, specifically to stop secretions and residue contaminating outer clothes or anything else. I've never accidentally brushed against someone's naked arse crack while passing them in a crowded corridor, have you?🙄

HumanBurrito · 07/04/2023 19:25

And I'll tell you something else for free: that wype stuff is egregious greenwashing shite. Does the same job as water but comes chock full of chemicals in an aluminium can. Extra energy for manufacturing, transport, and water treatment. They've got a nerve calling themselves the green alternative to wipes.
