My youngest sister is 15 weeks pregnant with her PFB and I find myself having to bite my tongue constantly with the nonsense she is spouting. All of a sudden she is a child rearing goddess after read half a parenting book, I really wish I could tell her to shut the fuck up and that I’ve managed to get my eldest child to 16 years old without her helpful hints. Her comments about how she would never feed her PFB junk food like I was preparing when I was cooking a quick dinner after activities last night nearly saw me commit murder with a spatula.

The meal in question was tacos, quick easy and nutritious I thought but the way she went on and on about junk and frozen/tinned vegetables being highly processed who knows maybe I am wrong and they are seen as junk? So Mumsnet was my quick Monday night dinner as unhealthy as she made out? We don’t get home until just gone 7:30pm on Mondays and I can get this to the table in 20ish minutes and it’s eaten without complaint by all 3 dc.

250g 5% mince beef
1 tin of kidney beans
1 tin of mixed beans
2 tins of tomatoes
frozen sweetcorn
frozen peppers
frozen sweet potato chunks
2 red onions
1 chilli
1 packet of taco seasoning
taco shells
Each plate had a side salad on consisting of bistro salad leaves out a bag, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, peppers, radishes, celery, grated carrot and spring onion.

I should add she managed 3 taco shells of the highly processed mix without complaint.

Could we get the rest of the preparation steps, please? This sounds delicious! Star

Expecting a nursery to serve an organic breakfast and heat it over a hob and not the microwave!

Oh wowsers @Lastdanceinthedark 😆 what did the nursery say to that?? You just be a legend among staff!

VWHoliday · 28/03/2023 13:38

She is an idiot and so are the 2% who voted for her.

finalwhistle · 28/03/2023 13:17

I think you need to just not bite your tongue and tell her she's being a twat.

^This.

Imagine if she's doing this to everyone she meets, not just you - and you're the forgiving sister. Shock

Oceans1000 · 28/03/2023 13:39

She is obviously being a total idiot, you can remind her of her comments in couple of years!!!

I think you need to just not bite your tongue and tell her she's being a twat.

I agree ^ there comes a point when some people just need to be told.

Mrsjayy · 28/03/2023 13:42

So you had tacos for dinner ? Of course its not "junk," it's just dinner 🙄

cocksstrideintheevening · 28/03/2023 13:42

Emu sister was like this when she was pregnant, no plastic toys, no electronics, weaning with no jars / pouches you get the gist.

Her kid was exclusively weaned on pouches, plastic toys everywhere, they get handed an iPad in the pram...

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 28/03/2023 13:43

I got the absolute piss taken out of me by my sisters the other day, reminding me what a dickhead I was with my PFB 😂

My daughter is 14 now and I honestly forgot half of what they reminded me I was like, but I could well believe every word.

I was cringing.

I'm sure your sister will look back in years to come and laugh at herself. I must have been insufferable.

Nosleepforthismum · 28/03/2023 13:43

We all had good intentions when pregnant with our PFB Grin

Smile and nod and know that in a few years time she’ll be in potato smiley hell like the rest of us. I was probably a PFB wanker as well but this morning I gave my 18 month old a chocolate croissant to eat while watching peppa pig so I could just have one coffee in peace. My parenting standards dropped rapidly once I actually had a child.

Allschoolsareartschools · 28/03/2023 13:43

Blimey, I think you made a fab meal especially after activities!
Don't worry about your sister, you'll be laughing last & longest for many years...😉

Dixiechickonhols · 28/03/2023 13:47

That sounds lovely. Tinned and frozen veg are great.
I’d have been tempted to not serve her any just a glass of water and sit eating. She wouldn’t want to eat ‘junk’ when she’s pregnant.

suzyscat · 28/03/2023 13:48

Don't let her bother you. Have a good chuckle now and just wait smugly for reality to come crashing down over the years. It's quite easy to maintain smug with one toddler tbf but it's unlikely to last forever.

elp30 · 28/03/2023 13:48

OP, your sister is a fool.

I'm Mexican and we eat tacos all the freaking time! It's full of protein, full of vegetables and full on flavor. We eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I've been eating them my entire life.

Tacos are life! A good one indeed!

Allschoolsareartschools · 28/03/2023 13:49

I miss the time before I had kids. I was such a good mum back then.
Haha, brilliant!!

inappropriateraspberry · 28/03/2023 13:32

Show her American food - that's junk! Canned cheese, tins of chicken breast, instant everything. All processed and packaged in tins, boxes, tubes or blocks. 🤢

Excuse me but that's rude.

Sure, many American families eat junky food but for the most part, Americans eat pretty varied food that don't include those food stuffs.

NeedToChangeName · 28/03/2023 13:51

It's best not to limit red meat to once per week. And taco seasoning may contain quite a bit of salt. And taco shells aren't especially healthy

But, it's part of a balanced meal with plenty legumes and vegetables, so I think it's fine

Nod and smile

Your DSis will see the light eventually

Intergalacticcatharsis · 28/03/2023 13:51

Get a notebook, write down all her crazy comments with a date in quotation marks… Then when her DC is a teen, read it out loud over a night out. It will be hilarious!

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 28/03/2023 13:16

So many bonkers food threads on MN at the moment.

Clearly your dinner was not junk food.

But please tell me you also served cheese and sour cream?

and jalapeños surely ?!?!

KatherineJaneway · 28/03/2023 13:56

That is a perfectly fine dinner. She's being sanctimonious.

Just you wait until the reality of having a baby sinks in, she'll soon change her tune!

FluffyUnionSocks · 28/03/2023 13:58

@Abouttimemum The sweet potato chunks are great for things like tacos, chillis and chucking in stews 20 minutes before it’s cooked. It says you can roast them but I haven’t tried doing that as use fresh sweet potato for that because the chunks are quite small the bag contains less and costs more than a bag of fresh ones.

Your sister should immediately start massaging her nipples and vagina twice a day with propolis, honey and beeswax.

I absolutely guarantee that by the time her baby is born, Sis will be a Queen Bee.

Dashel · 28/03/2023 14:05

I was once accused to trying to give my DH cancer. We were having the ooo what do I fancy for dinner so I said we are having oven chips and veggie burgers and this woman started going on about how carcinogenic oven chips are and asked if I was after his life insurance.

I was about to admit my crime and reply sarcastically when I saw my boss and thought I should rise above it. My accuser was well known for being argumentative.

I had visions of Hercule Poirot solving the case of Death In The Oven.

Allmyplantsdie · 28/03/2023 14:07

You are being unreasonable calling that a quick dinner. It sounds like a feast….oh and healthy too.
