My youngest sister is 15 weeks pregnant with her PFB and I find myself having to bite my tongue constantly with the nonsense she is spouting. All of a sudden she is a child rearing goddess after read half a parenting book, I really wish I could tell her to shut the fuck up and that I’ve managed to get my eldest child to 16 years old without her helpful hints. Her comments about how she would never feed her PFB junk food like I was preparing when I was cooking a quick dinner after activities last night nearly saw me commit murder with a spatula.

The meal in question was tacos, quick easy and nutritious I thought but the way she went on and on about junk and frozen/tinned vegetables being highly processed who knows maybe I am wrong and they are seen as junk? So Mumsnet was my quick Monday night dinner as unhealthy as she made out? We don’t get home until just gone 7:30pm on Mondays and I can get this to the table in 20ish minutes and it’s eaten without complaint by all 3 dc.

250g 5% mince beef
1 tin of kidney beans
1 tin of mixed beans
2 tins of tomatoes
frozen sweetcorn
frozen peppers
frozen sweet potato chunks
2 red onions
1 chilli
1 packet of taco seasoning
taco shells
Each plate had a side salad on consisting of bistro salad leaves out a bag, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, peppers, radishes, celery, grated carrot and spring onion.

I should add she managed 3 taco shells of the highly processed mix without complaint.

I've just emailed your receipe to myself, it sounds delicious.

Bearpawk · 28/03/2023 13:25

No, she sounds mental.
The only thing that could be arguable are the ultra processed tacos. But the rest is great.

JaniceBattersby · 28/03/2023 13:25

She’s obviously spent too much time on Mumsnet 😉

Reddickyouless · 28/03/2023 13:25

Sit on your hands and save it for when she's cramming her child with whatsits just to get 5 minutes peace

PuttingDownRoots · 28/03/2023 13:26

Its very easy to be the Perfect Parent before you have kids.

She’s absolutely ridiculous - I’d kill for my children to eat something with that much plant matter in it. Round here “junk” is pizza or fish finger and potato waffles! Ignore her, she’ll look back and cringe in a few years…

Pizza isn't junk. Fish fingers and waffles is not junk.

It's just food.

sister is a twat. She'll learn.

TenterfieldSaddler · 28/03/2023 13:27

In this case, Revenge is definitely a dish best served cold…give it 18 months-2years and you’ll be smugger than a smug thing!

Iwantmyoldnameback · 28/03/2023 13:27

Frozen veg is mainly healthier than fresh but I know myself a lot don't believe it.

Screwedupworld · 28/03/2023 13:27

Haha this sounds like a friend of mine.. her kid only eats fish fingers and chicken nuggets now.. just wait. Also your dinner sounded delicious.. definitely not junk food.

PhillySub · 28/03/2023 13:28

Show her a cookery book or show her the door.

Hillarious · 28/03/2023 13:29

Just humour her and tell her with a smile that you'll quote all this back to her when her PFB is older and reality hits.

takealettermsjones · 28/03/2023 13:29

Ah yes, the best parents are those without kids.

Nowt wrong with that meal!

discobrain · 28/03/2023 13:29

FluffyUnionSocks · 28/03/2023 13:16

@discobrain Thank you she has turned into a twat and I’m struggling to be around her currently.

I wouldn't be around her if she's going to continue being an arse.

Also I want tacos now.

BreviloquentBastard · 28/03/2023 13:29

Sounds great to me. She'll be singing a different tune when she's sleep deprived and leaking desperately trying to heat up half a can of ravioli in-between feeds.

Everyone's super mum until the baby actually arrives!

JenniferBarkley · 28/03/2023 13:30

Oh you're really going to enjoy seeing her Perfect Parenting meeting a Real Life Child Grin

Abouttimemum · 28/03/2023 13:30

I bet her DC won’t be watching any screens until they are 25 either. She’ll learn, bite your tongue in the meantime.

out of interest what are the frozen sweet potato chunks like? I’ve never had them but I feel like I need them in my freezer!

toastofthetown · 28/03/2023 13:30

If her concern with junk food was tinned and frozen vegetables then she’s wrong. Frozen vegetables can be more nutritious than fresh because they are flash frozen at source, before there is time for the food to degrade. They aren’t what any extort would call ultra processed food. If her concern is the taco shells and packet mix, then they probably are UPF which some would want to avoid altogether. Either way she’s rude for commenting, whether you were serving organic fresh vegetables on brown rice, or nuggets, waffles and beans.

Abouttimemum · 28/03/2023 13:31

Also we’ve been away this weekend and DS aged 4 has basically eaten chips and burgers (and ice cream!)

inappropriateraspberry · 28/03/2023 13:32

Show her American food - that's junk! Canned cheese, tins of chicken breast, instant everything. All processed and packaged in tins, boxes, tubes or blocks. 🤢

incitethismeetingtorebellion · 28/03/2023 13:32

Ah I remember when I was pregnant with my first and she was going to be fed fresh, home cooked meals every night. No tinned or processed food whatsoever. She would recoil in horror at the mere mention of chicken nuggets. Now I have a 2 year old who won't eat anything unless there's a river of ketchup involved.
I miss the time before I had kids. I was such a good mum back then.

@discobrain Thank you she has turned into a twat and I’m struggling to be around her currently.

She’s going to come crashing down to earth. Oh how we’ll laugh.

Jazsimone · 28/03/2023 13:35

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA

Her time will fucking come, when she is ramming a chocolate biscuit in her child's mouth so she can eat her "out of the freezer" pizza.

Lastdanceinthedark · 28/03/2023 13:36

Haha I remember suffering from pfb syndrome, only organic would do and freshly made. I wince at the memories! Expecting a nursery to serve an organic breakfast and heat it over a hob and not the microwave!
now she eats all sorts and with my second I’m much more chill. I was ridiculous and I’m sure she’ll feel the same one day

JeanMarsh · 28/03/2023 13:36

Haha, it’s easy be the perfect parent before you actually have a child, never mind 3. Once she has experienced sleep deprivation for a few months she will cop herself on.
