Everything was huge and metal, I remember a massive rocking horse we would rock so it would stand up

I remember the type you could fit a dozen kids on if your were brave enough, and the bigger kids would have to hold on to the smaller ones so they didn't fly off.

There's one in a park near me. Doesn't move as fast as I remember though!

Jellykat · 09/03/2023 20:34

Yes yes to the dangerous playground equipment!
The slide in Battersea Park was huge, as was the 6 child metal rocking horse especially when practically vertical Grin

The speaking clock

Toilet paper that was scratchy slippery brown paper

TooBigForMyBoots · 09/03/2023 20:35

Outside toilets.
Everyone using the neighbour's phone.
Smoking. Everywhere! We were even allowed to smoke in our 6th form Common Room at school.Shock
Road games like Cribby and skipping.
Lamppost swings.

I wish I could add Police Brutality and being trapped in a bombed building.

ghostyslovesheets · 09/03/2023 20:35

Not having a phone in the house. Any phone. Having to use public phone boxes to call anyone.

DorritLittle · 09/03/2023 20:36

Having a librarian stamp my book with a large clicky contraption.

Chatterboxy · 09/03/2023 20:37

Phoning telephone operator to reverse call charge.

The test card girl on the BBC shut down.

TooBigForMyBoots · 09/03/2023 20:38

I forgot The Rag and Bone Man. His wife used to make custard tarts and he'd sell them off his cart.

They were amazing custard tarts.🤗

NetballHoop · 09/03/2023 20:39

Renting the phone and the TV rather than owning them.
Going to the laundrette.
Green shield stamps.
Ring pulls on cans that you could flick to make them fly across the room.
Knowing the phone numbers of all my friends without an address book.
Address books,.

AlphaAlpha · 09/03/2023 20:40

Either queuing outside a venue or waiting in turn on the phone for hours for gig tickets.

I spent just over 4 hours on the phone to get Oasis Knebworth tickets.
In 2000, my then boyfriend queued at Wembley stadium box office for tickets to Oasis, the Familiar to Millions tour.
Lost my original bucket hat at that too.

DorritLittle · 09/03/2023 20:40

Having grandmothers who wore plastic hoods when it rained.

The coal man. A smacked bottom.

The coal man still comes around here! I see him maybe twice a year at the end of street!

Nanny0gg · 09/03/2023 20:41

Owning your own house

GlassBunion · 09/03/2023 20:42

Getting a thrupenny bit for pocket money.

Buying Disco 45 or Words for the lyrics to the top hits of the day.

Getting slapped.

Getting 2p worth of sweets in a paper bag.

Dense smoke hazes at the cinema.

Mary, Mungo and Midge.
