I've got a disability that just isn't a thing anymore, medical advances mean people nowadays with cataracts have day surgery and can see pretty much fine afterwards.

Also ordering band merch by sending a cheque to a PO box with a filled in slip from a magazine. just hoping they will send something back in the next 6 weeks. I also remember paying for things and receiving cheques as payment from Ebay in the early days.

I climbed Uluru (Ayers Rock). Not permitted now

Phonecards, not just the ones that had an amount on them that reduced when you used them in any call box, but the ones that represented an account on a local network that could tot up both calls and internet connection. They required you to ring an international number, then enter around 53 different digits in the form of long number and PIN before eventually you could dial the number you were intending.

A lesson in precision!

Oh, and Little Chef and Happy Eater being most of your options if you were driving on holiday or a long trip. Turn off for the pancakes, stay for the scary plastic tree play equipment...

Kids TV being on for only 1 hour a day!
Trying to record songs off the radio without the DJ's voice interrupting at the end.
Hanging around outside a phone box to make a call, pre mobile phones.
Having to do that thing with debit or credit card payments when you worked in a shop, where you had to put it in that machine to take a copy of it,rather than the customer just tapping it on the reader.
Writing a cheque!

Working in an office with a pile of work on one side of your desk and an ashtray on the other. Smoking on the top deck of a double decker bus. Smoking at the cinema.

How did anyone survive the 1970s?

The staff canteen at my husband's first employers was licenced, meaning anyone could (and some did) drink at lunchtime - then went back to work on their huge dangerous engineering machines 😳

Backpacking without a mobile phone or any real access to the internet - having to use travel books and printed timetables instead.
