AIBU to think the last thing we need at the moment is snow?!

Semi lighthearted, but also some serious points.

Insta perfect snowmen aside, another cold spell when we’re heading into mid March isn’t ideal, is it? Lots of people will be freezing cold in their homes again, having had some respite where it’s been a bit warmer. Snow and ice causing problems in transport affecting work and plans. Risk of more falls on the ice which will not help ab already stretched (understatement!) NHS.

I know I’m BU. Kids love it. Etc. But I’m already over it. Anyone else?

You cannot control when snow decides to fall. All you can control is your reaction to it.
I love snow.

PurpleFlower1983 · 08/03/2023 21:02

Well there’s not much we can do about it and it’s been a pretty mild winter so far.

HoldingTheDoor · 08/03/2023 21:02

YANBU. I despise the bloody stuff and it makes it near impossible for me to get out.

Igenix4 · 08/03/2023 21:06

I'm actually enjoying it, took my kids out to play in the snow this afternoon, I'm extremely fortunate to be in a position to keep the heating on overnight as we're forecast -9°c tonight. Gritters have been out every night this week in my local area, I absolutely adore winter weather and we didn't have a really bad winter so this slightly makes up for it

TheSnowyOwl · 08/03/2023 21:07

It is the only snow we have had so far this winter though. Whilst I am looking forward to the summer, I don’t begrudge us having one snowy week.

mickeysmug · 08/03/2023 21:11

I don't know if I'm waking up tomorrow to nothing or Armageddon.

ibuymeownflowers · 08/03/2023 21:12

I loved it.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 08/03/2023 21:13

Well, you don't get snow because you need snow.

Thankfully at this time of year it's not too disheartening because you know it can't last long!

Crumbcatcher · 08/03/2023 21:14

I only like snow if I don't have to go out in it. But school run and work, ugh!

Enthrallingstoryofstillness · 08/03/2023 21:15

Er you know you don't actually get a choice? It being the weather n all

VivienneDelacroix · 08/03/2023 21:18

I hate snow. I've tried to put in a complaint about it but not one department will take responsibility for it. I went to the top, complained to God, and She said to just be thankful it's not 40 days of locusts.

backinthebox · 08/03/2023 21:18

I think we all need to write to the person in charge of the weather and tell them the last thing we need right now is snow!

x2boys · 08/03/2023 21:21

Well im.not keen either and it's cold ,but what do you suggested do.about it?
March comes in like a lion and out as a lamb as they say 👃

early30smum · 08/03/2023 21:23

Obviously I know we don’t get a choice, nor can control it. Just an unexpected nuisance for March. Mind you, I remember that ‘Beast from the East’ happened in March, so I shouldn’t be too surprised.

On a serious note though I just feel bad for those struggling already with heating costs, I have a baby and he’s teething and has a cold, I was truly grateful I can afford to put the heating up today for him.

Has anyone blamed Brexit yet ?
normally posters blame everything on Brexit.

Floralnomad · 08/03/2023 21:24

Send it SE , I wouldn’t mind being snowed in for a few days and all we are getting is rain .

SecretVictoria · 08/03/2023 21:24

Hate it. Should be starting to get warmer and brighter now. I’m dreading the possibility of having to drive in it 😢

icanneverthinkofnc · 08/03/2023 21:25

No chance here on South Coast.. just cold rain..I'd rather walk the dog in snow than cold rain. house smells of wet 🐕😖

Choconut · 08/03/2023 21:25

I didn't want snow but when it arrived I was a actually quite pleased as it broke up the grey drizzly miserableness of winter. Hopefully it will now go away again quickly and spring is hiding just around the corner.

Im.in the northwest it's not even the exciting sticking snow just the cold little bits of snow 😥

It is the only snow we have had so far this winter though. Whilst I am looking forward to the summer, I don’t begrudge us having one snowy week.

Here in my part of the NW we had snow on 17th Jan.
I hate snow.
More importantly I hate the fact that it is my sons 21st birthday tomorrow and he gets the train home in the afternoon to celebrate with us in the evening. I really hope our plans aren't fucked up. I will have a LOT of cake and doughnuts to eat otherwise!
The last time I remembered it snowing near his birthday was when he was 4. It snowed the day before and his poor father had to build his birthday present in the snow! A massive wooden slide/swing/climbing frame set. Poor guy! I was on childminding duties 😁.

whenindoubtgotothelibrary · 08/03/2023 21:43

I don't think it's been a particularly mild winter. We haven't had much snow but it went down to -7 in London in December and we had temps not far off that in January and Feb. I've lost quite a few tender plants in the garden, which never normally happens. I remember it snowed in London in late March in 2013 though; that was a much snowier year.

LemonRedwood · 08/03/2023 21:46

Just an unexpected nuisance for March

It's really not unexpected in March in the UK. Statistically, we're more likely to have snow on an Easter weekend than at Christmas.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/03/2023 21:49

@early30smum, in 2000 it snowed for several days at the end of April. We loved on a hill on the edge of Sheffield and had the phone number of the snow plough man.

eurochick · 08/03/2023 21:51

My daffs had just started flowering. They are most displeased.
