Semi lighthearted, but also some serious points.

Insta perfect snowmen aside, another cold spell when we’re heading into mid March isn’t ideal, is it? Lots of people will be freezing cold in their homes again, having had some respite where it’s been a bit warmer. Snow and ice causing problems in transport affecting work and plans. Risk of more falls on the ice which will not help ab already stretched (understatement!) NHS.

I know I’m BU. Kids love it. Etc. But I’m already over it. Anyone else?

I love snow but I really could have done without the DCs’ school being closed again ( I don’t blame the school at all, but it’s extremely hard to work in between what feels like constant weather closures and strikes)
It will all be worth it when we go skiing this weekend though!

Icequeen01 · 09/03/2023 06:27

When I was at secondary school in the mid 70s we had snow in June in Essex!

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 09/03/2023 06:42

Like everyone else has said, snow in March is pretty normal.

I used to work a 40 minute drive away over the fells and the only times I've never made it due to snow is in early spring!

Singleandproud · 09/03/2023 06:50

Move to Norfolk we rarely get snow (or rain), and when it does it rarely sticks around - Beast from the East being an exception.

Has anyone blamed Brexit yet ?
normally posters blame everything on Brexit.

I was going to blame the Tories, but that's a better thing to blame.

LlynTegid · 09/03/2023 07:16

Snow in March is normal. What was unusual was the mild temperatures in part of February.

Calmdown14 · 09/03/2023 07:33

Snow in March is easier though. We had a lot on Tuesday but it disappears quickly (unlike December) with the slightly longer days.

It's not the same as putting up with the frozen aftermath for weeks and weeks

ByeByeMr · 09/03/2023 07:35

No snow here. Just frost.

Badbudgeter · 09/03/2023 07:37

I think with heating costs lots of people were breathing a sigh of relief that winter was over. My hot water tank has sprung a leak and the boiler is refusing to work without it so it’s not ideal timing.

MargaretThursday · 09/03/2023 07:38

I expect it is all the fault of the people who voted tory, isn't it?

Hopper123 · 09/03/2023 07:39

It's really normal to have snow at this time of year my birthday is beginning of March and my daughters is next week and throughout my life I've had snow on my birthday as has she. Although that might depend on where you live as we are very northern. Not unreasonable to be fed up of it though I always think in the run up to Christmas snow is magical after Christmas it's just annoying.

DownNative · 09/03/2023 06:21

Statistically, we're more likely to get snow in March than December or January.....according to last night's BBC weather forecaster.

Thinking about it, yes. I remember snow in march in last 15 years rather than dec!

HeadInAShed · 09/03/2023 07:41

We have more than a few problems going on so ordinarily yet another problem would be the absolute last straw, but I’ll take nature’s problems like snow over human made problems any day.

I just try to put all the other shit out of my head for a few minutes and enjoy the beauty and the deadened sound. It’s mostly melted here now though.

I love snow ⛄️

Hopper123 · 09/03/2023 07:42

Actually normal to get snow in March my birthday is in March and I've often had snow on my birthday although obviously depends where you live but to me I fully expect it. It's not unreasonable to be fed up of it though. I always think in the run up to Christmas snow is magical after Christmas it's just annoying.

Herja · 09/03/2023 07:57

I love the snow, but I wish it hadn't waited until after the last gvt. heating subsidy payment. Without the £67, I can't afford heating at all - felt pretty shit telling the kids it couldn't go on with snow on the ground.

A snowy march seems about right though. It's snowed every march here (South West) for a few years in a row now. And I did get to have a lovely blizzardy walk yesterday morning.

Well there’s not much we can do about it and it’s been a pretty mild winter so far.

Where? Scotland has had so many days in a row of below zero temperatures, I still have to defrost my car every time I need to be in the office. We were on holiday in the North of England in December and the whole week we were between. Minus 9 and minus 4, I feel this winter has been colder than the last 10 at least.

Well, I'm in Cumbria and it's been mild for weeks now - it was 12 degrees the other day!

cocksstrideintheevening · 09/03/2023 16:06

Snow in March is normal, in the last week I've had two lots of fb snow memories pop up from different years. I don't think we have ever had December snow here in SE.

5128gap · 09/03/2023 16:12

I know exactly what you mean OP. It's been a long slog of a winter. Lots of bugs going around, heating costs, and after the mild weather a couple of weeks ago and the lighter evenings, it looked like things were looking up. It's very disappointing. Your point about accidents is important too. Unless people visit hospitals recently/regularly it can be difficult to imagine just how bad the crisis is. It's a very bad time to have an accident or for vulnerable people to suffer the effects of the cold.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 08/03/2023 21:53

I also remember snow in April. I forget which year. Some time in the 00's though.

@ThisMustBeMyDream

It snowed in the SE in April
last year.

JaneJeffer · 09/03/2023 17:12

You mean to tell me you're not snuggled under a blanket having hot chocolate @early30smum?

Lindy2 · 09/03/2023 17:19

I'm near London. We had a couple of cm of snow yesterday which looked pretty but didn't disrupt travel or anything else at all.

We're now back to rain and a bit chilly but not too bad temperatures. It's 5pm and we don't need the heating on yet but will do later.

We have crap traffic, everything is too expensive and last summer was hotter and drier than Hell on Earth (I'm already a bit afraid of summer 23). At least though we generally escape a lot of the snow.

I'm enjoying other people's snowy pictures while feeling quite relieved we just have rain right now.

User135644 · 09/03/2023 17:25

Snow and fireworks. Two things I never understand the appeal of for anyone over the age of about 10.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 09/03/2023 17:26

Quite right. Contact the snow suppliers and see if it can be swapped for sunshine.
