Semi lighthearted, but also some serious points.

Insta perfect snowmen aside, another cold spell when we’re heading into mid March isn’t ideal, is it? Lots of people will be freezing cold in their homes again, having had some respite where it’s been a bit warmer. Snow and ice causing problems in transport affecting work and plans. Risk of more falls on the ice which will not help ab already stretched (understatement!) NHS.

I know I’m BU. Kids love it. Etc. But I’m already over it. Anyone else?

I also remember snow in April. I forget which year. Some time in the 00's though.

SnottyLottie · 08/03/2023 22:04

My mum told me it snowed on her honeymoon in mid April 1981.

HowdoIgetbacktothe80s · 08/03/2023 22:09

My birthday is 19th March. It snowed on my 40th, ten years ago and it looks like it’s going to bloody do it again for my 50th! I hate the snow and the cold, grrrr!

IHaveaSetOfVeryParticularSkills · 08/03/2023 22:14

Just an unexpected nuisance for March.

It's actually not that unexpected imho.
Snow in March seems to happen every 5 years here.
Temperatures dropped last year at the beginning of March too and I believe the year before too.
It's just UK March imho

FluffytheGoldfish · 08/03/2023 22:14

My parents have their anniversary at the beginning of April and they have had more snowy anniversaries than White Christmases in their 50+ years together.
They had to cancel their honeymoon as it was so bad.

BMW6 · 08/03/2023 22:17

I'm about as far south as you can get (Southampton). We've had snow in March now and then since the 1980's.

Only a few years ago we had a severe frost in May. Killed all the young plants on the allotments.

In fact I remember a barbecue at St Catherine's Hill near Winchester around 1982 when there was a sudden really heavy snowfall at the end of May....... we were all tagged up in Hawaiian shirts and sandals.....that was funny as fuck. 😆

Meredusoleil · 08/03/2023 22:18

I remember it briefly snowed in June 1998. No-one else remembers it though and they don't believe me as a result!

LakeTiticaca · 08/03/2023 22:19

Snow in march is not particularly unusual!!

Yes you are correct!! More sleety really round our way but totally unexpected!!!

SnottyLottie · 08/03/2023 22:20

@Meredusoleil i genuinely remember it snowing in June during my childhood (in the 90s) but people always tell me I’m misremembering and it was probably in March or April. I knew it really happened!

bugsinmybrain · 08/03/2023 22:23

No choice so I accept it

I'm more annoyed today that I slept through the beautiful snow and woke up to the rain washing it all away for the rest of the day - still going

DashboardConfessional · 08/03/2023 22:24

I was a bit peed off with it this morning, when DH had to drive 2 hours north for a conference and nursery was unable to confirm if all the staff were in until 10 to 8, at which point we had to jog there in the slush so I could get to work on time. It's melted now though!

It snowed in mid-April 2013 for my grandad's funeral. The hearse got stuck. He would have been in creases.

Casilero · 08/03/2023 22:27

YANBU. I support your call for end end to snow, particularly in March, when it just doesn't look right against the crocuses and daffodils. December, yes, I can accept snow around Christmas and into January. February is pushing it. March is too much though.

I do remember a photo taken on my sisters birthday in the 70s which was at the beginning of April, with us both in our long party frocks, stood in the garden next to a SNOWMAN. In April! Its really not on 😡

girlfriend44 · 08/03/2023 23:37

Hate it, can't wait for Summer.

Thesearmsofmine · 08/03/2023 23:46

It snowed in March in 2016, I remember because I was heavily pregnant and it snowed on that dc’s birthday last year right at the end of March,

Here in my part of the NW we had snow on 17th Jan.
I hate snow.
More importantly I hate the fact that it is my sons 21st birthday tomorrow and he gets the train home in the afternoon to celebrate with us in the evening. I really hope our plans aren't fucked up. I will have a LOT of cake and doughnuts to eat otherwise!
The last time I remembered it snowing near his birthday was when he was 4. It snowed the day before and his poor father had to build his birthday present in the snow! A massive wooden slide/swing/climbing frame set. Poor guy! I was on childminding duties 😁.

it definitely snowed in March in 2018 because it was my DC’s birthday and I remember everyone turning up late because of it.

I remember that! Not completely sure of the year but remember running out onto my primary school field in the snow and it was definitely summer term!

I was born in May and it snowed. I also remember being outside with friend in the 80’s, it was warm and bc we had shirts and shirts shirts on. There was a 30 second snow shower that melted and dried up instantly and our parents wouldn’t believe us. It was a bizarre.

BashfulClam · 09/03/2023 00:28

TheSnowyOwl · 08/03/2023 21:07

It is the only snow we have had so far this winter though. Whilst I am looking forward to the summer, I don’t begrudge us having one snowy week.

We had heavy snow in mid December where I am. We had to abandon a planned break as roads were impassable.

pizzaHeart · 09/03/2023 00:35

I like snow but in March, it’s too much.
This government just can’t get anything right.

Sockloon · 09/03/2023 05:21

Mild winters are shit for a number of reasons so yes YABU. They allow pest species to thrive and we get less water.

So consider poorer crops and less food and less water availability the following year. Add that to bumper beasties that you'll get that survived a light winter.

Cantbelieveit101 · 09/03/2023 05:36

I'm in Australia and the last 5 days have been over 30 degrees.
I am ready for some cooler weather.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 09/03/2023 06:17

I’m done with the stuff. It’s been here since Halloween and it won’t be gone for at least another month, probably more like two.

At least we’ll be straight into summer. Spring doesn’t really happen here.

DownNative · 09/03/2023 06:21

early30smum · 08/03/2023 21:23

Obviously I know we don’t get a choice, nor can control it. Just an unexpected nuisance for March. Mind you, I remember that ‘Beast from the East’ happened in March, so I shouldn’t be too surprised.

On a serious note though I just feel bad for those struggling already with heating costs, I have a baby and he’s teething and has a cold, I was truly grateful I can afford to put the heating up today for him.

Statistically, we're more likely to get snow in March than December or January.....according to last night's BBC weather forecaster.
