Putting a Landseer painting in a modern bathroom

I was hoping to do my main bathroom out in Victorian style (black and white flooring, roll top bath etc) and was looking forward to my Landseer sitting proudly above the bath.

DH now wants to do the bathroom in a modern style … with this bath.

AIBU to think my Landseer now won’t fit? DH thinks it will still go well?

YANBU - That bath does not lend itself to Landseer
YABU - DH is right, it will look nice

It's a print, right ...?

ValBiro · 07/03/2023 21:18

I had to Google Landseer but I think it will still look very bold and distinct, even with a modern style, especially if you are going for a deep colour like in that pic. Go for it! It's a compromise at least...

heldinadream · 07/03/2023 21:20

Which painting? A truly classic beautiful image can work anywhere. Is it the stag?

carriedout · 07/03/2023 21:20

Think a 'painting' like that is wrong in any bathroom.

And Landseer - the dog paintings? Will look completely mad in a modern bathroom.

Idkrealorfake · 07/03/2023 21:21

Won't the humidity of the bathroom ruin a painting??

carriedout · 07/03/2023 21:21

Doesn't mean you shouldn't do it, mind.

Surely they mean a print?

RightOnTheEdge · 07/03/2023 21:22

What colour walls will you have?
I think if it was a bold colour like in the photo it would still look good.

This is Mumsnet, no guarantees...

Are you sure it’s a painting, as landseer costs thousands, no way it should be in a bathroom.

if it’s just a print, then I don’t think a bathroom is the place for a landseer unless you live in Windsor castle.

BourbonBon · 07/03/2023 21:24

Should have made it clear it’s a print, not an original! (I wish 😁)

It’s this one …

If its original I suggest you head for Sotheby's sharpish. If it's a print, why not?

Monarch of the Glen is in the hallway ☺️

Maybe OP is Camilla!

Is it DHs way of saying he doesn't like the Landseer? Grin

Shit, I never thought of that 😂 I am a bit of a fanatic, we have a few Landseer prints around the house now, maybe he’s getting sick of them 😂

😂 so funny imagining hammering an original Landseer to the bathroom wall. If only …

I did see an original up for auction a few weeks back, starting bid was £15k 😭

What's the frame style?
I'd go old-school not modern.

Denim drift (like a grey blue)

Old school bathroom?

its not framed yet so the frame can be bought to fit the bathroom. I was originally thinking of black engraved wood

I think it would look gorgeous in a modern bathroom, in an old fashioned gilt frame! You’ve given me an idea now…

TomatoSandwiches · 07/03/2023 21:33

It wouldn't have suited a bathroom anyway, put it in the kitchen or entry way.

The stag is in the entryway
Chillingham cattle on the landing
I really need something in the bathroom as it’s a bare wall otherwise

this gives me hope, I was starting to think it was a stupid idea from the start 😂

I think any picture in a bathroom would look odd to be honest, but if you like it then go for it. It would look equally odd in a modern or old-fashioned bathroom, so makes no difference.
