Putting a Landseer painting in a modern bathroom

I was hoping to do my main bathroom out in Victorian style (black and white flooring, roll top bath etc) and was looking forward to my Landseer sitting proudly above the bath.

DH now wants to do the bathroom in a modern style … with this bath.

AIBU to think my Landseer now won’t fit? DH thinks it will still go well?

YANBU - That bath does not lend itself to Landseer
YABU - DH is right, it will look nice

I think some people are imagining a typical small British bathroom when they think that pictures have no place, if you have a large bathroom with a lot of wall space freestanding bath etc, it can look fabulous, and I love the juxtaposition of old and contemporary, see attached, go for it OP who wants a bog standard bathroom when you can have this

I'm not sure a picture of a bloke where I'd expect a mirror quite works though!Grin

I don’t think they existed in these days, the Landseer dog was named after the artist

Yep.

Was a joke Grin

Bit off-topic but my Newfoundland loved posing for photos.

I mean if you want it that is fine, but IMO these images confirm my position that having a Landseer in a modern bathroom will look bad. Neither of those bathrooms look good to me, but taste is a personal matter I accept.

'trying too hard' is such an irritating criticism. Trying too hard to enjoy your own home. What a sick burn!

steppemum · 08/03/2023 12:54

well I think it would have looked amazing in a black and white victorian bathroom, and I think it will look a bit odd in a modern blue painted bathroom.

sorry!

I don't like this look tbh, the prints make it a bit Hyacinth Bucket imo. But then I hate faux aged/ "distressed" stuff, whether it's wooden furniture ruined that way in the name of "upcycling" or pre-ripped/faded jeans.

An actual painting in a good frame in a dressing room however would work for me.

We’re not posh enough to have a dressing room unfortunately. We’ll have to make do with a fake Landseer in the bog 😂

It's a print. Put it in a modern frame not antique style. The juxtaposition will look cool and funky otherwise it'll look naff. Go for it. I love the darker colour contrast as well. It's a great idea to be decadent in your bathroom!
