Does lists of tacky stuff change your opinion?

Over the years, I've read lots of posts with people listing tacky stuff such as mirrored furniture, Pandora bracelets, white cars, hot tubs, etc.

I'm wondering if anyone's tastes have been swayed
by reading mumsnetter's lists..for example you
stopped wearing a Pandora bracelet or your Michael Kors bag never comes out anymore..

YABU - Nobody takes these views seriously

YANBU - I've adapted my shopping habits after reading certain threads.

People can like what they like. Who cares.

I wouldn't wear pandora but loads like it. So what?

Whataretheodds · 05/03/2023 09:55

No, I already have impeccable taste so I don't own any of the tacky things.

/s

bussteward · 05/03/2023 09:55

neither of your options fits as I had taste to begin with. 💅

otherwayup · 05/03/2023 09:55

Why would you care?

I'm more offended by posters like you, than someone wearing a bracelet that isn't what I would personally choose!

PuttingDownRoots · 05/03/2023 09:56

I sometimes find it useful for new ways to repel snobs. 😁

Bananalanacake · 05/03/2023 10:00

No

Typingstranger · 05/03/2023 10:03

I’m not judging whether others wear these things..I’m wondering if people read the lists and change their shopping habits or alter their tastes based on views they read here.

Not really, my Pandora bracelet is incredibly sentimental to me and I give zero shits if people don't like it.

thimblewomble879 · 05/03/2023 10:08

No. People should trust their own taste. You like what you like.

Sockloon · 05/03/2023 10:08

Since when have white cars been tacky? 🤨

BeautifulWar · 05/03/2023 10:13

No, never. I like what I like!

Anyway, I don't know any of these posters from Adam - what if they're the tacky ones?!

I do love a tacky list post though. It's amazing how riled up people get about other people's choices (assuming they're not harming anyone else) that bring them happiness. So many closet (or maybe not so closet) Mrs Buckets.🍿

Ketchupwee · 05/03/2023 10:14

No, I don't really care what some rando on the internet thinks, and we all like different things

Grumpafrump · 05/03/2023 10:21

I think the lists themselves are tacky, and the likelihood that the people posting them actually have impeccable taste is pretty slim. It feels like they are mainly put out there by aspirational lower middles desperately trying to distinguish themselves from the working classes.

WandaWonder · 05/03/2023 10:24

I am perfectly happy with my choices before or after I see comments but to be perfectly honest if I saw a bad comment about something I like it would encourage me more to buy it not less

Ponoka7 · 05/03/2023 10:25

I like maxi dress although wear midi and they end somewhere in-between because I'm 5' 3". I also love florals over summer, so I'm never going to get the MN seal of approval, so I'll stick with my brown leather couches.

fussyferalkids · 05/03/2023 10:27

I've been inspired to be more adventurous, by both the style and beauty and the food threads. And I think I've become a better parent. It was a supportive place when I was in an abusive relationship, and helped me not to feel alone after I left it. It helped me deal with toxic family NC, grey rocking, stately homes. Mostly it's been a good jump off point for me to get real life help with problems I first voiced on here, I've name changed a lot over the years, but it's helped me along a rocky road to a happier life. MN diagnosed me with a few conditions I've now had treatment for as well! And my kids too! Yes there is a lot of shit posting as well, but some real good advice. Sometimes it's been the advice I give other people or see other people given on here that makes the penny drop for me in real life. I make my own choice on foot wear though 😂

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 05/03/2023 10:30

All those lists are just one person's opinion, much like the 100 books experts say you must read... It's all bollocks.

OoooohMatron · 05/03/2023 10:33

No I couldn't give a shiny shite.

bussteward · 05/03/2023 10:46

No I couldn't give a shiny shite.

Shiny shites are tacky, matt or satin is preferable.

BugLight · 05/03/2023 10:47

meh, couldn’t care less what other people consider tacky or love

but if you’re wondering if it’s worth advertising on mn or stealth advertising via a made-up thread just email them

prob have stats & a price list ‘n everything

PandasAreUseless · 05/03/2023 10:55

God no!
Have you never met the British public? Who gives a crap what that lot think about anything!? 🤷🏼‍♀️

I like mine glittery 😆

pussycatinfluffyslippers · 05/03/2023 14:34

Never had a white car, hot tub, pandora bracelet, mirrored furniture, fake grass, dresses with white trainers (except in the 90s when it wasn't a "fashion statement"), Who the f is Michael Kors?

I think of myself as a leader...I was in denim shorts with a scrunchy around my wrist a decade before the children copped on. Grin
I had long hair when everyone else went short...I had short hair when everyone else was glueing extensions to their scalp.
Not quite the VW Golf ad from the 80s, but close. 🤦‍♀️😂

That makes absolutely no sense!

@Typingstranger no, a random thread about 'tacky' things doesn't change my mind about things I like.

sometimes threads about current (home) styles makes me think. Like the other day there was a thread about window dressings & a lot of posters said how outdated curtains on poles were, it's made me think about seeing what the current trend is. If I like them, I'll do that, if I don't I'll get poles & curtains🤷🏻‍♀️

MeAndTequila · 05/03/2023 14:39

I’ve never been one to care what others think. I like myself and I like what I like. Snobby people who label things as tacky are not people I want in my life. I pity them really.
