My children love Heinz ketchup and it was costing an absolute fortune so decided to look for cheaper alternatives. I had a look on tesco and discovered Hellmann’s do ketchup.it was £1.50 a bottle, whereas similar size Heinz was about £3.30. I bought one….IT IS BRILLIANT! And my children one of which is Asd and very strict with what he’ll eat haven’t even noticed the change. It’s been on clubcard at £1 recently too so I stockpiled 3 extra. Just thought you should know 😊

Thanks for your civic-mindedness! I will check that out.

SchoolTripDrama · 03/03/2023 00:26

M&S ketchup is DIVINE! Puts Heinz to shame, honestly. The flavour.... Same sentiments to their seedless raspberry conserve. So so much flavour, I now can’t use any other jam

foulksmills · 03/03/2023 02:01

Thanks for the tip OP. My DS is autistic and loves ketchup, we used to use Aldi ketchup until they changed the recipe so I switched to Heinz. But it's so expensive!! So I chanced using the Aldi stuff again and he's fine with it now. So I'm back to recommending Aldi ketchup again.

NoSuchThingAsMe · 03/03/2023 02:11

Sainsbury's is the best.

Redglitter · 03/03/2023 02:28

OK this is totally spooky. I was doing my Tesco online shop earlier & couldn't believe how much cheaper Tesco & Hellmans were. I was wondering if it was false economy though & was going to post a thread tomorrow asking opinions.

How bizarre but you've saved me the bother now 😂

StormInaDcup99 · 03/03/2023 05:21

I used to always buy heinz but it got so expensive. Chanced my arm with the Stockwell brand (tesco own brand) and the difference is minimal. My dad, who has been a heinz fan his whole life, likes it too and has swapped over.

Now - my sister is a diff ballgame and refuses to even try the stockwell brand. I gave her and her husband a bottle and said....hre, try this.

Next time I saw them I asked how she found it.... " nope....no way.....not trying that stuff" was the response. Her husband started chuckling... 'well love.....you've been eating it no problem for the past fortnight, as I poured the stockwell one into a heinz container'

Says it all really 😝

FetchezLaVache · 03/03/2023 09:00

@StormInaDcup99 that's so funny!!

Arebella · 03/03/2023 09:33

We've also switched to Hellmans because of the price of Heinz! No one round here noticing the difference in taste!

IHeartGeneHunt · 03/03/2023 09:36

Aldi ketchup is the best! I used to like Sainsbury's own, it was cinnamon-ey. Then they changed it.

pasta4metonight · 03/03/2023 10:08

I don't under stand why Heinz anything is so expensive, tomato sauce, the beans and soup has always been too sweet for my palate. I always buy Lidls and love the textures and favours, have done for years.
A lot of branded goods come across as over rated and over priced.

LookItsMeAgain · 03/03/2023 12:13

@StormInaDcup99 - Do you happen to watch "Eat Well for Less" on the BBC? They regularly swap out brands for more affordable alternatives and the number of times when they do the reveal the steadfast loyal-to-the-brand people involved will drop their normal more expensive brand for the cheaper alternative is surprising. What is funnier is when they are still being given their branded product in plain packaging and they swear that it has been changed and they won't swap to it as they don't like it when the reveal is done!

I looooove their raspberry jam, will need to try the ketchup now too!

MotherOfTheGruffalo · 03/03/2023 13:06

Thanks!
My husband picked up heinz ketchup yesterday and was complaining about how expensive it is compared to other brands. I’ll try Hellman’s next time.

Clutterbugsmum · 03/03/2023 13:16

I've been buying Tesco one for a good couple of years.

When I first swapped I bought a small bottle and decanted it in to the old Heinz bottle to see if anyone could tell in the family could tell the difference. They couldn't so I stick with Tesco's.

UseOfWeapons · 03/03/2023 13:19

I sue the Lidl ketchup, and it's lush, as good as Heinz any day of the week.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 03/03/2023 13:19

We've been though this in our house recently. For the first time ever I bought Asda ketchup after being shocked at the cost of Heinz.

DH went to the cupboard to get the ketchup to go with his fish and chips and declared it an abomination. He told me he doesn't believe we can't afford to buy Heinz.

Showed him the price difference on the Asda website and he shut up and agreed the Asda stuff tasted fine actually.

UseOfWeapons · 03/03/2023 13:19

... USE! 🙄

nopeasplease · 03/03/2023 13:20

Yep the M&S one is amazing - the tiptree one is v good as well but that is pricey

Florenceandthevaccine · 03/03/2023 13:23

I love Heinz ketchup and salad cream (small addiction problem) but personally find Tesco own brands too vinegary.
Can any recommend an own brands salad cream that's a dupe for Heinz?

I have always wanted someone to do the brand swap thing!

WimbyAce · 03/03/2023 13:37

I get morrisons reduced salt and sugar ketchup which is 80p. Was always Heinz previously.

TheFormidableMrsC · 03/03/2023 13:38

Aldi ketchup for me. I can't tell the difference between that and Heinz. Cheap as chips and they do a reduced salt and sugar version which is also very good.

lmnabc · 03/03/2023 13:48

Thank you. From another thread I'm going to try branston baked beans. Now hellmans ketchup Smile

openingbat · 03/03/2023 13:53

I was buying country life spreadable and have found the tesco salted spreadable just as good, in case anyone is interested 😂 tesco beans are shite tho 😂

Lidl nicer tinned soup range are lovely. They do a tomato and basil that blows the socks off Heinz.
