My children love Heinz ketchup and it was costing an absolute fortune so decided to look for cheaper alternatives. I had a look on tesco and discovered Hellmann’s do ketchup.it was £1.50 a bottle, whereas similar size Heinz was about £3.30. I bought one….IT IS BRILLIANT! And my children one of which is Asd and very strict with what he’ll eat haven’t even noticed the change. It’s been on clubcard at £1 recently too so I stockpiled 3 extra. Just thought you should know 😊

@LadyKenya I didn't realise that was an offer price!! We better stock up quickly then!

😁

I like the Aldi alternatives.

They used to be really watery but they’re pretty decent nowadays.

Georgyporky · 03/03/2023 19:32

We don't use ketchup, but get through a jar of mayo p.w.

We did a blind tasting , & we preferred Aldi's own brand to Hellmans.

Less than half price.

Glad to be of be of help. Thanks for the other suggestions too-Aldi, M&S etc, handy to know. Now I just need to find cheaper than Heinz but as lovely as Heinz baked beans. Tesco and branston are not for me.

Just to muddy the waters, I had to throw our M&S ketchup away, no one would eat it.

Will definitely try the Hellman's.

And converted to Branston beans many years ago, as others said, much less sweet than Heinz but very tasty.

Heinz beans are only 50% beans, too. 50% sauce. Absolute travesty.

Ambrosia rice pudding is 9% rice.

NINE PER CENT

Have anyone here tried Heinz' half-sugar / half-salt ketchup? I picked this up by mistake as it was listed as cheaper and the label looked the same, just blue instead of green, but didn't notice the colour change until I got home. I had to chuck it away as it tasted vile, too different from the normal (green) recipe. I feel it's mis-labelled because you can't really distinguish between brand colours when the bottle is dimly-lit on the shelf.

Aldi's own ketchup on the other hand is fine.

Stressedafff · 04/03/2023 01:04

They sell this in our local Heron! It’s the nicest one!

can anyone recommend an alternative to Heinz mayo?! £3.50 a bottle is tooo much and i have it on everything (not aldis, it’s nasty)

@Coffeeandcatsforlife Oh you need to try m &s baked beans. A great switch and only about 50p!

3luckystars · 04/03/2023 04:11

Well I think that there can’t be that many ketchup factories. Some of them must be the same product in different bottles.

Chef is the best, 😃 but I will try the Hellman’s now thank you!

Trez1510 · 04/03/2023 04:36

Hellmanns standard Ketchup is good, but not as good as the Red&Green one.

I used to really love Hellmans Red&Green Tomato Ketchup, but they appear to have discontinued it. 😒

I can recommend Tesco's Organic Ketchup, but it's been out of stock for a while. No doubt they'll discontinue that too!

Coffeeandcatsforlife · 04/03/2023 09:43

@StormInaDcup99 oooh thank you for this info, I absolutely will try the m&s beans.

M&S ketchup is DIVINE! Puts Heinz to shame, honestly. The flavour.... Same sentiments to their seedless raspberry conserve. So so much flavour, I now can’t use any other jam

@SchoolTripDrama Just wanted to say that I ordered the M&S ketchup (couldn’t find the jam, nor Hellman’s ketchup) through British superstore, as I’m not in the UK. And it was really, really good! We loved it. We usually buy Heinz, but this was much nicer. Thank you! 🙂
