For this to have given me the serious ick?

I was friendly with a 28 year old man. Long story short - he wanted to date me but I wanted to keep it just friends. The thing is - he never had experience with relationships and/or sexual experience - but that's not the main issue - the issue is this - he kept on saying - in the context of talking about his attitude to life - "my dad (he still lived with parents) says that I'm often a negative-saurus but sometimes I can sometimes be a positive-saurus". was like wtf??! This is the language primary school teachers used to use to us when we were 5! More red flags than a Marxist convention!

I might start using that one actually as I’m a negativesaurus too.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 27/02/2023 18:50

I think saying things like that might be linked to having no sexual experience

rockpoolingtogether · 27/02/2023 18:50

Are you older than him? He just sounds a bit naive. He could be lovely. But if you don't get excited by him then best to be honest.

Possibly..

He sounds adorable as a friend or relative. But not what I'd want to hear from a potential love interest.

Testina · 27/02/2023 18:52

So you choose to be friends with him.
Not wanting to date him - fine.
Coming on here to laugh at perfectly OK - just very twee - language? Some friend 🤷🏻‍♀️

Am older but not by much... months not years

Fair comment - this actually isn't current - from a few years ago - our friendship is no more !

He dodged a bullet I think.

butterfliedtwo · 27/02/2023 18:55

It's obviously fine not to want to date him, but there are many, many other things I'd see as red flags before this twee language.

Fair enough - I'm perhaps being unkind/churlish. But at the time I thought it was distinctly odd

Then this an even weirder thread.

catfunk · 27/02/2023 19:02

Surely the phrase should be 'negosaurus' to rhyme with stegosaurus

.... missing the point I know

Riapia · 27/02/2023 19:02

He certainly dodged a bullet, dating someone that uses the word ick.

Why have you brought this up when it happened 5 years ago and you're no longer friends? 🤔

stripedsox · 27/02/2023 19:10

Get over the stupid flag thing peeps, a lot of the time it's not even relevant to the thread.

JudgeRinderonTinder · 27/02/2023 19:10

I actually physically cringed reading that! It would put me right off, OP. I don’t blame you 😬🤣

MarieRoseMarie · 27/02/2023 19:11

I understand where you are coming from, OP.

Roggers · 27/02/2023 19:11

I think I would get the ick from massive overuse of - - - - - in every sentence
