If you can, share your technique.

For the avoidance of doubt, I'm talking about one of these:

Take the top off and put it underneath. Then you have custard on the top and a double layer underneath. All the pleasure and none of the mess.

This woman is a genius.

You are massively U to put the words custard slice where I've had to see them everytime I've looked at the threads. I would LOVE a custard slice and I'm vegan.
To add insult to injury you posted a pic without putting pic included in your title and I've SEEN the slice.
I hope you get no good tips and make a huge mess with it OP. It serves you right.

Lift top off & use it to scoop custard & eat both icing, pastry & custard till top is finished. Means sticky fingers tho! Then lift bottom slice up which still has custard on it & repeat. A handy wet wipe & a good glug of tea & the world is now a better pace.

Great idea!

I never could get a custard or Bavarian slice home without it either being squished, or the icing stuck to the paper bag. I now take a small sandwich box, that the lovely ladies in my local Greggs carefully put my delicious goodies in.
I do get them home in one piece, but still can't eat them without making a mess.

Slice in half horizontally. Eat each half separately, saving the icing half until last of course.

This is the only way to eat a custard slice.

(& i want one now)

Certain Waitrose cakes are currently on (modest) offer. I bought a sticky toffee cake yesterday, which I might start tomorrow. Last week I was lucky enough to find a half price coffee and walnut cake. Splendid but so sweet it made my teeth hurt!

SaltnPeppaPig · 17/02/2023 21:03

Combined two of the tips.

Nope. Not possible.

SaltnPeppaPig · 17/02/2023 21:11

Verdict: turning the icing side down is a really good idea.

I don't get the sideways bit at all. Made it impossible to bite through properly and couldn't cake fork it either. Had to turn it back round.

I'm going to try the icing pastry below the plain pastry trick next time.

There's going to be quite the spike in the Custard Slice data monitoring at the Federation of Delicious Baked Goods and Custardy Treats Association!

Goingtobee · 17/02/2023 21:20

@Reallybadidea Yes! Absolutely the best way.
