I just want a nice flavoured squash - I used to love ribena, but it is grim now

So many have sweeteners - can anyone recommend an orange and mango - with no sweeteners (or at least point me in the direction of a nice one?!)

Waitrose pink grapefruit

Draconis · 11/02/2023 20:05

I've only found cordial or rocks

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/02/2023 20:05

Rocks do a blackcurrant cordial without sweetners.

SoCunningYouCanStickATailOnItAndCallItAFox · 11/02/2023 20:05

Belvoir is lovely though not sure if they do that exact flavour. But it's proper juice not a chemical solution at least.

GetTheBehind · 11/02/2023 20:07

I think Rose's Lime Cordial and Belvoir have normal sugar in them.

I am the same as you op and just cannot stand sweeteners 🤢, but I am partial to a lime and soda or other cordial of an evening

amberedover · 11/02/2023 20:07

Roses Lime cordial has sugar and no sweetners .

I've had this one - its OK - but not as nice as old school Ribena (the one from when I was small!)

I got pink grapefruit from Waitrose - I'm not sure about that one.. tastes a bit pithy

Lots, maybe 10+ threads on Mumsnet on this subject in recent years.

Just advanced search "Rocks" or "Belvoir" from 01/01/19 to date and you'll be shown loads of posts leading to useful threads.

Mossstitch · 11/02/2023 20:22

Rocks orange is nice, the blackcurrant not so much. Agree they have totally ruined ribena adding sucralose which I can't actually drink as gives me cramps. Wish they would understand that not everybody can take these sweeteners which they seem to have put in nearly everything since the sugar tax introduced😕

MadamLeota · 11/02/2023 20:23

Can I suggest monin syrup in a flavour of choice (I love the strawberry one), add ice and sparkling water. Delicious!
I cant have aspartame as it makes me ill so I tend to drink that now.

Yep, DH has the Rose's Lime and I have Belvoir Elderflower.

I think Bottlegreen do cordial without sweeteners as well.

Find your local Polish shop. They normally have a myriad of flavours.

JackieDaws · 11/02/2023 20:25

Łowicz cordials in Eastern European shops or section of large supermarkets. The strawberry one is the best, I think.

This sort of stuff, in the world food section.

This one from Lidl when they do Scandinavian week is the closest to original Ribena that I've tasted.

Sainsbury’s has a nice apple and mango squash. They do two versions, one with artificial sweeteners and one with proper sugar, so make sure you pick up the right one!

SignOnTheWindow · 11/02/2023 20:37

Waitrose own brand red fruit squash doesn't have any sweeteners in it. Much cheaper than Belvoir!

Doingitforthedc · 11/02/2023 20:40

Soft drinks just have not been the same since they added sweeteners to all and sundry. I also agree with pp’s suggestions of waitrose and belvoir. There used to be nothing nicer than a hot ribena when poorly.

motleymop · 11/02/2023 20:47

I can't believe Ribena haven't yet realises the error of their ways.

Rocks is the best IMO. I used to like the Waitrose pink grapefruit too but I feel like they changed something a couple of years back and it's not as nice as it once was. Waitrose used to do a nice range of artificial sweetener free squashes but they added sweeteners to most of theirs too.

AntiHop · 11/02/2023 20:52

Sainsburys do an own brand high juice orange and mango without sweeteners.

GetTheBehind · 11/02/2023 20:56

YY @motleymop, I've noticed they've started adding sweeteners when they didn't before. I even bought their own brand Belgian chocolate there a while ago (used to be my favourite) and found it had that aspartamine aftertaste... Need to look it up though to see if they're now adding sweeteners to it. It certainly tasted that way

harrassedmumto3 · 11/02/2023 20:57

M&S own brand

I absolutely love a French brand- tessiere. I think you can get low sugar ones but the original certainly doesn’t taste like it has sweeteners in. The citron one is amazing but I think they come in all flavours. I stock up on this as well as wine in France these days (you can get it in the UK but it’s not cheap).

Are you sure it doesnt have stevia in it, all the other M&S squash have stevia in, they lie saying it is not an artificial sweetener but it stevia, is basically artificial.
