(Lighthearted) He took the lid off the slow cooker

My husbands friend came to stay yesterday. I had a busy day planned and was in and out with the kids so chucked a meal in the slow cooker. It was about an hour in and when he came in, he said 'oh smells good' while lifting the lid for a better sniff. I think he doesn't know slow. Cooker etiquette!

Was he being unreasonable??

Aibu (he was not)
Yanbu (he was)

If there was another button for 'who really cares' I'm sure that would get all the votes. But as the title says, Lighthearted! For those slow cooker fans

I take the lid on and off mine all the time. Never had a problem.

housemaus · 06/02/2023 16:32

Is there some special slow cooker etiquette I don't know about...?

whattodo1975 · 06/02/2023 16:33

Yeah i take lid off, never causes and issues.

Do you never give it a stir or anything.

MasterOfOne · 06/02/2023 16:33

What is the slow cooker etiquette?? Like others I take the lid off all the time to stir, taste and add additional ingredients....

Cigarettesaftersex1 · 06/02/2023 16:33

Erm, I take the lid off frequently to stir, add bits and bobs etc., never been a problem

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 06/02/2023 16:34

Surely you need to take the lid off to stir? I don't see the issue.

x2boys · 06/02/2023 16:34

I'm always taking the lie off to.check how it's doing or give it a stir!

x2boys · 06/02/2023 16:35

Lid*

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 06/02/2023 16:35

I know what op means you are meant to leave the lid on but having a sniff and a stir won't do any harm :)

FuzzyPuffling · 06/02/2023 16:36

Lid off.
Stir.
Lid on.

Job done.

CottonSock · 06/02/2023 16:36

As long as he put it back on!

Inastatus · 06/02/2023 16:36

I’m another lid taker-offer, it’s never caused a problem.

OhClunge · 06/02/2023 16:36

I never touch touch it, once it's on it's just left to work its magic

Hankunamatata · 06/02/2023 16:36

Don't u take off to stir?

CraneBoysMysteries · 06/02/2023 16:37

Do you mean pressure cooker Op?

I also take the lid off multiple times! Maybe that explains why most of my slow cooker meals taste the same!

Forestdweller11 · 06/02/2023 16:38

Strictly speaking it's bad form to take the lid off and peer in. I do, but only when there's about an hour left to go so its already up to temperature so to speak .

SlipSlidinAway · 06/02/2023 16:39

Completely fail to see what the issue is here 🤷‍♀️

Oopswediditagain2023 · 06/02/2023 16:40

I'm so confused - I always take the lid off mine to give it a smell 🤣

Cherryflavouranything · 06/02/2023 16:40

I am aghast at you all taking the lid off. I thought it was forbidden.

Eastereggsboxedupready · 06/02/2023 16:41

Was it sausage surprise casserole and he ruined the surprise?

StopFeckingFaffing · 06/02/2023 16:41

How can you check how it's going without removing the lid?

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 06/02/2023 16:41

I thought you were going to say he took it off and left it off.

Just taking it off and replacing it is not unreasonable in the slightest

notangelinajolie · 06/02/2023 16:44

No etiquette re me taking lid off slow cooker. I like to give it a good stir and check on how everything is doing.

I would however, have a problem with a guest wandering into my kitchen and doing it. I think that would be a bit rude.

Aquamarine1029 · 06/02/2023 16:44

It's one thing to take the lid off of your own slow cooker in your own kitchen, but this twat was completely out of order. I'd have invited him to GTFO.

It is when it's not your home.
