Surely nobody can eat a pack of pate?

There are 4 of us. Once a week we have lots of different types of salads with French bread and pate as our evening meal. We love pate. It gets eaten at breakfast on toast in the days afterwards.

We never managed to eat it all before we’re scared of it. Why don’t they sell it in usable portions?

Can't you just throw it away, once it becomes frightening?

Changemaname1 · 25/01/2023 23:23

Hand on heart I could eat a whole tub to myself in one go 😂

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/01/2023 23:24

A single pack of pate with salad is the once a week, centrepiece treat for the family?

What do you have other nights? A sausage, a fish finger?

DailyMaui · 25/01/2023 23:25

And I thought my Saturday nights were dull...

Pate and salad, the weekly treat. Jings help ma boab.

BeachesDiary · 25/01/2023 23:26

So you pretty much have pate every day?

GinIronic · 25/01/2023 23:26

Are you The Borrowers?

OPs house on a Friday night: OMG peeps tomorrow is Saturday - which means pate night. God I love pate, will it be duck this week or perhaps a coarse terrine?

Saturday night: OP pushes back plate with small contented sigh of satisfaction "salad, baguette and pate" we are blessed

Sunday morning: Joyous news, pate on toast for breakfast for us all

Monday morning: Goodness, it's like the magic porridge pot but liver based -more pate still!

Tuesday; Ooft, sad news chaps, the pate is looking a little terrifying. Omelette, anyone?

Wednesday, Thursday- foraging amongst the tumbleweed

Friday: Yay, praise beans only 24 hrs till our super special meal of the week - who is excited for pate day?!

I wish there was a ‘like’ button for comments like this!

Must say, I sort I’d agree with OP. It’s just me, DH, and the cat. DH is vegetarian so I have to tackle the whole thing alone. I could easily chow the whole thing with a loaf on my favourite crusty bread (and the cat will happily help out if allowed) but it’s not the best dietary choice, so I do limit the amount that I let myself have. I’d prefer to buy it in a smaller package.

This is hands down the best thread in ages

I’ve got a lovely half eaten jar of luxury pate in the fridge from Christmas. It’s two tone now though.

Is there a helpline? Should I eat it or not?

We buy the white tubs from the coop - it’s not from a pricey deli or anything.

We all like it very much as a treat. It sounds like people are putting it on as a thick layer on French bread rather than a spread? I’d find that tricky.

We have it on toast in the days afterwards

Once it’s gone grey in the fridge with a still pink middle I’m scared of it.

You seem to be treating it like old- fashioned “sandwich spread” not pâté. It has to be thick enough that you can see teeth marks after you bite.

determinedtomakethiswork · 25/01/2023 23:27

But it's only 175 g isn't it? That's only about 6 ounces between the whole family.

talknomore · 25/01/2023 23:28

Buy a smaller pack of a nicer variety of you are unable to finish bigger pack of cheaper one?

Johnnysgirl · 25/01/2023 23:28

A family of four eat it "for days" and it just doesn't get any smaller? 🤔
To be honest, I'd be scared if that too. Sounds like it's been infiltrated by alien forces.

PousseyNotMoira · 25/01/2023 23:31

This is what you’re meant to do with pate. What do you do with it, OP? For four people, I’m genuinely not seeing how it could last multiple meals, unless you’re only using the gentlest scrapings.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 25/01/2023 23:32

I’d find that tricky.

Why?

There is a language (I forget which one, possibly Swedish?) that has a word for butter spread so thickly you leave teeth marks in it when you bite into the bread. This is the minimum standard for pâté.

mrsm43s · 25/01/2023 23:32

I just checked the pate in the fridge. It's 175g, and says use within 2 days of opening. It also says this product (175g) provides 3 servings.

We would easily use

Anchorwanker · 25/01/2023 23:32

If op is genuine I think they probably have some sort of eating disorder and is probably best not engaged with

Or it replenishes itself <dreams>

God that looks heavenly I’m starving 🤤

in OPs defence though about pate not been a treat , as someone who aims for low carb typically then some decent bread and pate does sound a nice tea

mrsm43s · 25/01/2023 23:35

Sorry! Continued..

We would use 1 tub between 4 of us in one meal tbh.

Not sure what your issue is?

PatriciaHolm · 25/01/2023 23:36

The Magic Pate Pot! Yes please.

I am going through a big "pate on toast for lunch" phase....

Hellocatshome · 25/01/2023 23:38

So in conclusion OP you are eating your pate wrong.

ElspethTascioni · 25/01/2023 23:39

Oof, I love pâté! I can easily polish off a packet to myself in one sitting 😳

YABVU unless it’s a 1kg pack you’re talking about.

BreadInCaptivity · 25/01/2023 23:39

This cannot be true.

A favourite meal of the week is bread, salad with a scraping of pate....that then lasts for days.

DH and I would eat that pate in one sitting (hell I could probably give it a good go myself).

I'm pondering what you eat the rest of the week.

Breakfast: one weetabix with a dribble of milk (the rest of the bottle being thrown away two weeks later as it's gone off)?

Lunch: omelette for four made with one egg each and a cube of cheese (the pack of which takes so long to eat it gets mouldy)?

Changemaname1 · 25/01/2023 23:23

Yeah! I think it's the 170g and frankly, that's a single portion😁
