"My baby"

Genuinely not sure if I ABU or not. It makes me cringe when people call their children over the age of about 6 months "my baby". In my eyes they just don't necessarily seem like babies any more. I can sort of understand up until 12 months but definitely not after. I've come across people calling their child of nearly two year old "my baby".

in my 30s here. my mum still calls me her baby and says I always will be lol. not out in public of course. it's completely normal for family to still see someone as baby especially if they are the youngest etc.

Myhydrangeachangedcolour · 23/01/2023 19:15

My son thought his name was ‘baby X’ until he was about 3!

eastegg · 23/01/2023 19:16

Our nursery’s baby room (that’s what the nursery and all parents called it) covered from the youngest up to about 18-20odd months. What else would you call a 7 month old? My first didn’t toddle until 20 months so not toddler!

Pinkfluff76 · 23/01/2023 19:18

Totally agree with you OP! I’ve got a friend whose baby is over a year old and she hardly uses its name. Just called the baby…

Sennelier1 · 23/01/2023 19:20

@GUARDIAN1 yes, first you grow The Fetus in your tummy and once it's out you call it The Infant. @StrychnineInTheSandwiches indeed, especially the farting and the sour puke are a contraindication. Maybe we should just call them still-evolving-creatures.

pinkstripeycat · 23/01/2023 19:21

My baby is 206 months old. Still call him mummy’s baby. Talk to him as though he is a chubby tot instead of a 6’5” beanpole. He responds by acting daft and laying his head on my lap

oioimatey · 23/01/2023 19:22

I am sorry to inform you that YABVU.

HallieHufflepuff · 23/01/2023 19:22

@tocas YABU why do you care what other people call their own children? 😂

magicthree · 23/01/2023 19:27

tocas · 22/01/2023 20:42

So as not to drip feed I have not got any children hence why I think I may be BU.

I don't have any children either, but I don't think a baby ceases to be a baby after six months!!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 23/01/2023 19:31

So they're not a baby at 7 months old. Thank God you're not the Employment Minister you'd have them starting work at 12 months old. 😂

Aquamarine1029 · 22/01/2023 20:45

You didn't even need to tell us, it's obvious.

First thing I thought when I read it.

BellePeppa · 23/01/2023 19:34

Mine are adult and they’re still my babies😊

pinkpanthapp · 23/01/2023 19:36

My 5 year old will always be my baby, even when she's 40! I

Blossomtoes · 23/01/2023 19:36

My mum went to see her sister in hospital when she was in her late 80s, she was greeted by “Oh, it’s my baby sister”.

MysteryBelle · 23/01/2023 19:39

Uh, nothing wrong with it and of course parents call their 1 or 2 year old their baby. And a 3 or 4 year old and older. Many parents call their grown up children their babies because they will always be. I have a teen and sometimes I call him my baby, so what? Some people say it endearingly of their grown up adult children yes in public. You don’t understand because as you say, you don’t have children. If it annoys you, look to yourself for the reason why.

pinkrose1994 · 23/01/2023 19:41

What??? My 8 month old is definitely a baby!

Catcharolo · 23/01/2023 19:46

?? My 16 month old is a bloody baby! Wtf else is he? He can’t walk or really talk, he wears a bib, he sits in a buggy, he looks like a chubby little baby boy. Because he is!

Hjw806 · 23/01/2023 19:48

My children will also be my babies doesn’t matter if they are children or adults.

Iwantabloodypizza · 23/01/2023 19:51

My 21 year old Police Officer is still mummy’s baby 🤣

TwoPointFourCatsAndDogs · 23/01/2023 19:51

My babies are 17 and 14. And they’ll still be my babies until the day I die. YABU.

Mumof3premies · 23/01/2023 19:51

We still call our 7 year old baba 🙄 and my 19month old is definitely still my baby 😂

this is a silly question imo

tiredmama23 · 23/01/2023 19:52

tocas · 22/01/2023 20:45

Would you say to others in everyday conversation though? For example "I've got to go and pick my baby up from nursery"

Yep! My youngest is almost 2 and this is exactly what I say. 😄

Mumof3premies · 23/01/2023 19:53

Why does that bother you so much?
I think until they are fully potty trained, walking and talking they are still babies 🙃

T1Dmama · 23/01/2023 19:53

My mum still calls the youngest of her 4 children her baby and he’s just turned 40!
my daughter will always be my baby…
People refer to their kids as ‘their baby’ not an actual baby. So I know my almost teenager isn’t a baby … but she’s ‘my baby’ if that makes sense

tiredmama23 · 23/01/2023 19:56

Motelschmotel · 23/01/2023 18:55

Ha! I could tell from first post you don’t have any DC 😂

Me too!! Stands out a mile 😂
