"My baby"

Genuinely not sure if I ABU or not. It makes me cringe when people call their children over the age of about 6 months "my baby". In my eyes they just don't necessarily seem like babies any more. I can sort of understand up until 12 months but definitely not after. I've come across people calling their child of nearly two year old "my baby".

I’m 667 months old and my mom says I’m still her baby. I’m very happy with that. I still call both of DDs “baby” (amongst other terms of endearment that others might find cringe worthy) and they are 23 age 19.

My 8yo is my baby. He has multiple disabilities, and is very dependent on me. In as many ways as possible I treat him as an 8yo boy but he is still my baby, he still wants a cuddle and a kiss when he gets in from school, still likes to get in our bed for a hug.

I don't really care what anyone else thinks about that.

With multiple disabilities
without multiple disabilities

he would still be your baby and would probably still want a kids and a cuddle!

Yes I know @Ursula82 but his dependence on me is much more pronounced, so in many ways he is still my baby. My 4yo DD is my baby girl because she's my youngest, but she isn't so dependent on me.

MintJulia · 24/01/2023 11:58

My son is taller than me, but he's still my baby and I'd still rip the arms off anyone who tried to harm him. It's a biological thing. I'll probably still feel that way when I'm 90. 😀

I don't call him 'my baby' in front of anyone because I don't want to embarrass him but the sentiment is there.

Our baby is 19 (years). Sorry that it offends you 😁

DenmarkDen · 24/01/2023 13:40

My children will be 44 and 45 this year and they are, and always will be, my babies!! 😍

Zeewest · 24/01/2023 16:36

I called my daughter (37) "my baby" infront of my grandson, 9, he was mortified, "She's not a baby grandma" I had to explain that she will always be my baby and he will always be her baby, not sure he was happy being told he would alway be a baby but doesn't tell me off anymore.

Me trying to read this with a Scottish accent 🤣

BeckyWithTheGoodHair010101 · 24/01/2023 21:59

I tell my 9 and 6 year olds they'll be my babies even when they're 36

ellyeth · 25/01/2023 00:06

I can't see the problem with it.

PeachyPeachTrees · 25/01/2023 11:05

I would say they are a baby until they could walk and then become a toddler, maybe up to a year or 18 months. Then a preschooler, then a child, then a teenager and finally an adult. However, as a term of endearment I can call them my baby forever even if technically an adult.

A late walker can still be called a baby. I think it's up to the parent, if they like to still say baby, why not!

until you have one, you’re really in no position to judge. I have an 8 month old. She is a baby. What would you call her, a toddler?!

Stewball01 · 27/01/2023 14:31

I'm sorry. My DD who will be 50 in October is still my baby and doesn't react when I call her that's. She'll always be my baby.
