To be completely demoralised by hot cross buns?

Been shopping earlier this week and noticed hot cross buns/mini eggs/crème eggs at the end of an aisle as a display in Morrisons, instantly made be furious, then again today in Tesco shelf's of hot cross buns in the bakery.

Give us a break please, I haven't even been paid since 20th December and still have until the 28th to be paid again. I'm absolutely skint from Christmas. Used £100 of savings to put the heating on with £280 already expected to come out of my pay for electric. And these greedy bastard have already started with the Easter shit. Its not even the end of January and all ready the Easter prep is starting.

It's exhausting. I'm so low right now, so broke with so many house problems adding up. Seeing those hot cross buns has sent me west. It's just relentless right now. And Tesco was freezing. Freezing. The poor workers were freezing why? It's a billion pound company and they've turned their heating off?? Because the greedy greedy bastards don't want any losses even at the detriment of their staff. Honestly feels like end of days in the UK right now.

AIBU? Or is seeing Easter stuff in January an absolute screw you to the average struggling Brit.

Hot cross buns are on the shelves all year round.

Bubblebubblebah · 21/01/2023 23:04

Unless I am halucinating, hot cross buns are available all year round. Creme eggs come in jan till easter, isn't it.
Every year.

No big deal there

Tilllly · 21/01/2023 23:04

Coop had Easter eggs in before Cmas
Made me mad enough to complain
They replied that they are giving customers choice...

Greyhave · 21/01/2023 23:06

Yabu i like seeing the hot cross buns and Easter eggs, it reminds me in this god awful miserable month that spring is just around the corner.

I don’t buy Easter stuff until nearer the time but just think in a few weeks it’ll be getting warmer, lighter and hopefully things will be looking up a bit!

Sorry you’re having such a hard time with the bills and cold atm though. It is shit bit will get warmer soon.

louderthan · 21/01/2023 23:06

I completely get your point OP but I have to say I love seeing Easter stuff come into shops because it means Christmas is over for another year and Spring is on the way...

madeyemoody · 21/01/2023 23:07

I had no idea hot cross buns were all year. I go to the same shop every week and never seen them? Don't know about Tesco I've never been in that particular shop but the Morrisons is my local and never noticed them except for Easter.

I know crème eggs are common same as mini eggs but there was a display, an effort had been made to group them together.

I'm probably reaching for things to justify my anger at the state of living right now. Like I said it just feels relentless...

I think there's usually two weeks a year when I can't buy hot cross buns in Tesco, possibly just after Easter.
Please don't ban them - my husband wouldn't know what to do if he couldn't have two every day as part of his packed lunch! 😂😂

DaisyCornflowerBlue · 21/01/2023 23:08

Round here if you don't buy Easter eggs by the end of February the best ones sell out. I'm not kidding.

Hot cross buns are just teacakes-plus. Roll with it.

madeyemoody · 21/01/2023 23:08

No I won't ban them or complain! I love them, I'm a bad fiend for HCB, same with crème eggs and mini eggs love them. Desperate for pay day here!

I eat a hot cross bun everyday. They are def available all year round.

you get fresh bakery ones more predominantly at Easter so maybe you’ve seen those.

pigsinoodies · 21/01/2023 23:09

What's going on with the inflation on them anyway? I'm sure they used to be 1 or 2 for a penny?

I think cream eggs start appearing on the shelves from Boxing Day.

WhereIsMyRollingPin · 21/01/2023 23:10

Our convenience shop was putting out Easter eggs on Christmas Eve. I just ignore it all though, not interested in buns or rubbish chocolate.

I hope your finances improve soon though OP.

madeyemoody · 21/01/2023 23:11

@DaisyCornflowerBlue ok lol when you put it like that maybe there is no choice but to get them stocked quick. I just feel like you get over one big event then another is building up. Which is 100% life, never felt the pinch until recently, always been lucky to have left over money after bills etc but lately...geezy peeps

As it happens I worked (briefly) in a factory that made hit cross buns. It was definitely a seasonal thing and the same line made other things for the rest of the year, although extra staff were employed from the end of February.

madeyemoody · 21/01/2023 23:12

@Greyhave yeah that's true...need to remember January can't last for ever and either can this weather. Spring/Summer means no more heating on so won't be nearly as bad

OP posts:
DoNotGetADog · 21/01/2023 23:12

Supermarkets have definitely expanded their range of hot cross buns in the last couple of weeks. The basic normal ones are now available all year round, but now they have brought out the chocolate/apple/cheese etc so they are taking up more room on the shelves now.

It doesn’t bother me in the slightest - I would kill to be able to get a Booths chocolate and ginger HCB every single day of the year!

madeyemoody · 21/01/2023 23:14

I'll relax then if you can get them all year round I'll have to keep an eye out. I know at Easter they have them more at the shop front, maybe they don't sell well at my Morrisons so they don't do that many in the bakery. I'll put my pitchfork down Blush

madeyemoody · 21/01/2023 23:16

@DoNotGetADog yeah I like the sweet one's too, salted caramel ones that are really doughy. Shit...should have got some instead of being a bad crank Grin

I like being able to buy a hot cross bun though. No idea what the relevance of when you were last paid is 🤷‍♀️

GrazingSheep · 21/01/2023 23:18

Bubblebubblebah · 21/01/2023 23:19

The M&S marmite ones😍

MickeyMouseShithouse · 21/01/2023 23:19

Don’t worry OP, it was only last year I was walking the shops and realised hot cross buns aren’t actually seasonal! 😂 I always thought they were a Easter only thing too..

HelloTiggy · 21/01/2023 23:20

I love the Waitrose chocolate HCBs. Not sure they had them last year. Sad
