What holidays and breaks do you have planned for this year?

Pure escapism thread for me, as my mum is having hospice care so things are hard. Was supposed to be going away for a few days of sun in a beach resort in a couple of weeks, which won't happen now (and doesn't matter a jot really) as I have more important stuff to do. We are also hoping to visit friends in France later in the summer, but nothing booked yet.

But thought it would be fun to hear what plans others have coming up this year, and live vicariously!

What holidays are you looking forward to?

OP literally says she's in hospice car with her Mum. Why did you feel the need to be so bitchy towards someone who's already hurting?

We haven't booked anything yet OP. I have been looking and really fancy a Greek Island again but can't find the right thing just yet.

wot3va · 19/01/2023 14:11

A bit outing but Caribbean cruise in Feb with a few days in Miami. Centre Parcs in April. France in July. And a hotel break in between somewhere for a weekend.

Isseywith3witchycats · 19/01/2023 14:45

big hug for you we are going to feurteventura in may
and two or three motorbike rallies which is weekends in a tent no luxuries but good company and very loud bands

@sparepantsandtoothbrush that sounds gorgeous, I would love a Greek island holiday someday! Are there any in particular you'd recommend?

Sorry about your mum op 💐

We’ve got two holidays booked - fortnight in Italy and a fortnight in Canada. In between we’re planning a couple of European city breaks.

boilthekettle · 19/01/2023 15:03

@wot3va I love Miami, have you been before? Cruise sounds relaxing.

wot3va · 19/01/2023 15:19

@boilthekettle first time in Miami, first time on a cruise! Massively looking forward to it

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 19/01/2023 15:25

sorry about your mum OP.

We have a week skiing, two weeks island hopping in Greece, trying to sort out a week in the shetlands, have few long weekends booked in the lakes too.
Cornwall for a wedding so will try and make a week of that too.

CellophaneIsTheName · 19/01/2023 15:48

Nothing so I'm joining the thread to live vicariously through others the same as the OP. Lone parent with a child with asd, the only time I've attempted a holiday ended 2 days early and hasn't been attempted again.

I hope everyone has something lovely planned!

Rhodes!!! I absolute love love love it there. We have been twice.

As for us, we are going to Scotland for a budget half term ski break 🎿 (very much risking there not being any skiing as I have been warmed Scotland ski weather is so unreliable but it was the only ski trip we could afford during half term 😬)

LappyClaps · 19/01/2023 15:55

We’ve just had our first baby last week so trips have had to be planned around a baby this year, but have Hawaii booked for October, Lake District in May and a couple of weeks in the canaries for summer. Might book a cruise with my mum in June too, but that’s tbc

Not the first time I've seen this poster post something like this tbh. Better off ignoring.

I'm going to Cyprus for 5 days in may and the lake District in summer.

HandbagsnGladrags · 19/01/2023 15:59

Sorry about your mum OP.

I have three holidays planned this year. Girls week in the Canaries at the start of May, then a couple of holidays with my husband. Two weeks in Andalusia in June, then a week in Corfu in September. I am the queen of the beach holiday.

Echobelly · 19/01/2023 16:00

DH and I will hopefully take our first anniversary trip abroad in a few years and go to Amsterdam in July. Aiming to book Eurostar in next few days, parents should be able to have the kids.

Summer we're looking to South of France - DH is looking into the sleeper train from Paris,as online you can't book until 6 months before but obviously we want to book ASAP. Hoping he might find a way to reserve a berth by phoning them, otherwise guess we'll fly. DH grew up holidaying there a lot and though we've been without the kids 3 times, we've never taken them there. Oldest is 14 and will have done GCSEs by summer 2024 holidays so this might be our last regular summer holiday with all 4 of us! 😮

Summerishere123 · 19/01/2023 16:03

We are going to Turkey in April and I have a hen abroad in May. Might book something for late August.

Refreshmentsanyone · 19/01/2023 16:09

Sorry about your mum.
I’m just back from a city break. Was mild when we left and four days later we’re back to Heathrow all frozen up.
I’m surprised Everyone seems to be going somewhere. The cost of living crisis seems to be more about moaning than anything else. We still love our holidays clearly. Be interesting to see what the effect is by the summer .

CirreltheSquirrel · 19/01/2023 16:10

Gran canaria next month, touring Germany in June and probably the Costa Blanca in October. Plus a long weekend in Scotland in August and maybe a couple of other long weekends

AbsolutelyLividDarling · 19/01/2023 16:11

Are you pleased with yourself now SavoirFlair. Nice warm fuzzy glow from being so epically shitty to someone who has done you no harm by posting a thread to maybe divert her attention from an unpleasant situation.

Sorry about your mum OP and sorry you had to read that bitchy snipe from SF.

Ratched · 19/01/2023 16:14

I have a couple of foreign jaunts lined up this year, Kettle, as well as a meetup up with my best friend of 50 years + in the borders in March ( its a lodge with hot tub and takeaway deliveries)😁
I also have a campervan, so will be escaping at every possible opportunity with my dogs.
I tend to just look at the weather forecast and head in the sunny direction!

Ive been where you are. It's hard. Take care of yourself x

Benjispruce4 · 19/01/2023 16:39

Loved NYC last year so would like another city break but nothing booked yet.

Lansonmaid · 19/01/2023 16:52

OP I'm really sorry to hear about your mum. Flowers

At the moment am going on a skiing holiday with my DD in March (DH is working with DS at that time) and DH and I have a week booked on an old sailing boat at the beginning of June. Probably take the caravan away in early July as well for a week or two, maybe Scotland like last year. Nothing too exotic really, although I am looking forward to some Mum and daughter time. She's moved away and don't see too much of her now.

LlynTegid · 19/01/2023 17:02

I am going to France as well, OP.

jay55 · 19/01/2023 17:49

Sorry about your mum, been through similar recently.

I'm off to vegas next week.
And I hope to do something in October maybe a city break or cruise.

MaryShelley1818 · 19/01/2023 18:10

Sorry to hear about your mum.

We're going to Disneyland Paris 3 times as we've bought Annual Passes. Not everyone's cup of tea but with kids age 5 & 2 it's perfect for us.

Also doing Holland, a week in the Lakes and a few weekend breaks.
