Pure escapism thread for me, as my mum is having hospice care so things are hard. Was supposed to be going away for a few days of sun in a beach resort in a couple of weeks, which won't happen now (and doesn't matter a jot really) as I have more important stuff to do. We are also hoping to visit friends in France later in the summer, but nothing booked yet.

But thought it would be fun to hear what plans others have coming up this year, and live vicariously!

What holidays are you looking forward to?

Sorry about your mum.

DH has just been diagnosed with Prostate cancer so may affect our Easter trip. Hopefully can get him sorted before we go but we were going to Barcelona, Madrid and Bilbao.

Tour of Germany in August. We did Munich, Nuremberg and Leipzig last year and loved it so doing the top half of the country - Berlin, Hamburg, Hannover maybe - not decided which parts to visit yet.

Krakow in October

We are not a sun and sea holiday type family! 😁

Hoppinggreen · 19/01/2023 18:31

Spain with the DC and some of their friends at Feb half term. Planning on taking DD away once she has done her A levels but not sure where yet.
then Italy for 10 days in July with the 4 of us. Long weekend end of August with friends and their DC.
We may go away for Xmas, depends if we get a new kitchen

Benjispruce4 · 19/01/2023 18:41

So impressed how many of you have several holidays booked already. I’m the only one that does it in this house . If I didn’t organise anything DH would never get round to it.

grayhairdontcare · 19/01/2023 19:26

I'm off to Venice in April and Greece in September.
Thinking of doing a weekend in London in between.

userxx · 19/01/2023 19:32

Spain and Greece are on the list so far. I'm looking to add to it.

MinnieMountain · 19/01/2023 19:35

-Saas-Fee in April so DH and DS can ski on the glacier and I can walk in the valley.

-South of France in May half-term.

-A long weekend and walking in Slovenia for just me in September.

-Pompei, Herculaneum, Vesuvius and Rome in October half-term.

Also my DF’s in Pembrokeshire in July. Technically a family visit but it’s a holiday place.

Your user name makes sense.

Its a big birthday for me this year, so up to now I have
weekend spa break
weekend in Krakow
two weeks in Lanzarote
will need something later in the year, maybe October
But I am extremely lucky as I have already had a week away!

valentinaxo · 19/01/2023 19:54

1 Week in Greece
Bank Holiday weekend in Lake District
1 Week in Cornwall
2 1/2 weeks Caravanning around France/possibly Northern Italy

Very early for us to have planned so much, really looking forward to it. All the best to you mum x

Knickerthief1 · 19/01/2023 20:00

Sorry about your Mum. We have a few weekends booked as well as a weekend on the Dalmation Coast at Easter. Looking forward to ticking Dubrovnik off my bucket list.

VestaTilley · 19/01/2023 20:08

Really sorry about your Mum, OP.

We’re going to Scotland for a wedding in August, and are making a holiday of it with a week either side of the wedding. We’ll hopefully have two nights in the Lake District on the way up.

We can’t wait. Aside from a weekend in Suffolk and a weekend in Tenby (paid for by ILs) we haven’t had a proper holiday since 2018. After having a baby, PND, the Covid years and buying a house we just couldn’t manage a holiday.

We were hoping to do a week in Crete too - our last chance to get abroad before DS starts school in Sept and we’re stuck holidaying in school holidays for years, but I don’t think we’ll be able to afford it after all as it looks like we’ve got damp in the roof! Here’s hoping Scotland goes ahead ok.

MinnieMountain · 19/01/2023 20:12

It’s actually nothing to do with liking mountains @userxx . I prefer the sea

MajorCarolDanvers · 19/01/2023 20:17

New Orleans in the spring.

Paris + Disneyland Paris in the autumn.

MajesticWhine · 19/01/2023 20:18

Center parcs at half term.
Short break to Madrid in March.
Haven't booked summer yet. Can't agree who's coming, when to go, where to go etc. My adult DDs want to come but that usually means boyfriends want to come so it gets complicated. I would love to go to a Greek island.

Veryfishy · 19/01/2023 20:21

💐for you and your Mum

We are off to Tenereife next week , luckily for us we we have recently retired , and as it has rained or been really cold ever since ( and I am still recovering from the cold from hell that ruined Christmas for me ) DH just decided to book it ( my first time to the Canaries )

Planning a long weekend in Palma in May ….and we have booked a cruise to Iceland in August

Casilero · 19/01/2023 20:31

Sorry about your Mum, I know it's not easy and totally get the need for escapism.

Was just talking about holidays with my partner. We haven't got anything at all booked which will not do!

We've got his family coming from abroad for 2 weeks in the summer so going to take some time off for a bit of a staycation. I was thinking about booking a week during May half term in Portugal for us plus 15 year old daughter. Maybe she could bring a friend.

My friend is nagging me to book a weekend away for us too and would be nice to have a weekend with partner when my daughter is away with her Dad. Need some inspiration!

IggyAce · 19/01/2023 20:59

@boilthekettle hugs to you, my mum died suddenly last week.
We haven’t booked anything yet but are planning a trip to London and a trip to Northumberland.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/01/2023 21:01

We are going to Greece (Halkidiki) in the summer, which I’m really looking forward to.

Thats the main thing at the moment!

bakebeans · 19/01/2023 21:04

What a lovely refreshing post. I'm still hoping for a Greek island holiday or a little trip to ibiza

BHRK · 19/01/2023 21:06

Sorry about your mum, my lovely parent had hospice care, it is a difficult and emotional time.
we have Spain, Amsterdam and France booked so far, then will try to get away for a few days for a Xmas market

bakebeans · 19/01/2023 21:10

Sorry just to add. I meant a lovely post re a holiday one but so sorry about your mum also. ❤️❤️

whoruntheworldgirls · 19/01/2023 21:13

Sorry about your mum OP Flowers
I have Lanzarote and a California road trip

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 19/01/2023 21:16

For me I haven't had the ability to have a holiday in a long time. I hope I might get a few weekend breaks in and keep swapping and changing between :

London
Edinburgh
Bath
Hay On Wye
and the Chatsworth area of Derbyshire

At the moment this feels like largely fantasy as I can't settle on a specific place or which weekend Grin

Sorry about your Mum Flowers

Blendandmix · 19/01/2023 21:17

First family holiday for us, Dubai In feb and Greece in the winter!

RosesAndHellebores · 19/01/2023 21:18

@boilthekettle Flowers

DH, DS and DIL are ski-ing 3rd week in Feb. Dd and I will book a week of winter sun. We don't ski. Bit worried about dil's capabilities but she's up for it. Perhaps next year she'll come for sun with the girls.

Easter - our home in France

May - DH and I are having a week in Corfu.

Early July - break in northern Spain

August - in France (although I'll work for two weeks of it).
