Pure escapism thread for me, as my mum is having hospice care so things are hard. Was supposed to be going away for a few days of sun in a beach resort in a couple of weeks, which won't happen now (and doesn't matter a jot really) as I have more important stuff to do. We are also hoping to visit friends in France later in the summer, but nothing booked yet.

But thought it would be fun to hear what plans others have coming up this year, and live vicariously!

What holidays are you looking forward to?

We’ve got a week in Cornwall and a festival booked, plus Center Parcs next Christmas.

Waiting for bonus to figure out if we do anything else.

uggmum · 19/01/2023 21:25

Feb, log cabin in Yorkshire for 3 nights
March, all inclusive Mauritius for 2 weeks
June, Sicily for a week
July, Nice for 4 nights.
Sept, week abroad, tbc
Dec, spa retreat for 3 nights.

houseofhungryboys · 19/01/2023 21:45

Sorry to hear about your mum 💐 We lost FIL late last year, last year was a tough one
Have booked 2 weeks in Cancún just me and DH in Sept, excited!

GuiltyPleasure · 19/01/2023 21:54

Flowers for you & your mum

We've got a week booked in Menorca in May & 10 days in Ibiza in August. My DS is waiting to hear about a year abroad placement from uni, so a trip to any of his chosen places, Canberra, Helsinki or Prague might be on the cards. I've never been to any of them, so it's exciting (slightly mixed feelings about the distance if he gets Australia!)

mrsbyers · 19/01/2023 21:56

Annual vegas trip in May , four nights in krakow in June , week in Yorkshire Sept and a few days Scottish Borders at twixmas

baffledcoconut · 19/01/2023 21:58

Norway in the winter at some point (I don’t do well with planning ahead! But have two weeks booked off November and December so one of those will be Norway)

A long weekend somewhere not too far- perhaps Germany or Amsterdam. A week on the coast in the U.K. and something else when we’ve decided. I’m using this thread for ideas!

Hope you’re enjoying it OP. And that that you get a lovely holiday and break to unwind and replenish yourself when you get chance. Much love.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 19/01/2023 22:03

Hoping to book a holiday in Greece if my boss will actually confirm my leave request 😡 apparently she needs to discuss my request to take 2 weeks off in 8 months time with the other 10 colleagues in the team! 🙄

NeedToChangeName · 19/01/2023 22:03

Sorry about your mum. Enjoy daydreaming. It's a good distraction

We're going to usa in summer

And perhaps Spain in Autumn

AddictedtoCrunchies · 19/01/2023 22:06

Two weeks in a cottage on the side of a Scottish loch. We go every year and love it.

Ilovemycatalot · 19/01/2023 22:06

Due to the cost of living, rising bills and stagnating wages I’ll be lucky to afford a weekend city break this year.

TheClitterati · 19/01/2023 22:07

Interailing through Italy at Easter.

Bruge, Efteling, Germany, road trip in august.

It's exciting planning holidays abroad after several years not travelling

Fuggly · 19/01/2023 22:13

Sorry about your mum OP.

A weekend in Northumberland
5 days in Berlin
4 days in Glasgow
2 nights in a luxury country house hotel in Hampshire
A week in Normandy visiting battlefields
A week walking in Tuscany

looking forward to all of it!

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit I can highly recommend Bakewell we had a lovely time there last summer. Chatsworth is fabulous (great for kids but obviously good for adults too). The food is lush I became a pork pie, they do delicious ones. Bakewell tart is so yummy. We really enjoyed hiring bikes to go on the monsal trail. The heights of abrams is very entertaining.

There's loads to do in the area. I want to go back this year and will do Crich tramway village instead of the heights but definitely going back to the monsal trail. You can walk it too.

We had a lovely picnic in the park in Bakewell. I love it there.

ZenNudist · 19/01/2023 22:25

Sorry about your parent OP. A prayer that you may get the support you need at this awful time and that they are comfortable not in any pain.

I have just (just!) Booked 9 nights in a flash hotel in tenerife in May. Not my kind of usual holiday. Loads of kids activities. Looking forward to lounging by the adults rooftop infinity pool with a cocktail and taking the kids to Siam waterpark.

Other holidays I fancy are:

A cottage in Dorset with a shared swimming pool in August.

Belfast -probably beginning of summer. Cheap flight, car hire, see the titanic museum then drive up the coast to the giants causeway stopping at the other tourist spots en route. Going to stay in a barn conversion with a hot tub. Need to book this.

I was toying with the idea of 8 days over Easter or October half term to go to New York and Washington.

The other idea kicking around is Romania with my Romanian friend in October. I'd like to see the Wednesday filming sets but I don't think this is near her family.

Considering a cheap break at Easter instead of NYC. Fly to Milan, hire a car, stay in a mobile home next to gardaland for one or two nights to "do" the park properly.

Then head up to Riva del garda to a flash hotel for 4 nights to soak up the gorgeous scenery and eat yummy food. Oh I think I want to do this the most but it seems really decadent to go to Italy for just 6 days. No worse than America for 8 days.

itsnotmeitsu · 19/01/2023 22:28

Ten days in Fuerteventura at the end of February. Not our usual hotel as it just wasn't the same last time we went, but so looking forward to being in Corralejo again.

itsnotmeitsu · 19/01/2023 22:34

OP, just to add, hope you do get to take some time for yourselves, however it happens. I hope it's helping that your mum is able to be in a hospice.

89redballoons · 19/01/2023 22:34

4 nights at Centre Parcs in April with two families we are friends with. There will be 6 adults and 5 kids aged 1-4... wish me luck.

Nothing else booked but expect we'll do a long weekend or two in the UK over the summer and, because of the way my work falls, 2 weeks in either September or November. This is the last academic year my eldest won't be in school so toying with doing a foreign holiday to take advantage of off-peak prices - maybe Canaries.

I have a family wedding in Corfu in May 2024 as well, and I think we're going to make a week or two of that.

Menopausecankissmyass · 19/01/2023 22:36

Sorry to hear about your mum OP

We are off to St Ives for a week in the Easter Holidays. Oslo and Bergen for summer holiday, and France for October half term xx

IWasFunBeforeMum · 19/01/2023 22:36

Weekend in Haven in Wales and 2 weeks summer hol in Mijas. Can't wait for both!

Clarinet1 · 19/01/2023 22:47

So sorry to hear about your Mum, OP. Mine died seven years ago and had been quite ill for a couple of years. She had two spells in a hospice.
Breaks-wise I’m very excited because I have managed to arrange holiday dialysis so that I can go on my beloved music summer school in Devon for a week in August. Can’t wait!

user467892 · 19/01/2023 22:59

June - Sardinia, Italy
July/August - 3 weeks in Varna, Bulgaria (partners family is from there)
September - Lake Como, Italy
Then for January 2024 we have a 3 week holiday partially booked; Roadtrip around Florida including Disneyworld and then a cruise around the Bahamas/Jamaica Smile

Bs0u416d · 19/01/2023 23:00

Spain with my family end of Feb weather is usually pleasant enough and it's lovely to spend some relaxing family time will not pressure to do very much. Me and DP then off to New York in March. Hallf term in Tenerife with his family in May for some sun and some some fun times with out older niece then Greece for a week in June just the two of us again. Unsure about the following 6 months.

HoratioTriting · 19/01/2023 23:10

Sorry about your mother 💐
We are planning a city break probably Spanish coast plus some time in Romania, if funds allow then possibly a Greek island later in the year.

Serenity45 · 19/01/2023 23:12

I'm sorry about your mum OP
We have a week in Ireland visiting family next month. I have a weekend in London with my sisters in March. Couple of long weekends away in our campervan April/May (Devon and South Wales).

3 weeks driving on US West coast in June , including 6 of the national parks we are excited about this one as definitely a 'big' trip. Camping with friends for a few days over summer not booked that yet. We also get away at least every other weekend in the van April to October but book these ad hoc (go after work Friday back Sunday afternoon to save annual leave). Week in Berlin in November and week in a cottage in Wales over Christmas.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 19/01/2023 23:22

@ZenNudist

Wow Thanks, I have only been to the House and Gardens twice and have never had the opportunity to really spend time
