Pringles in the packed lunch

Pennecrayon · 18/01/2023 11:02

This feels like an odd question but I wanted to ask here in case I am missing something. We have a few tubes of Pringles left over from Christmas and I've been putting a few in a Tupperware for DS's packed lunch. He's 7.

Last night, I got a WhatsApp from a parent who I don't know very well to ask me if I would stop putting Pringles in DS's packed lunch because it's making her son jealous. I was a bit taken aback and I didn't respond.

I think I'm entitled to put whatever I want in my DS's lunchbox (within the rules) and that's what I want to tell her. We're new to the school this year though so I don't want to upset anyone and cause dramas.

AIBU?

Who cares?

I ignore lunchbox policies. And only once had to "storm in" and tell them to never police my child's box again after they confiscated a flapjack.

Mine once had a tiny packet of mini cheddars taken off him and left without a snack aged 6 as it was ‘against school snack policy)

UsernameOfMine · 18/01/2023 16:25

Haha is he a PFB that the world.must revolve around. I'm so glad we're the final year of primary school, the other school mums can be very ott on trivial things.

For what it's worth...my DC are going with a (small) handful of Xmas chocolates in their lunch boxes (though I am been thoughtful and taking out any nutty ones to avoid allergies...good deed and all that!!)

Keep adding whatever you want to YOUR child's lunch box. It's not your job to make sure every other child in the class is happy with their lunches.

YABU because this thread had made me go and buy 2 tubs of Pringles. Yum.

60smusic · 18/01/2023 16:27

Just reply on the GROUP chat

"Ha ha 'Mary' , you're hilarious about me not putting pringles in 'Johnny's' lunch box because your kid gets jealous , love your sense of humor, I think we're going to get on great",

Leave it overnight, enough time for everyone to see, then reply back on the group chat "Whoops, so sorry 'Mary' didn't realise I replied to your private message to me on the group chat".

YES everyone will know what you're doing, but who gives a fuck 🤷

CanINapNow · 18/01/2023 16:28

does anyone else remember about 20 years ago Pringles gave away little lunchbox Pringle tubs? They were shaped like Pringles and held about 12 crisps. I had a pink glittery one in my lunchbox and thought I was the bee’s knees. OP, perhaps you could source one on eBay for your DC and really drive this other kid mad 😂

Absolutely bonkers!!

If schools want to dictate snacks, then they must provide them!

Plot Twist: OP actually works for Pringles 🤣

CanINapNow · 18/01/2023 16:30

also for what it’s worth I’d reply “I’m sorry to hear your DC was upset but I’m afraid it is not reasonable/feasible for me to plan my DC’s lunches based on what may or may not make other students jealous.” Then just leave it at that. People are bonkers.

wast542 · 18/01/2023 16:33

Wtf. It's allowed in your school policy. Totally ignore her. Or tell her no you will decide what your kid gets for lunch not her

SpringIntoChaos · 18/01/2023 16:33

TruffleShuffles · 18/01/2023 11:21

My child would never go to school without Pringles again.

Absolutely this 😍🤣

Pringle envy is real though...I want some now 🤣

(Also...tell her to fuck off! Who made her Queen of the Lunchbox Police? 🤦‍♀️)

FloatOn · 18/01/2023 16:36

Please have a pringle themed birthday party for your DS.

You could send out invites with the pringle guy all over them, then do pringle crafts (nearly sure you can make ball shooters with the tins and a balloon), then a pringle banquet.

Then a wee plastic pringle container as the party bag!

VinoDino · 18/01/2023 16:37

I had own brand ready salted crisps, a boring sandwich on wholemeal bread and a carton of juice. My school pal always had a capri-sun, a bag of cartoonies and.. an Italian roll. I was green with envy (and still think about it now clearly 😂). Apart from that I think I turned out ok!

I'd reply 'lol' and leave her feeling like a tit.

ClockworkChair · 18/01/2023 16:40

I think we need to look at this from the jealous child's perspective. I had milky bar envy at school because a classmates mum was a dinner lady and she used to slip her daughter a milky bar at lunchtime. My god, I wanted those milky bars. Now I'm going to have to go out and get some milky bars. You don't get over that.

Roundaboot · 18/01/2023 16:41

Nanny0gg · 18/01/2023 15:57

Well... you've never forgotten!!

😂

Haha! Good point, maybe I do hold a grudge!

MysteryBelle · 18/01/2023 16:42

It’s hard for me to believe that you had Pringles left over from Christmas. Your household must have the discipline of steel rods.

I would send her the gif of Princess Catherine giving side eye & incredulous smile at a woman who suddenly started bossing everybody around as she and other ladies were gift wrapping presents “Hurry up now!!!” 😂

MysteryBelle · 18/01/2023 16:43

Oh and I’d include Pringles in ds’s lunch every day going forward.

MensisIanuarius · 18/01/2023 16:44

This actually reminds me of the beginning of lockdown. We had to send in packed lunches. I saved a bit if whatever we were having for dinner, and sent it in my own flask type container I use for work. My primary school DC went in with curry and rice, lasagna, meatballs and then I git disgruntled messages from other parents saying their DC were coming home saying their packed lunches were crap and they wanted one like ours, and where did I buy my flask?

Cartoonies! Gosh I miss those

StaunchMomma · 18/01/2023 16:46

'I'm sorry your son feels this way but, as I'm sure you understand, in this current climate I am loathe to let the Christmas leftovers go to waste, and so I will be using them up in all of the family's lunchboxes for the foreseen. Thanks.'

(a) I'm now really terrified she's on MN.
(b) I'm going to reply 'now we've popped, we can't stop'. Too good.

Genius!! Bet she won't reply to that

Sceptre86 · 18/01/2023 16:54

I'd send a message back along the lines of since they are allowed you will keep sending them in as your son like them. Maybe she should do the same. My dd1 came home once and said her friend had chocolate animal biscuits as her snack, I asked her if she wanted them so I bought her some. You can pick up pringles from b&m and they are almost always on offer so I doubt it is a cost thing. Maybe she's giving a healthier lunchbox offering (note I have no issues with pringles in a lunchbox they don't last long enough in this house) and her child would just prefer pringles!

Pixie2015 · 18/01/2023 16:55

I was always jealous of what other had - any imagine others were jealous of my packlunch especially as I had white bread ketchup sandwiches with margarine - thankfully now have put myself off them unless stuffed with chips - if you child eating them and happy keep sending x

nikkjay · 18/01/2023 16:55

Omg, Pringles are u for real... get a real problem. I can give u a problem if u are that hard up. First world bullshit.. go spend.money on a different kind of chip if u are that concerned
