Pringles in the packed lunch

This feels like an odd question but I wanted to ask here in case I am missing something. We have a few tubes of Pringles left over from Christmas and I've been putting a few in a Tupperware for DS's packed lunch. He's 7.

Last night, I got a WhatsApp from a parent who I don't know very well to ask me if I would stop putting Pringles in DS's packed lunch because it's making her son jealous. I was a bit taken aback and I didn't respond.

I think I'm entitled to put whatever I want in my DS's lunchbox (within the rules) and that's what I want to tell her. We're new to the school this year though so I don't want to upset anyone and cause dramas.

this is so fucking rediculous. what is wrong with some people.
please please do not stop giving your son lovely foods.
maybe reply " oh no.how utterly awful for timothy.how ghastly of me to not think. but its ok ive added some for your son too for tomorrow." and add in a big bar of dairy milk too.

does anyone else remember about 20 years ago Pringles gave away little lunchbox Pringle tubs? They were shaped like Pringles and held about 12 crisps. I had a pink glittery one in my lunchbox and thought I was the bee’s knees. OP, perhaps you could source one on eBay for your DC and really drive this other kid mad 😂

yes yes yes. i had the red one. they were fab!

melj1213 · 18/01/2023 16:59

"I'm sorry your child feels jealous of Johnny's lunch but I will continue to send my child to school with whatever lunch items I choose to. Unless you're offering to pay for Johnny's lunches you don't get to tell me what to put in them."

I had own brand ready salted crisps, a boring sandwich on wholemeal bread and a carton of juice. My school pal always had a capri-sun, a bag of cartoonies and.. an Italian roll. I was green with envy (and still think about it now clearly 😂). Apart from that I think I turned out ok!

I'd reply 'lol' and leave her feeling like a tit.

ha this was often me. had a proper sandwhich when my friends had the other bits or fake ham.and then they went home to pizza and i went home to a "proper meal" haha. how times change.

hotdiggetydog · 18/01/2023 17:03

Just react to her message with the crying laughing emoji and leave it at that.

FashionDoggy · 18/01/2023 17:07

I hope she hasn't seen the new tik tok videos that have gone viral - they don't exist but I hope little Johnny doesn't get jealous he can't have them

Please don't pander to this. Just tell the mum nicely that they're allowed so you'll be continuing to put them in. It's up to her what she does with that info. No drama necessary

Justalittlebitduckling · 18/01/2023 17:08

I can’t stop thinking about this! There is so much inequality in life. There will be kids at the school on free school meals. There will be kids who live in massive houses and whose parents drive flashy cars. This Mum needs to teach her kid to be grateful for what you have, not affirm his jealousy by trying to police another mum! I would just ignore her message honestly, or reply: are you serious?!

Hahaha go for option B:

(b) I'm going to reply 'now we've popped, we can't stop'.

I'd have to buy a pair of these, wear them to school and flick your hair back as you walk past her in the playground ....

Or, when it's your DS's birthday, have a Pringle themed party for his classmates.

I'd get a cake like this ...

EmilyGilmoresSass · 18/01/2023 17:22

I'd probably leave the WhatsApp and if anyone asked me why I'd say I couldn't stand her and be sure to say you've been reprimanded for giving your own child Pringles. I mean, she clearly rubs off on her child if they come home reporting who gets what in their lunch. I'm picturing one of these mums who cuts sandwiches and fruit into shapes and does themed lunches, despite the fact it wastes half the food. That whole trend astounds me to be honest. What a waste of time.

I left my class WhatsApp when I was in my local college because one person gave me the rage and it was a matter of time before I bit back though 🤣

kateandme · 18/01/2023 17:47

or you could make her feel really bad. and say your "reALLY sorry. its just you cant afford to buy any new food in at the moment. and these pringles are whats left from Christmas.😔"

duc748 · 18/01/2023 17:52

Similar mentality going on here.

Bringing cakes to work is akin to passive smoking, apparently. Who knew? 🙄

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 18/01/2023 17:53

Pringles are £££ perhaps she can't afford and child is pesterring her. I'd save them for a home treat tbh

Glittersparkle76 · 18/01/2023 17:53

Pennecrayon · 18/01/2023 13:36

(a) I'm now really terrified she's on MN.
(b) I'm going to reply 'now we've popped, we can't stop'. Too good.

B is the perfect response!
🤣😂

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 18/01/2023 18:00

What gall she has. I'd buy a few extra tubes to make sure he has Pringles for weeks to come.

It's up to her to manage her child's diet, behaviour and expectations. Not up to you.

Josette77 · 18/01/2023 18:05

You are a freaking Queen OP.💋
