To not understand why there is so much backlash against kids movies with gay characters these days?

It's all over the place these days, people "outraged", but 10 years ago there were kids movies with gay characters and you'd hear barely a peep.

Watched Happy Feet over Christmas and I'd forgotten the whole B plot was two gay shrimp having a domestic because it wasn't a big deal. Saw Strange World too but all I kept hearing about it was from homophobes throwing tantrums it seems like.

Not heard any outrage. We must move in different circles.

WhatLikeItsHard · 31/12/2022 21:38

Same as PP. Apart from relatives who are 75 years old plus.

underneaththeash · 31/12/2022 21:39

Me neither…

RoseslnTheHospital · 31/12/2022 21:39

Where are you seeing this outrage? I've not seen anything about this, other than non-homophobic people rightly objecting to films being cut or edited for the Chinese market because of same sex relationships.

MarshaMelrose · 31/12/2022 21:40

Heard nothing myself. But then I dont do FB and it's just not even given a thought amongst my friends.

Hoardasurass · 31/12/2022 21:42

I suspect that you will find that people are objecting to the promotion of queer theory rather than seeing homosexual relationships being depicted

Fathercrossmas · 31/12/2022 21:42

You must have searched something about outrage to make your newsfeed full of outraged clickbait articles

BabyOnBoard90 · 31/12/2022 21:44

People don't want their kids indoctrinated

DuplicateUserName · 31/12/2022 21:44

Never remember seeing any outrage about it?

This is the kind of stuff I've seen.
Was it China who banned the Lightyear film?

DolphinWars · 31/12/2022 21:46

ExH had a problem with the gay relationship in Strange World - no idea how as it had less than a minute screen time.

I have a problem with gender stuff being snuck into children’s tv, but gay relationships aren’t on my radar at all.

I was thinking exactly the same!

ChristineCagney11 · 31/12/2022 21:52

I mean if you go to the Daily Mail online comments I'm sure you'll find "Outrage" but that's not a new thing.
Those feckers are always outraged.
As are their journos always creeping around on here.

ResisterRex · 31/12/2022 21:53

Not seen what you describe OP. Do you live in the UK or elsewhere?

How exactly do you "indoctrinate" someone into being gay...?

I'm pretty sure my teenager isn't gay because she watched gay penguins as a toddler.

PennyRa · 31/12/2022 21:54

Yes, indoctrinated is the buzz word they seem to love these days. Which is obviously absurd

Who is they? Where are you seeing this outrage?

pointythings · 31/12/2022 21:57

It's mainly online and it mainly comes from certain parts of the world, i.e. conservative bits of the US. This is where depicting gay relationships as just another thing that happens in life instead of as A Big Deal = indoctrination. It's bizarre and I'm glad there's not so much of it in this part of the world.

You can't make someone gay, or not gay. People are as they are.

Iam4eels · 31/12/2022 21:57

YANBU, homophobia may not be as blatant as it used to be but it is still alive and well. I have seen comments online and heard them spoken in RL about how these things don't need "shoving down our throats", there are still a lot of people out there who define "normal" as a man, a woman, and 2.4 children, and plenty of people who think that depicting same-sex couples is pandering to the "woke" crowd. You don't need to look too far to find these attitudes either, on this thread alone there has already been a comment about indoctrination.

Mine is gay because I bought him a toy kitchen l, a dolly, and a pram when he was 3. FIL warned me at the time that it would turn him 'funny' and that he needed boy toys. I didn't listen and - BAM! - here we are many years later, camp as a row of tents.

As most gay people watched pretty much 100% stuff about heterosexual people growing up that really old argument doesn't hold up.
Or do you think gay people didn't exist before tv?

I think it's really important for kids to see gay relationships.

I'm sure one of my older relatives who gets outraged about stuff like this is actually gay themselves. But they are so indoctrinated to think being gay is wrong and disgusting that they will never admit it to themselves or anyone else. Really sad.

Who is outraged though? I never see anything about this.
